Suggestion: Overhaul character in starterzone
By starter zone, you mean the tutorial? (Starter zone usually refers to the level 1-15 areas).

ah, yes I mean the tutorial (which doesn’t teach you anything. It’s just where you start)
Character height always seems to give me trouble. The slider doesn’t give me a decent perspective, so my human females end up being just a little too tall. Then when I’m standing next to a male NPC, I look like Amazon Woman.

It teaches you how to stand in one spot and autoattack the boss. That’s good training for when you do the meta event bosses.
ANet may give it to you.

Heh. But yeah. I have nothing against your idea, but I can see that Anet might think it was too much effort for a fairly minor convenience.

I thought so, too at the beginning. After entering everything into the character-creation-screen for the 5th time though I kinda longed for this feature.
yea.. maybe they can make a plastic surgery ala character creation store literally in the game, where you make use of the existing editor options but when done, you get to try out the looks in game , then when you are satisfied you can confirm and come out of the store with your new look
The have total make-over kits already, so essentially they would just need to add an NPC that would ask if you wanted to change anything about your character before you leave the tutorial. If you select yes, it opens up a free total make-over kit (minus the exclusive hairstyles/colors).
This would be easy to implement I feel. If they really wanted to.
I like the idea. It can’t be abused as far as I can see.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I like the idea. Although, I now end up making many of my characters look a certain way. I’ve found “my look”, but back when I started playing, I had the same issue. I’d create a character, enter game, and delete within a few minutes only to remake something almost identical with a slight change. I think will help newer players save time, and those veterans trying new races they haven’t explored before. Seems simple enough as well.
I APPROVE!
I’d appreciate a feature like this (or give character creation a “map select” option so you can preview what a character looks like out in the world). The many hues of the sylvari skin all look very different in the actual game compared with character creation
The problem with this is that the starter instance doesn’t necessarily give you any better idea than the character creation tool. It’s been a while since I’ve created a new one, but I remember at least the Sylvari starting instance having very saturated light. I’d make a character, get it into game to see how it changed, but then I’d run it through the instance and get a very different look once out in the world.
I wish the character creation preview just had lighting and settings a bit closer to what neutral light looks like in game.

This could be very useful. Maybe a half dozen options simulating lighting in various places around the world.
I would like it to be handled like it was handled in Fallout: New Vegas. There, when you leave the tutorial, the game asks you if you are happy with your character or would like to change something.
Tutorial gives you a decent amount of time to examine your character and decide what you like and don’t like when you see it in the game world (as opposed to the creation screen), and the one-time free makeover would be very handy and not exploitable.
They could just make it easier for you to see how the character would actually look in game. But I like Xdmatt’s suggestion even better: give us an option to change the look again before leaving the ‘tutorial’.
This sounds great to me. Lighting can still be a problem in the tutorial for some races as mentioned above, but you’ll spot other problems like not liking your asura’s ear shape once you see it flopping around, or hair physics/clipping, or skin tone blending too much with the hair. GW2 does a superb job of having the in-game look match what you did in creation, though inevitably some nuances of color and shading are lost, but creation offers so much detail that losing just a bit of it can change the “feel” of a character once in the world.
And height, oh yes height. Creation gives you no clue at all how you’ll compare to others around you.
Definitely +1’d.
I hated my ele’s face so much, but I didn’t bother remaking her because I didn’t play her and I thought “ehh, I’ll do it later”. Now she’s almost 3 I had to get a total makeover kit. It doesn’t show you what cutscenes will look like with your character either.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
It’s a tradition I started practicing every time I made a character in an Elder Scrolls game, using console commands.
Fortunately GW2 has been pretty good about my characters in the open world looking more similar to their character-creation screen than I’ve seen in other games. I still support the idea.
