Weapon smithing’s refinement category is unnecessarily cluttered with dowels (which aren’t even “refinements”, they’re crafting crafting components), while inscriptions use the dowel and fine crafting component – so you have two recipes, each only requiring two components, to create one item when you can just have one recipe with three components (or four for exotic inscriptions) instead.
Existing blank dowels can be turned into clickable items that produce their base components, so nobody loses out on anything, and weapon crafting experience can be bumped up slightly to compensate for the loss of dowels as crafting exp fodder.
Removing blank dowels streamlines weapon crafting slightly, reduces some clutter in the menu, and brings it more in line with armor crafting which doesn’t require you to craft blank insignias. Plus you can also reuse the blank dowel art for other items.
