I had an interesting idea to increase the fun level of world bosses. Having the world bosses controlled by a single player much like Costume Brawl expect on a larger scale. A player or GM could control the world boss in an attempt to kill as many heroes as possible (since we know they will be defeated in the end) and make the reward based on the number of people killed. The player would gain the skills of the boss and able to use them and move in a limited manner. This would make world bosses like Shatterer more interesting rather than standing to the side of him. The boss would also have 2 dodges that regenerate like players (as it is player controlled).

Testing for how many people are killed for the reward would need to be done to find a safe average to set the reward scaling on. The rewards would be based out of the chest of the boss since the person being boss would not have access to the chest. There could also be leaderboards and achievements based on kills as the boss.

AFK while being the boss would be punished severely (like not being allowed to play as the boss for a prolonged period of time).

I think its a good idea but constructive criticism or ideas only please.

The major problem I can think of is how to determine who can play the world boss that run.

This is an example of how things can go wrong with this idea.

That would be considered an AFK kill meaning they would get punished for it.

Also Cobalt is a weapon not a world boss

This may be a cool idea for a WvW Boss. Besides that…it wouldn’t work out.

I was thinking for Shatterer, Claw of Jormag and others as they need something to make them more challenging and fun rather than stand on point B and attack. A player controlling would be better than currently.

Upgrading AI takes a lot of work and would put more load on the servers.

Another possible idea is to have unique rewards tied to reward tiers for killing people. Meaning the person who is controlling the world boss would want to kill as many people as possible to get said unique reward.

Such as if playing Shatterer and you manage to kill lets say 100 people (random number not sure how many people for this type of reward) a unique weapon skin: Weapon made out of Shatterer crystals.

Here’s another problem. Players aren’t created equal. How would you determine what player is the boss? What if no one wants to do it? How would they learn HOW to play the boss? Would you even WANT someone who knows how?

You’d just add another layer of complaints, really. “[x] server got world first [y]!!!”
“Yeah, only because you had a scrub playing the boss. How much did you pay him?”

Player controlled world bosses would only bring out the worst in the player base, because:

1) Players as a general rule will seek the path of least resistance.
2) Players will exploit the living hell out of anything whenever possible.

You would need an Arena.net representative at every boss, on every world, every time it spawns, just to make sure everything is on the up and up. That’s simply not feasible.
