[Suggestion] Profession Changing
It’s not that you “have” to level alts, it’s that you “get” to.
According to ANet, leveling alts is fun because dynamic events are constantly evolving and changing the world.
The devs have stated as clearly as possible that secondary professions will never be part of this game.
It simply makes it too hard to balance classes/skills.

I never suggested having secondary professions. I was just noting the ease of swapping in Guild Wars 1. Why would it be any more difficult to code something like that so we can change our profession in Guild Wars 2? I don’t see how you could confuse my post grandmafunk.
Having fun in leveling alts is subjective. Some people like to level alts while others don’t.
I was confused by your post because the opening sentence establishes secondary professions as the context.
As for your actual question: it has nothing to do with “difficulty to code”, it’s a design decision. Anet wants characters and their builds to be more tightly bound, to give them a sense of permanence, a sense of story.
As opposed to characters just being a place holder for swappable class/build templates
