[Suggestion] Race Transformation Tonics
I don’t think tonics would be a good fit for this. If you want to change your look, it would be annoying to have to constantly using a tonic, and that’s before you get to questions of how you would control what your character looks like once you’ve transformed. (Is it random? Does it use your character creation options as a key to assign corresponding features?)
There’s obviously some amount of tech for combat tonics (Infinite Watchknight Tonic,) but I’m not so sure about this idea.
What about faces? What about hairstyles? What about body shapes? What about racial armours?

I would say there could be a endless version of each tonic. And I would say the looks would probably be randomized, or maybe just the default look for each race. Depending on whats easier I guess.
Obviously the tonic isn’t going to be for someone that wants a certain hair style. It would be just to change their race. Maybe someone doesn’t want to play as a huge looking Charr but wants an Asura instead.

Yeah, I figured such tonics would have endless forms. I meant it would be a nuisance to have to reuse them whenever you enter/exit zones. (I collect Endless tonics, and they’re a bit of a hassle to travel with.)
I wouldn’t mind seeing more combat tonics. Obviously, there are a lot of tonics that just wouldn’t work for that, but there’s room for some interesting player-shaped tonics that would work in combat. (For example, a Nightmare Court Tonic, Tonic of Whispers, Inquest Tonic, etc.)
It always seemed strange that the Watchknight tonic was a highly-restricted one-off.

Doesn’t mean there can’t be a tonic with a longer duration !

This is the only tonic that will not change your skills, but it changes your race. I am suggesting something like this.
I do enjoy my Infinite Watchknight Tonic, and wish the Krait one would be the same, I’m missing the point on why the limited duration time and cd though. All for longer tonics, no cd, combat ready.
I just hope Anet eventually adds race change to the gem store, kind of a common service in this genre, and I know of a few players that have told me they would come back if they could race change their Asura.

Guild Wars 1 had infinite use tonics that changed you into an NPC or mob. They lasted an hour, had no cooldown and most were useable in combat. They had at least one Charr (Pyre Fierceshot), centaur (Zhed), the Mad King, Golems, a couple of Asura and various human npcs. As well as a few others (Margonite?) that iirc weren’t combat useable.
A friend and I, towards the end of our time there would use identical tonics and we would play as two Jora’s or two Ogden’s, for example. It was a fun change of pace that this game currently doesn’t allow.

Could such a tonic even turn you into a Quaggan or can it only turn you into one of the currently playable races?

I would think that any combat useable tonic would need to be something that can do combat animations. The tonic would need to be able to both equip your weapons and do things like dodge or swim. The dodge part might rule out something like a Centaur tonic. As long as a Quaggan can equip weapons and do the animations I would assume a Quaggan tonic could be combat useable,

Do animations of Quaggans wielding greatswords or warhorns or what have you (as well as perhaps wearing leather armor or plate mail armor) already exist or would those have to be newly created?
Quaggans have animations where they hold weapons and do attacks, both on land and water. It shouldn’t be any trouble replacing one weapon with another or one animation with another. As to armor, they won’t be wearing your armor just like the Watchknight tonic transformation doesn’t wear your armor.
If anyone one form is unsuitable for combat then obviously it wouldn’t be made. The set of Guild Wars 1 transformation tonics had some that weren’t combat useable because of animation problems.

Thank you for the info.
That’s good news about the Quaggan weapon-wielding and while it’s understandable why there’d be no animation of Quaggan wearing armor, it still would’ve been nice seeing one in full Quaggan-shaped leather or plate mail.
No cd, long duration (1h+), combat ready Centaur tonic, and my Ranger will have a hard time staying a Norn.
These tonics are the closest I can get to the Warden Druid archetype.
