I’m I the only one that has a problem with the Ranger not being the best “ranged” class in game?

The Guardian has better ranged burst.

The Necro has better ranged continuous dps.

Elementalist has better ranged Aoe.

What does a “Ranger” have that is superior in terms of “ranged” Attacks? None.

All they got was better heal as a druid? This has got to be the stupidest addition to a “Ranger.” Anet WTH are you doing?

Druid is great class.

I sort of agree that DH has too much ranged damage (and DH traps are buggy and stupid and broken), this should be nerfed.

If you want to do more damage at range, play one of those other classes. Problem solved.

It’s better to figure out the playstyle you want to use, then pick the class that fits that playstyle best, than it is to pick a class, then figure out your playstyle, and then get irritated when it doesn’t work how you want it to.

Druid is already very powerful and it can be paired with bow.

I play all classes. Just saying the ranger, or druid now, needs some damage buff because it just pales in comparison in terms of ranged dps.

Ranger longbow already got buffs it didn’t deserve with projectile speed trait becoming baseline and the rapid fire buff. So no more power creep please.

You know, “Ranger” isn’t named after the distance at which they attack their enemies.. If it was Marksman / Archer / Longbowman or something like that then yeah.

Hello
Let me start with saying that i fully understand your sentiment, but sadly buffing\nerfing to enhance one possible playstyle has, so far, only worsened the overall balance Situation. You see the rangers damage is not only his weapon damage, in case of the ranger you have to take possible pet damage values into consideraton as well. Now the damage can be low if you sport the cute little brown bear but trust me, there are pets that hit like trucks. Raven is an example for this, at least i think it’s DPS is quite high, the trade off is that it is quite the sqishy little bugger. If you visited the pvp or ranger forums lately you will find that the bristleback is also something that increases the salt lvls of your opponents. It has some nice spike potential.
I would suggest that you, while you play ranger you consider yourself and your pet bodyparts. You are the arm that delivers the blow, the pet is either a fist or a floppy open hand. If you want to hit hard, use the fist, use the pet. You are a ranger not a sniper/archer every balancing will also involve your pets possible damage. I understand that is not what many people want, in gw1 it was possible to go without your personal little dogmeat but as of now ranger and druid are to quite a huge degree bound to their pets. But who knows, maybe we will see a pet less bow man as a future specialization.
One last word regarding buffing and nerfing. Please, before demanding changes: balancing has to take into consideraton 3 game modes and the relation to all classes. Simply demanding one buff or nerf may kill another class or put your own class into the spotlight for slander and hate from the remaing community. Just visit the ele, Mesmer, revenant or thief and pvp forums. You will unterstand what i mean.
I hope i could help,
have a good one

As everyone else has said, “Ranger” is not derivative of “ranged attack”. Rangers are people that patrol a “range” – a large area. Rangers are not, by definition, ranged specialists. As a Druid main, I can say unequivocally that we don’t need damage buffs – we more than make up for our lack in maximum damage with group support and “effective” DPS via group buffs. And solo, we’re so survivable that the lack in damage doesn’t matter.

The ranger is highly mobile and adaptable to anything. If you’re standing still on a ranger you’re doing it wrong. I take my Dragonhunter into a fight and die in seconds in some cases, where as I can take my ranger and not only kill the mob easier but take out his ads too usually without taking half the damage I do on that dragonhunter. Burst damage and buffed damage mean nothing if you’re dead in seconds.
I’ve solo’d verdint brink nightfall events with my ranger/druid I wouldn’t even think of trying it with dragonhunter, I die just trying to make my way around the HoT zones when I play dragonhunter through. I can hunt champions while solo on the ranger.

I think their pets should be able to dodge and the player could control the dodge somehow.

I think their pets should be able to dodge and the player could control the dodge somehow.

With the pets taking much less damage now from indirect aoe (ie not targeted directly at pet) they don’t need to dodge. Before they where dead more often than alive, now my pet dies rarely if at all.

I don’t get your reason why rangers should be the best ranged class? It makes no sense what so ever. Ranger and ranged are not meant to be a equal word. All classes have their thing that they are good at so does rangers. Druids are in a great spot, and rangers do also have good damage on their long bow and their great sword is still great to use.
As for condibuilds they are not doing bad there either. And the new pets are also a improvement.

There are other classes more broken at the moment, rangers should not be on the top for more buffs or nerfs.
