Q:
I move to bring into effect a ranking system, where you start out as lowest rank and work your way up. Perhaps someway related to Seraph?
This idea is in opposition of the already developing Commander system, where you spend a ton of gold and get a cool “Dorito” over your head (I call it dorito because it is already a popular in-game term for the icon) And I understand the practical application in WvW, its uses are little in PvE, other than prestige. Which brings me to my second gripe about the Commander system: Quite frankly its becoming annoying (ex. playing in Harathi Hinterlands last night there were over 30 Commander’s pings on the map AND I can imagine this will slowly roll out of control.
My pros to developing a “ranking system” are as follows:
1) This will grant a bit more substance to “End Game” play, as players could possibly have the option to spend Exp on leveling up their rank, as well as add a variety of events, quests, and missions.
2) Rewards for gaining rank could be monetary as well as prestige, and material (weapons/gear skins) Other possible rewards include new PvE only skills and abilities (similar to those first introduced in Guild Wars: EOTN expansion. )
3) In PvE the display of rank would appear above the players head, similar to the commander and once reaching a certain level, a ping of the rank symbol will appear on the map. This way there is some variety added (not everyone is sporting the same dorito.)
These are just a few of my thoughts, and please feel free to add or oppose. Please share your opinions.
EDIT:
Let me elaborate a little more, rather than just having the commander icon, each rank will have its own icon, as in you may start at a low rank such as Lieutenant and work your way through the ranks to General. (just an example)

Already exists. How would you expand on these two systems.

There is already a ranking system in WvW and I’m pretty sure they will use that system for commanders when the time comes.
This does not already exist. Thanks for your links but they have no relation at all to my post, as my suggestion refers to PvE only. Please re-read. How I would expand has been briefly summarized above.

Commander tags do have uses in PvE for the same reasons people use them in WvW.

Make pvp www ranks visible and then we will see who is pve cmd and who is gold rank cmd .

So if I understand correctly you want to solve the problem of. “How to I tell who is a good and who is a bad commander correct?” You want to add a ranking system to the commander system?
Make pvp www ranks visible and then we will see who is pve cmd and who is gold rank cmd .
Or who spends a lot of time in EotM.

^ WvW ranks mean nothing nowadays.
I suggested something like this months back.
At this point, there’s no requisite in place for obtaining a commander tag, only gold. And last I saw, gold is no proof of ability to lead, in whatever setting (PvE, WvW).
I’ve seen more than my fair share of ‘rich idiots’ trolling zergs into near-immediate deaths in WvW.
As for PvE, it’s nothing more than a place marker for where you are on the map – something we used to get for free on the minimap/compass on the original Guild Wars.
I do see merit in the suggestion by the OP, as it takes two established foundations in the game (WvW rank and the commander tag) and melds them into one. I believe the commander’s proof of ability to lead and command should merit the tag, not the size of his wallet.
The size of your wallet is all that matters in this game.
