Long story short:

Make all players Megaserver and have guilds choose which WvW server they are fighting for!

The Guild Registrar could control this for your guild. As guilds begin to choose which server they are fighting for, the price to fight for said servers change. Much like with server switching, whereby switching to a different server costs a different amount depending on the current population of that server.

So just for the sake of argument:
I want to fight for Ring of Fire Server, but so does the majority and as such the price to link my guild to that server would cost… say 1,000,000 influence + 250 merits.
However if I wanted to join the unpopular “Zojja Bloggs Server” (made that one up so’s not to offend anyone) it would only cost a fraction of the RoF server.

Once bound to a server, your guild will never be able to change, WHICH is no different to how it is now unless you pay to switch servers.

So you can always be a part of another guild that is “dedicated” to another server, however you will be placed into a “cooldown” period whereby you cannot participate in WvW for 24-hours once you switch representation to a rival guild, which should hopefully prevent the trollers from sabotage.

THIS PUTS THE CONTROL OF TROLLERS IN OUR HANDS.

If someone in your guild is merely out to sabotage WvW for your server, you have the ability to kick them from the guild, thus removing them from your side… as an automated result, they will basically just be kicked out of WvW and placed back into LA.

Now let’s focus on the players who don’t want to join a guild and prefer to play WvW without a guild! Well you go about it in the same way you would as a guild apart from the cost is minuscule in comparison to dedicating an entire guild. But will cost Gold. From them on your account will be bound to the server you have chosen and will thereafter limit you to joining a the same dedicated server as you have chosen for yourself! Naturally as a unguilded person you have the advantage of changing your dedication at any time (at an additional cost) to test out which Server suits you best.

Of course the whole “AFK” issue within WvW will always be a problem that we cannot change, that is merely a mechanic that ANet must do for us. But either way, I think the need for individual servers has become redundant outside of WvW since the Megaserver release. So i believe it’s time to truly unite the world and do away with all the complicated mechanics that ANet are fiddling with to get same server players int he same instance… Just limit it to Guild mates and leave the rest to the players!

How much gold for an unguilded person? This means players without that much gold wouldn’t be able to access WvW? A paywall in game isn’t a good idea imo.

How are people in game supposed to find a guild for the server it wants to play for? Guilds can advertise, sure but they don’t advertise all the time. People will have to pay close attention to chat in hopes that a guild for the server they want is advertising

This means people will have to chose guilds not for the personality of the guildies and guild but the WvW affiliation.

How about new guilds? The one that don’t have the badges and influence? How are they to get and retain people who want to do WvW if they can’t access WvW?

Valid points all round:

I’d say, that the first choice of server is free and then switching would cost, but should be in the region of mere silver. (for single players).

People joining guilds within the server they are looking for would be immensely simple as they need only step into their borderlands and shout in map chat “Looking For Guild” as the guilds dedicated to that server would be in there!

Personality vs. Affiliation – In my experience all guilds have good and bad people in them. To be honest I really don’t think people will worry too much about which server they are fighting for as long as they are supporting their guild… Yes they will complain if they are losing, but then you just simply leave that guild and join a winning side. (yeah sure you take the 24-hour penalty) but if you are playing to be on the winning side then your not the sort of person that really upholds a good attitude to Guild ethics and probably not worth having people like that in your guild.

New guilds… Well it did come as an afterthought when i click “Create Post”. The cost of joining a server for your guild would reflect on the quanitity of members currently in your guild at that time. So newer guilds with fewer members could join a server at a substantial discount to those who have more members. The price %age would be determined by the server popularity.

ANet could also include a cap on servers for members dedicated to it. So each server could only have X-Amount of members before it became locked. until the other server numbers increased to an equal medium, then it would unlock again to allow more people to join. The locking and unlocking should only really be a guild limitation and single players will not be effected.

Your suggestion said that switching guilds would lock you out of WvW for 24 hours. Personal guilds without affiliation would need to be exempted then otherwise you would be locked out every time you switch to access it. And of course there will be those that make a personal guild, get the affiliation then want to join another guild with a different affiliation. This means they will have to pay again to switch their personal guild. A minor point but it will cost them each time they do this.

Imo the main flaw with your suggestion is the rationale behind it, that the reason for guilds is WvW. Not role playing. Not PvP. Not PvE. Not just to hang out with friends and maybe do this and that. People join guilds for many reasons, not just WvW.

An example of a problem tied to your suggestion. What if someone is a major role player who also likes WvW. The guild with the roleplaying you like is tied to one server but you really want to WvW another server. If you join another guild for WvW then every time you switch guilds between WvW and roleplaying, you get locked out for 24 hours.

Your suggestion has the potential to force people to chose between being in a guild with friends and being in a guild for a particular server.
