Suggestion: Thumbs down button

This was discussed long ago, turned into a shouting match and deleted by mods. I personally see a lot of problems with implementation even though I wish I could flag posters that if they fill a thread I know there is no point in reading it.
I don’t think that we will see any changes to the forums any time soon.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Thats rather dismissive, just because it was flagged as -1 doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t read it or that is a non-informative.
As for the OP, you are doing the same thing, forcefully stating how forum discussions translate into hatred causing ‘collateral damage’while playing. Can I ask you for the ‘facts’ instead of anecdotal personal feelings?
Thanks.

everybody is doing the same thing, does not translate to it being the best course of action. Sometimes you agree, sometimes you disagree, sometimes the other party is plain wrong but is “backed” by a lot of virtual friends that simply +1 since it was their friend that said it.
I expect that if such a function is implemented, a lot of my own posts will get downvoted to oblivion as quite a few players here cannot stand me. That is fine, they can +1 or -1 my posts as they like, even abuse it to “downvote” players that know what they are on about.
Having only a +1 button can give just as skewered view on a topic as abuse of a -1 button can.

I don’t really see how a thumbs down button (aka “add more negativity” button) would help reduce negativity. It would actually give players a whole new way to be negative, and would most likely have the inverse effect of what you’re wanting.
The nay-sayers who you are worried about choking the new builds, will still post that the new build sucks, and they will also click the thumbs down button. If you then turn up and put a thumbs down on their posts then all you’d be doing is adding more negativity to the thread.
You can never resolve negativity by adding more ways to be negative.

I fully support this potential feature, after they fix the search box function >.>
No.
Go to the League of Legends forums. Anyone with an opinion different from Riot’s opinion gets downvoted into oblivion, and none of the most valuable game-changing suggestions ever get seen because they get downvoted so quickly and hidden behind a “This message has been hidden due to excessive downvotes” sign.
The trolls basically took control of the forums using the downvotes.

This should be shouted from the rooftops.

Up and down votes work really well on the gw2 reddit. As a result of self moderation the discussion is usually far better, and people who know what they are talking about don’t get infracted/banned for telling the truth.
i also never suggested a “make invis if X number of negative votes” simply a function where you can, just like today, see when people have upvoted a post a lot by giving it a thumbs down symbol.
Or perhaps adding a little red or green flag to show if it has more or less positive or negative votes.
Under no circumstances do i want any form of self moderation in the shape of automatic post removal/hiding upon reaching any set number of negative votes.
If you do it this way, the trolls can only give the post a little “negative mark” but the text will be there, fully visible, fully readable and most importantly, totally unharmed.

As long as they add a dislike button for Arenanet posts too and don’t grant themselves immunity.
Let em fix a game first, there a lot of crap that has to be done =)

I think they should implement one as well. Make it so that 15 down votes makes the post hidden and you can reveal it if you want to just like LoL’s forums.
Edit: and I’ve never seen anyone post any suggestion to riot and get downvoted, not to mention the riot staff is non existent on those forums.
