Ok, to give Titles more like a meaning instead of just words above ppl’s heads, they should activate “effects” on the hero using it.

Exemple:

Combat Healer: Using this title make you rezz fallen heroes for (x)% additional speed.

Veteran of the Mists: +(x) dmg to lords and guards.

and so on…

PvP Titles should get an exclusive finishing stomp, or exemple:

Ravager: “Using this title gives you a chance (very little) when hit, to strike Fear to your enemy”

tho, this could be considered op, but i think titles would be fore fun, and adding more feature to the game.

This would kind of suck, especially with some of the titles which were only around during LS1.

No, no no.

That would just mean that you’d end up with stupid stuff like LFGs with “need title X”. Not to mention that there’s tons of titles that you cannot get anymore, such as a few relating to LS (Queen’s Jubilee, Halloween, Wintersday, Tequatl) or WvW.

It wouldn’t end up that way if the effects were minor, adding little difference comparing to traits, such as racials. But I understand your denial, you want less diversity in the game, being the simplest possible, thats acceptable.

Now, about the restrict ones, think about the ones “you got”, and not thinking the ones you can’t get anymore because time can’t go back, “You”, earn that title, in that event, with hours of play, explain to me, why shouldnt you use it since you worked hard to get it? Does that have any difference from the things you already got from playing GW1 ?

Just a thought

No. I want to go with the title that I like, not the title the zerker PUG demands.

GW1’s title effects were very bad. Those effects should have been selectable from the hero panel separately of the title selected, instead being linked to the title.

I would not be against that. A panel in which title bonuses are listed and a single one can be selected, separately of your selected description title. As long as the effects are very specific and not to much, like “+5% chance to find a rare drop (cooldown: 30 minutes)” for “Fashion Collector” or “+1% toughness and +2% healing power while under the effects of beverages” for Thirst Slayer.

I like the idea of titles giving effects but not on stats. For me it would be cool for example if the combat healer title when reviving gave you angle wings. Or the Loyal title maybe gave you a golden aura. The traveler title gives you footprints when walking etc… I think the effects should be more cosmetic.

Nah. I think titles should stay as being little cosmetic touches for players to show off their accomplishments. And this is coming from a guy with 18.5k AP and more titles than I know what to do with.

I’m quite sure GW1 title bonuses were independent of which track you had selected.

Also, @OP, you’re not a min-maxer or you wouldn’t be suggesting these ideas. I’m already tired of seeing everyone running Arah and FotM 50 with The Blazing Light. I just have no title equipped because none of them mean anything or have any prestige attached.

What would the title God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals give as an effect though? Immortality?

Edit: @ Esplen, GW1 Title bonuses were not, in fact separate from the title track selected. If you wanted say, the Norn title bonus active in EotN, you had to be using the Norn title. You also had to be in ‘Norn’ areas for the title to take effect, but that’s beside the point.

Like I said in my last post here, the idea is cool but only if the effects are cosmetic if they are stat based it will cause an imbalance. GWAMM title can add golden footprints when you walk! That would be kinda cool.

Titles should grant you nothing but a little bit of text below your name. If you where to make titles provide any kind of cosmetic effect other then that, even if the title was something like “wets the bed” or “I’m that smelly kid” then a million and one people would run around with it, two legendarys and radiant armor because for some reason people like roleplaying neon lights.

I’d support this idea, when the titles would give effects like these:

Achiever Titles = Raises Magic Find by +1%, so wearing the Title Ascended Achiever would give you +10% MF

Been Here Done That = Raises Karma Gain by 10% from Dynamic Events
Birthday Titles = Raise Gold Find by +2%, so a 5 year old Character would get 10% more Gold from killed Monsters
Slayer = Lets a little Fanfare play, when you kill someone in PvP
Champion Slayer = Lets a longer different Fanfare play, when you kill someone in PvP
Rankpoint Titles = Increase the Rankpoints your get by +1 to help a bit decreasing the Rankpoint Grind
Champion Class Titles = Change their Finishing Moves to s special Class Related Finisher that you will see also only when you use this title with the fitting class.
Master Crafter Reduces Costs for you for Crafting Materials from NPCs by 20%
Golden = Increases the Chance, that enemies drop gold as loot by 10%
Dungeon Master = Increases your Token Rewards from successfull done Dungeons by +10
Twice-Told Legend = Increases Experience Gain from Dynamic Events by 10%
The Emperor = Reduces the Cost of Tokens for Dungeon Armor by 10%
Fashion Collector = Increases the chance to get more valuable Luck Essences out of salvaging Equipment that you have already collected by +10%
Miniature Collector = Your Miniature will loot for you, if you have this title active.
Combat Healer = You obtain Karma now also when you revive someone.
The Sunbringer = Deal +10% extra Damage to undeads and additional 5% against Tequatl
Great Djungle Wurm Slayer = Deal +10% extra Damage to Wurms and additional 5% against Wurm Heads of the Tri Wurm
Wurm Bane = You are immune against that Illness from Wurm Spit
Hall of Monuments Titles = You perform special Finishing Moves, while you have these titles on.
Kegmaster = Increases Karma Gain from Keg brawls by 20%
Omnomnivore = plays a loud belch, when you win a Belcher Bluff Match.
As long as WvW Titles Achievements don#t get redesigned, ints pointless to talk about these Titles.
——

Hero of Lions Arch = Works like the Alliance Potion, letting you deal additional 10% more damage agaisnt Toxic, Fiery and Aetherblade Enemies ect and gain more Exp from them plus in this case, also Karma for their Kills.
Sanctum Sprinter = Gain 20% more Karma from won Sanctum Sprints
Crab Toss Champion = Gain 20% more karma from won Crab Toss Matches
Crabgrabber = Perform a special Crab Finisher when you use this title.
Southsun Stalwart = Gain more Craftign Materials from the Material Nodes in Southsun Cove
Volunteer = +10% more Experience from Kills
Avenger of the Dispossessed = Gain daily some small Karma for talking with NPCs in the Hoelbrak Region.
SAB Titles = Reduce slightly the Bubble Costs in SAB should it come back.
The Blazing Light = Perform a special Finishing Move useable only with this title being active
Paid Tournament Titles = unique Finishers useable only with this title.
God walking amongst mere mortals = unique finishign move useable only with this title active.

Thats the kind of effects I’d like to see for those titles, nothing way too special, mostly only finishing moves assigned to the titles which are clearly cosmetical.
And those, that give some little damage benefits, are titles, which are free to get for everyone. Or it are little QoL effects, that reduce the grind of the game.

I don’t support this. This would actually lessen diversity among players. As it is, players use any title they feel like. If dungeon master would grant a dungeon related stat, it would be the only title you would see when running dungeons.

Actually yes. If this happens, titles would become part of your build. There will be meta titles (i.e. top 3 titles for each game mode). Currently, players lean more on zerkers for pve because it’s efficient and most players want a fast run. If you put yourself in the shoes of most players, you would be more likely to use a particular title because you want a fast dungeon run.

Have you even looked at my suggestions? There was nothing under them, that would have any affect on the dungeons that lets you clear them faster with title X on.

All my suggestions are based only on either:

1) Cosmetical Effects based on Finishing Moves bonded to the Title, has no affect at on on player efficiency somwhere else in the game.
2) Small Experience Gain Increases (what would make these titles interesting only basically for newer players und veterans that want to level up a bit faster alts, affects nothing in dungeons or anywhere else.
3) Small MF Increases, nothing special and with maxed out MF + boost you still get alot of crap. Doesn’t affect player efficiency for dungeonns ect.
4) Small Karma Gain Increases, useful only to reduce a bit the karma gridn for making legendaries, nothign that affects anyhow the effienciency of players in dungeons or so…
5) Lets Fanfare’s play, when you kill somebody, purely cosmetical, doesn’t let you anyhow clear dungeons faster
6) Boosts damage against World Bosses – this won’t let you clear Dungeons faster, in fact it would be a help so that slightly lesser people would be needed for those events to be successful
7) Increases in Gold Find..yeah this surely lets you finish a dungeon faster /sarcasm
8) Better Rankpoint Gain ..see above sarcasm
9) Material Cost Reduction ..see above …
10) Token Reward Increase… doesn’t let you do dungeons faster, it makes them only more rewardign for you and reduces a bit the token grind…
11) A Looting Minipet – do I really have to repeat myself from now on ?? it should be obvious by now…
ect pp.

All of my suggested effects have absolutely no affect on the efficiency of a player.
Players which my suggested itle effects won’t be able to do anything in the game better or faster, than any player without that title.

None of those titles will be a requirement to be taken into a group or so that you must fear of beign kicked, if you don’t have title “X” on like this is the case, if you don’t use berserker equipment which is a completely different topic.

So those title effects would be nothign else, than just personal little bonus effects for your efforts of gettign those titles, with effects, that don’t give you any advantages over other players in a way, that you can do in a competitive way anything better or faster than sombebody else without that title, so that people would choose the person with the title over the titleless person to be taken into their groups.

I don’t really like the idea in the opening post, or any iterations of it made further down this thread. The point of titles is that you can display something that shows an accomplishment you are proud of, something you enjoyed or something that sounds nice. This creates diversity. With the suggestions made, people will only use the title that they profit most from for doing what they are doing at that time, which would effectively diminish diversity.

Additionally, this adds some kind of power creep. If titles allow faster accumulation of wealth, or make you more powerful in certain content then anet will need to balance around it, which forces others to get/display that title as well.

Like many posters here, I could only support cosmetic effects, and perhaps some small QoL stuff like the autolooting “minipet” Orpheal mentioned.

If they would implement something like that i already see the next thread where
people ask for an option to hide titles.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
