Not a day goes by without hearing about how discouraging the whole “go kill some champion in Orr for that Adept trait you want” situation is. And I agree, so here’s my suggestion:

  • Trait tier unlocks:
    Traits can be game-changing. The objective here is to introduce players to the full potential of their class earlier, and to prevent players with a build in mind from having to place traits at random until the next tier is unlocked.
    • Decrease Adept tier to Level 20, down from Level 30.
    • Decrease Master tier to Level 40, down from Level 60.
    • Decrease Grandmaster tier to Level 60, down from Level 80.
  • Trait points:
    With the trait tier unlock changes, we have to adjust the trait points accordingly. Here’s the most intuitive distribution I could come up with.
    • Award 1 Trait point at Levels 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75.
    • Award 2 Trait points at Level 80.
  • Trait unlocks:
    The current system is a mess, so here’s three ideas:
    • Give players the choice:
      • Award a selection of Trait Guides when completing an objective within the level range of the tier (only if the character still has locked traits in that tier). For example, exploring Gendarran Fields could award an Adept Trait Guide, whereas exploring Frostgorge Sound could award a Grandmaster Trait Guide.
    • Submit players to the RNG:
      • Introduce Trait Guides into champion bags.
    • Admit it was better before:
      • Unlock all traits.

I think it sounds like a solid rework of the concept, but I don’t think ANet will go for it.

I honestly get the feeling that there’s something they’re not telling us with the trait changes, something that keeps them from improving the system.

Absolutely no to trait guides from RNG. Any more RNG in this game I and will flip my desk over in a fit of rage and THEN quit.

I agree trait tier unlocks should happen way sooner than they do now. Oh and this thread will get merged into the enormous trait thread. You know, the one they’ve been “looking at for inspiration” for 8 or 9 months.

Hah, to be honest I just put the RNG option in there because a bullet list with just two items felt too short. And, y’know, b’cause A’Net n’ stuff.

And hey, if it gets merged, that means someone at least looked at it, right?
