So we are going to get five free Transmutation Charges per account.

but it wold be even better if we got a few extra charge per extra slot bought. This will cost a fortune to redress all my extra characters. Especially so if they have to be fully redressed.

Why would they have to be fully redressed? As far as I know, it would cost the same amount as it would prior to the patch because you can still get different armor, you just pay the same fee you would for a transmutation crystal beforehand. Same cost, except you only need one skin for as many transmutes as you want.

They already give so much charge already. I’ve been playing since the launch and i’ll have about 80 free transmutation charge.

My friend is playing for the last 9 months and will have 40 free transmutation charge. All these basic transmutation stones, kitten transmutation stone, sorry i’m old school, that most people accumulate since they started to play. They are pretty much free transmutation charge, except if the kind of people that transmute their skin about 10 times over the live of their toons up until level 80.

12 characters are a lot when you add in town clothes that Anet really screwed up.

If you don’t role play or have lot of costumes then you are fine. But they are taking away a lot of mix and match outfits that I will need to fix or find new ways to make again.

This could be more expensive than you think, and I am not sure if suggesting that extra Charges be added for people that bought more slots which supported Anet is out of line.

If you do not role play or have lots of towns clothes this will not be a big deal. But for those that do it could get mega expensive.

i have around 410 Stones and about 45 Crystals … all from dailies , monthly rewards and map completion ( 4 times ) , some are from BL Key farming , i don’t know how many i used so far since launch .. lol …. but i’m fully charged and ready !

It depends on what you mean. Your PvE gear will remain. Your PvP gear will take the image of your PvE gear.

Do we know what the cost per charge will be? Will it be somewhere between the cost of a current stone and crystal, to take into consideration that many of us have gotten used to using our many extra stones frequently during the leveling process for our alts, to keep them looking how we like?

Will the income increase come more from an increased volume of use (now that skins are shared across all accounts), which will keep the cost per charge lower?

Or, will they retain the cost of the higher crystal, and we will lose quite a bit of value on our stone to charge conversion of 3:1?

Guess I should go document how much the stone and crystals are now so I can price compare once the charges show up in the store tomorrow.

They’re probably selling the packs in the same crystal quantities so to get some off the TP we would either get 5 or 25? Something like that.

Right but that’s only one. I used to get 3. Those were ‘really’ useful in playing alts up and having a nice look for them to 80. I do a ‘lot’ of map completion, and have a lot of those stones laying around. I have an alt Norn warrior that has 3 pieces of armor (chest, legs, boots) and about 8 weapons (lionguard skin) that I was migrating every 10 levels. I won’t be able to afford that any more, as rather than getting 3 conversions per map completion, I get 1.

Depending on the cost of charges, the ability to play alts and keep them in a look from 1-80 might be overwhelming. Short of doing it ‘once’ with some 18-ish level gear and then just running the train in Queensdale without ever changing my gear until 80 – which I’d really rather not do.

Thankfully she’s around 55 right now, so what I might do is try to milk her gear to 65, do it then, then milk that to 80. I have two characters I wanted to run up from scratch, both Norns, that I wanted to outfit and change up every 10-15 levels with new gear. What will that cost me now?

With map completion at 3 skin conversions each (below 80), I could at ‘least’ give them a full conversion (chest, leg, boot) every time I cleared a map, with extras for weapons, for free. I won’t be able to do that now, unless I pay real money.

I’m not opposed to paying money. I have spent $10-20/month on this game since it’s release, like clockwork (every month on the 20th, I buy 800 gems, and some months I splurge and buy more, like when I started my new Human thief and put together armor pieces from 3 different store sets – thank Jeebus she’s 80 now). It’s as much as I can afford. What this has done, is make me shift where I’ll need to spend that money, and take away many items I used to enjoy (like fun new puppy or lion pets).

Guess I won’t know for sure until I see what the cost/charge will be. Pardon me while I go pop in the game and write down some current stone/crystal prices…

5 free transmutation charges won’t get you very far if you ‘use a lot of mix and match towns clothes or role play much’. Running the 5 cities just once will get you that many, for free.

If you are like many others, you had a bunch of the lower level T stones, which will be converted to charges at a 3 to 1 ratio. Many people had a stack or more of T stones they had no use for. And now they do. For most people the T stones will convert to far more than the 5 free charges you requested.

Most of the town clothes, while no longer being able to mix and match, will be free to use. No transmutation charges needed. Others will be tonics, again no transmutation charges needed.

Curtis Johnson: Transmutation charges can be earned as part of map completes and will occasionally be included in other rewards. Gold can also be exchanged for gems to purchase anything in the store.

It was my understanding that most town clothes won’t require transmutation charges. They will be either sets, that can’t be mixed and matched, or tonics.

Town Clothes sold through the gem store as outfits, such as the Pirate Captain’s Outfit, will be usable as a single outfit skin through the Wardrobe. Purchasing an outfit will unlock it for all characters on your account to use. Outfits will replace the look of equipped armors, are equipped in a separate appearance slot, and do not require Transmutation Charges to use.…… Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.

I love this game. It’s probably the best MMO I’ve ever played, mostly because of the many “socialist” (it’s really not a dirty word) mechanics it has. I’d rate my 2nd stint on WoW of 10 months doing WotLK about a year after it’s release higher, only because all my old friends and spouses were playing together during that, which negated the many weaknesses.

Having said that, how my character looks is 9/10ths of the law. I won’t play ESO because I think the avatars and armor are rather ugly, not to mention how big my feet are. I wasn’t aware everyone was a Hobbit in that game.

It’s why I got so bent out of shape when they changed the human female running animation out of nowhere (asked and asked and asked in support tickets, the forum, bug reports as to ‘why’ and never got an explanation). It’s why I wasn’t super excited to see some of my favorite town clothes turned into tonics, and why I’m not super excited about these changes (though, I won’t really know until I see the prices).

If I wasn’t so fixated on looks, yes, it would make far more sense to not care about it until 80, and do it then. The sad truth is I can’t stand most of the armor in the game, and looking ugly while wearing it makes me not terribly excited to play those characters.

What I wish they would have done is added a secondary level of charges. A ‘skin’ charge. A skin charge is obtained by destroying a piece of armor. That simple. So then you have generic charges, which allow you to apply a skin to anything, and skin charges can be used with that skin only (and if it’s 0, then it’d use a generic charge).

That would allow me to ‘destroy’ armor and weapons that I’ve skinned once to ‘recover’ a charge from them and reapply them free of charge (after the initial cost in charges) all the way to 80.

Which would seem a fine plan, unless the target of their increased income ‘is’ me, of course. If it is, then I lose, and I have to decide whether I want to be that person.

It could be the target of their income is higher end people. People that will change their look once a week, once a month. Maybe build a few extra sets of armor to carry around for different looks (or even different stat builds). If that is the case, the the idea of not punishing people as harshly on the 1-80 journey would seem like a good thing.

It would be interesting to know where they project they will be getting most of their income from this change.

There were like… no options for customization town clothes wise to begin with. Armor and weapons were the only real customization possible otherwise you look like everyone else in your khaki shorts and hoodie.

Well, I know what I can afford, so I’m assuming you meant the latter part.

Angelica mentioned it, and she’s right, I had read it somewhere as well, or maybe they even stated it in the stream (?) that you’d get 1 per city. It’s not known for sure if we’d get even anything for general map completion any more. If we don’t, that makes it even worse.

So you have to work a bit at making your new looks. Just like the rest of us. I have 20 characters. Yeah, not all of those are 80 and getting new outfits. But those level 80s I do have? I have four full sets of armor on my mesmer alone. I’ve been holding off making them look nice because I’ve expected something for a while, and here it is. The vast majority of players are not going to have a problem with this, and are actually embracing it. You need to stop expecting being handed everything because its what you want. There are TWO RP servers, in how many servers total? RP is the minority, and that’s that. You get to mix and match regular armor, which has far, far more variety than town clothes ever did. Now you can put hats and masks to them, as well. You have to work a bit at it. Just like everyone else. Get your refunds, trade the gems for gold, buy your new skins, wander some towns (doing all five will take you about an hour and a half), and make new, better outfits.

It may be a loss in your eyes and for many many others. The fact is that when they made the mix and match town clothing pieces they didn’t make them with being used in conjunction with armor. As town clothes are basically a 4th class of armor the mixing and match items really don’t work properly with the other armor sets. And while some armors do still clip with other sets in the same weight class, there is a whole different set of problems with using the mix and match town clothes items with armor.

Getting back on topic though, I’m happy to get 5 more extra transmutation charges to play with. I’ll get quite a few from the PvP ranks and the transmutation crystals/stones I have but with 11 characters (so far), I’m quite happy to get more charges!

Sorry town clothes were never customizable enough to be anything other than a gimmick. Customization is armor. Infinitely more choices there.

I have worked out I should have 150+ charges and perhaps a few 100+ unidentified dyes with the new patch, so I can’t complain…

The only thing your wallets will be stabbed with is refunded gems.

You get to keep your armors and your skins. Your town clothes that literally had a mere 4 options for customization (so yes you looked like 1/4 of the player base of that race) are being refunded. What the heck guys? Is this really what you choose to meow about ?

I’ll be very excited to get 631 unid dyes. I’ll have every dye, except some of limited edition sets, unlocked for use and quite a bit of light and heavy armor all ready for transmutation, not mention all those nice LS skins that I’ve saved. I just won’t know what to do with myself for a week or so.

For the role players who specialized in mix and match, this is a loss for them. For the rest of the players, the majority of them, the new wardrobe system is a major plus. I never bought any costumes or ever used my town clothes. I had no use for them. Looking around me on my server and the ones I guested to, I rarely if ever saw anyone using costumes or town clothes, except sometimes during holidays when they had new ones for sale and people were wearing them. But a few weeks later, no one.

Now, I’m anticipating using my town clothes. When costumes come out I’m planning to buy some. Some people are losing, yes. But the majority are gaining.

Sorry town clothes were never customizable enough to be anything other than a gimmick. Customization is armor. Infinitely more choices there.

You get to keep your armors and your skins. Your town clothes that literally had a mere 4 options for customization (so yes you looked like 1/4 of the player base of that race) are being refunded. What the heck guys? Is this really what you choose to meow about ?

I was being a bit facetious earlier, so I do apologize for that. I’ve been with Angelica in the big town clothes thread, which has been filled with impassioned arguments with very little dev response. I guess I’m feeling a little tired and, judging from the things people have said in the other thread, it sounds like they’re getting tired too. Possibly because a lot of intense emotion has been drawn out about something that hasn’t been answered maybe as well as it could have.

I love free charges (shoulda specified that) and I think that’s great. I actually love almost everything about the wardrobe system.

Sorry if this gets a bit wordy, but I’m going to pull a little bit from my understanding of the other thread that Angelica and I have been in to explain the frustration I’ve seen people voice specifically about town clothes.

In regards to what I have seen/understood the people who have actually purchased town clothes say:
- they don’t have a problem with them being used in combat
- they love the majority of changes to the wardrobe
- they are happy other people are getting what they want

However:
- they specifically purchased items, including outfits advertised (and continued to be advertised in-game even after the news announcement) as sets comprised of individual pieces that could be mix and matched
- tonics, while refundable, will not be usable in combat or dyable, which means that both the people who bought them to be used as outfit parts AND the people who want town clothes for combat lose out
- the people who purchased the holiday “sets” to use one or two specific parts lose out AND will not be given a refund except possibly on a case-by-case basis. That seems to be a major point of contention.
- My understanding from that thread (and personal opinion) is that it seems weird that anet is drastically changing something that many people have spent real world money on in a way that doesn’t continue the philosophy of the purchase or even the philosophy behind the new wardrobe system, which seems to be enhancing character customization. A lot of people who have cited real-world experience in modeling and programming have suggested alternative solutions to the problem.

The major issue seems to be that anet has stated that they will refund tonics for gems but the feeling I’ve gotten is that they are unlikely to refund sets even though a group of people purchased sets for mix-and-match. And the refund will be to gems, not to any real-world money that was spent. So they keep the money.

Again, I apologize for sounding overly flippant. I’ve been stalking the town clothes thread since it took off and the heart of the matter seems to be the wallet issue.

And I’ll never say no to free transmutation charges. My alts tend to eat those stones right up! >:D

I have no idea why you’re talking about town clothes when they’re being taken away anyway. You’ll get tonics. Only head slot town clothes will even be relevant to charges.

which is a shame, in a way they are cheating the ones who bought town clothing.
they should ether refund some gems to equalize their worth or make sure the town clothing isn’t a tonic but a model/skin just like every other armor you see.

I’ll tell you what. All of my town clothes that is converted to tonics will be refunded.

I will buy charges with those gems. Win win win.

I’m sorry you’re interpreting a “loss”. But it’s for the greater good and Anet is doing what they can to make good on it. They aren’t genies. They can’t magically make it all work.

Look this is my final post here:

I am happy we are getting the wardrobe. And for all those that are befitting from it I am thrilled for you. I really am. But I can not figure out why you have no sympathy for those of us that are getting screwed out of something we enjoy.

Sure I can farm for a ton of Transmutation Charges for the next month, sure I can send back my broken tonics. But some of us are losing part of the game that we really like and some of you do not get that or do not care because it does not effect you.

Anet is take away part of the game some of us love, and not in the slightest way coming near to compensating us. We are very happy that you are getting tings you want, and all I say is just give us a little support.

When I first posted this thread, the reaction should have been. Feel sorry for you, but hope you work it out. Not suck it up and live with it or buy and extra slot and farm in stead in playing.

I am done and wish every one a GREAT experience with the new patch

Angelica, I feel your pain. I have 23 characters..20 level 80s, 1 level 61, one level 35, and one is standing in the tutorial zone as I can’t decide if I want this character to be grandfathered in or experience the new leveling experience.

Almost all have town clothes.

I don’t know where you got the idea that this change to town clothes is a mistake on Anet’s part. They did this 100 percent fully aware of what havoc they would be creating among both the role players and those who thought the default town clothes were ugly.

Those of us who bought and loved the town clothes are being deliberately sacrificed to the greater good…hopefully it will end being to the greater good.

All of us are being sacrificed, not just Angelica Dream.

I am going to keep an open mind and see what these tonics are all about. If I throw a kitten fit it will be when I see the tonics and their behaviors with my own eyes. If I am horrified at what I see, I will storm to customer service with a list of all the town clothes I bought in good faith…but I am sure it all will be fine.
