Legendary weapons and armor (and jewels if they ever get made) should be able to have their sigils and runes interchangeable. The journey to create them and the cost of them should give legendaries more than just stat changes, it should let them be apart from everything else.

Pretty soon with legendary armor we will be able to switch stats on them BUT this will still be limiting since if you want to say, go from zerker stats to condi ones you still have to buy the runes to replace the what you were using with the zerker. This also occur with weapons. It gets to be more and more costly and it would seem better to save the time and cost of making a legendary and just make a bunch of ascended armor and weapons instead.

I can understand why it’s frustrating, but I think it’s important to remember legendaries were intended to be purely cosmetic, not a way to save time, money or inventory space.

Originally they were exotics and you couldn’t change the stats on them at all. If you wanted different stats you had to get another exotic weapon and transmute the skin onto that.

When ascended weapons came out and legendaries were upgraded they added the ability to change the stats because they were making a huge deal of how ascended weapons were a long-term goal (although not as long-term as legendaries) so the idea of making a legendary and then another ascended weapon to transmute it with wasn’t appealing. If the ability to change stats on ascended equipment had been in the game at the time I suspect they would never have added stat-swapping to legendaries.

So whilst I can understand the appeal for certain players in being able to freely swap the runes or sigils on ascended equipment I’m not sure it fits with the intended design – especially the part where legendaries are supposed to be optional, something you make if you want a long-term goal or like the skin, not something you need because they offer functionality no other equipment in the game has.
