Potion Sella
Suggestion for Roleplaying
Potion Sella
Two things that would help:
1. Add the option to right-click emote names, like you can with /say or /map. This makes it very easy to report inappropriate roleplaying (as verbal abuse, weirdly enough.)
2. Reduce the emote range. Please, by the Six, Abaddon, Gaheron, anyone, reduce the emote range. Almost nothing that happens in DivReach or Rata Sum is worth everyone hearing.

We all need to learn to use /party more often. Its, that simple. I do it, why can’t anyone else? Or make a squad for mass RP. Also if you want to do actions * text here * is for actions notation. I’m a rper and I already know how do do this.
Firstly, I don’t think adding another channel for text will ‘help’ roleplay. If anything, /emote is meant for roleplay and if you can’t get by without seeing /emotes in your chat, I’d like to hear a good reason why.
Secondly, you haven’t suggested any actual additions that aren’t currently in the game. More chatboxes? Why? RP lobby? Nice sentiment, but what about guild halls? Or just joinging a party/alliance and jumping to their map?
I always see these types of suggestions but a huge lack of actual substance. What about character bios? More emote animations? Sittings in chairs and interactive emotes? It’s like the best you guys can do is to simply be acknowledged that you exist rather than being serviced so you try to take up the least amount of space rather than expressing what you truly want.
I don’t roleplay, but I don’t see why people are against these new options. A new chat would be great for finding random roleplayers. At the same time it’ll never step on the toes of the people vehemently against all roleplay. The problem I’ve always seen with them using emote chat is that it causes people to disable it if they don’t like the spam. It also feels like we’re sweeping them under the rug like they don’t belong.
I just like street performers, and want to be able to hear the good ones.
The lobby would take a bit of work if it’s a place, so maybe not, but a new chat would be very simple.
I wish this game had chairs we could interact with. We don’t have a proper setting for lots of RP situations, including the ritual visit to the tavern where characters come to seek adventure buddies, or gossip about who slept with Faren. Seriously, we need proper chairs to sit on. The bars we have are overcrowded. We want to sit down!
We could have chairs as interactive objects, that players could use differently depending on their size (because there’s no way a charr could use a tiny chair the same way an asura would) or even their social background (because I don’t see a human noble sitting like a street rat)
I think ArenaNet could do something awesome, considering how the raptor mount acts when the player doesn’t do anything on it. It could be anything, like a simple leg shaking, or a character sliding from the chair at some point…
Just imagine it, a charr grabbing a human chair by the backrest, turning it around to sit on it so its tail doesn’t get squashed. Or an Asura climbing on a norn bench, while a Norn may look at a tiny chair and dismiss it with an air of contempt, or sit on the ground (using the tiny chair as an armrest)
If we had chairs we could sit on, role play would be a lot less awkward. We don’t all aspire to be standing all day like pillar counters, or consortium slaves :’(

The new role-play chat will only hinder role-play, as it will divide the base between those who will use it, and those who are too used to using /say chat. There’s nothing wrong with using /say chat for role-play, as most decent role-players already know to keep ERP out of the public domain.
I do agree that the emote range needs to be shortened though.
Recently there has been a lot of role playing happening. I have two idea to help people that role play and for those that don’t roleplay. Currently most roleplay is done in the emote chat sometimes the roleplaying can get extremely out of hand cough erotic roleplay forcing people to have to turn off their emote chat all together. It also causes people to try and interfere and ruin the roleplayers fun as well. My first suggestion is to make a special chat box for role play so they don’t have to use the emote chat. This will allow people to turn off the role play chat box and not be overwhelmed. It may also help stop people from interfering with the roleplayers fun. My other suggestion is to make a roleplay lobby similar to the pvp lobby for anyone that wants to role play can go in there and meet other people to role play with. Add nice cool areas inside there so they have a variety of areas to roleplay in.
you can already turn this all off in the games chat box options . if it bothers you that much . and far as making a roleplay lobby just for that will not happen at all giving the fact of
megaservers
and people trying to bother other players should be reported and blocked so they do not bother you good luck
