I’m here to suggest a compromise to aid harvesters get their daily t6 nodes now that the Megaserver has gone on to expand to Orr and all nodes are randomized. But first let me preface this as to why it’s important to me (and many other players) to gather our ancient and orichalcum.

2 weeks ago I crafted Winterbark. I consider that no small accomplishment as that sells for 300+g on TP. I gathered all 3000 logs that were refined into 1000 planks needed to create the 250 short-bow staves.

It wasn’t easy, it’s not raining ancient nodes, there’s a total of (2+4+4=)10 among Orr maps and Frostgorge. On average that’s 30-40 logs per character per day. Orichalcum not in a better deal. There are 12 nodes (2+5+5) between FS and ML + CS. They reward an average of 40 ori ores per character per day.

Now let’s look at iron. If I want iron I can go Kessex, Gendarran, Harathi, Lornar, Brisban, Snowden, Dredgehaunt, Fields of Ruin, Diessa Plateau. That’s 9 maps. Each map has at least 20 ore veins, usually with 2-3 rich ones. Can be harvested again an hour later.

Let’s look at platinum. Can be harvested from Bloodtide, Sparkly, Mount Maelstrom, Timberline, Iron Marches, parts of Fireheart. Each map contains 2-3 rich nodes. Can be harvested again after an hour or so.

Now back to the topic at hand. Currently gathering these t6 mats is quite hard given the varying instances one can land in, where nodes are randomized. We can’t rely on node maps nor have any assurance we’d land in the same instance in case we’d like to have a secondary character collecting some mats aswell.

So here’s the simple solution: make t6 nodes only (orichalcum, ancient, omnom, orrian truffle) shared across all megaserver instances/shards but have them randomize globally once a day on daily reset.

The nodes would change frequently enough to prevent botting and go a long way in helping those of us with little disposable gold income that would prefer putting some time into harvesting than buying from TP. We’d just rely on one universal node map we’d update everyday, and we’d be able to keep the TP supply in check as well, before prices shoot through the roof.

Bump. I’d really like some thoughts on this. If there’s enough interest maybe they’ll consider it.

I strongly agree with the OP, and support his idea, or any kind of solution related to this issue.

This. Thank you for coming up with a well thought out solution.
I’m currently working on my second Legendary as well and most of my g income comes from harvesting and selling. The feature patch was supposed to make things easier for players, not harder. But the recent random resets and the megaserver have made it nearly impossible to do so.
I hope someone from Anet reads this, since this is actually constructive!

Agree. While overall I like the changes that came with the patch, they have made certain things more difficult, and gathering is absolutely one of them. It would be great to see a little more stability when it came to ore nodes.

Thank you, it’s nice to see I’m not the only one who’d like to find a solution for harvesting.

I totally agree and support this. I also should add that there are usually 2 orich and 2 ancient wood nodes in southsun as well.

Three orich in Southsun, counting also the “permanent” one at the Karka champion at the top of the ramp.

I’d like to add an interesting fact: being on Desolation server, with everyone trying to get the Lyssa skillpoint, since last update I couldn’t never ever get on my Malchor’s Leap main server zone, ending up always on megaservers. After a week of trying to farm oris and woods there, I noticed that there are not more than 3 or 4 nodes map patterns, of which I’m fairly sure one pattern belongs to Aurora Glade’s main server.
Checking the map patterns on gw2stuff, it could be seen that the “Aurora Glade pattern” was “seen” by ppl from other servers too, as it appears as partially correct on a lot of other servers.

That makes me wonder: are we being sent to specific-and-half-empty servers instead of the old random generated overflows? If that’s the case, couldn’t they just tell us which server we’re logging into?

at LorVan, there is no “main server” anymore

If they could tell us what server we are on, maybe in the guild panel if not on the mini map, that would be a help. At least then the nodes could be documented on the appropriate node maps and we could check the server node maps to see the layout.

At Taygus: that could explain a few things. I’m bound to read again the patch notes >.<
nevertheless, for Frostgorge and Cursed Shore this week I always end up in the same “instance”, with the same “node map”. Happening only on Malchor’s leap, thought it was due to the overcrowding.

At Astral Projections: I agree. Could be the solution while something more structural like the OP’s idea gets sorted out.

While the idea is a good one (and I support it) I don’t think they can technically randomize the nodes while the map is populated (per suggestion at server reset time).

I think they CAN however invalidate or tag a map to be retired so that no more people can join it (and thus eventually it will become empty and not exist any longer). This is how they “reset” maps when updates go live.

Whether this can be setup to be done on a daily basis (or whether Anet would want to do it) is another question.

On a side note, I’m not sure this would be a BAD idea to do across the board on ALL Megaserver instances as I have seen continual reports of BUGGED event chains, Bosses , etc. and daily retirement of maps WOULD reset those bugged events. On the other hand, this would likely cause an increase in live server maps in existence (for some period of time) and I’m sure that one of the side (and economic) benefits to the Megaserver system that Anet desires is a reduced map count.

Thank you OP for voicing a concern I had about the megaserver switch. While I’m not a steady farmer, sometimes I would use a third-party tracking site to help me find T6 mats easily.

That strat’s been blown to kitten. I’ve been getting more ori/ancient from salvage than randomly finding it in the world.

After a map’s hearts have been completed (or if the map has no hearts), Scouts should gain the functionality to show all nearby events and gathering nodes for a very small copper fee equal to 1/4 of your level.

They could even give you a 15min blue spyglass icon effect that will make nodes visible for you within that scout’s area (you’ll know which one in the Source: of the effect).

South sun cove would then get 5 scouts, 1 on each corner and 1 in the middle.

I’d actually use this! As it is, scouts are pretty useless once you’re done with them.

It’d also be a minor gold sink for farmers, so I’m sure ANet would get behind that.

Bump! This is the closest to a solution for what I’ve seen. Megaservers ruined the purpose of my daily Ori and Ancient wood runs on 5 characters…. How am I supposed to get a good income of t6 mats now? salvage? as if I earn ~120 T6’s with that each day. So far the Megaservers have been a big downer for me. Hope this problem gets fixed REALLY soon.

I officially give up trying to get oris and woods until something is done about this. Since last small patch, two days ago, even Cursed Shore and Frostgorge have become completely unstable, like Southsun and Malchor’s Leap. Everytime I log in the node pattern is completely different. If before I was able to make a full run with a char across all maps in 15-20 mins, enjoing the view and helping events along the way, now it’s simply too slow and boring, having to focus on the minimap for the icons.
The t6 prices are already slowly raising, copper by copper. The amount of oris and woods from salvaging is still clearly the biggest part of the market, but I was contributing about 250 pieces of each, farmed everyday, and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one doing that who gave up.

If things keep on like that, it will not be economically productive to invest time in ori and woods farming at least until the prices have triplicated.

I honestly think that even if ANet really cares about some of the player needs, they have theirs as priorities. I see some changes as a way to induce gem shopping, aka real money income for them. You might think that they dont sell high end gear in TP, oh, but they do. I mean, they sell skins and stuff, but they also have a gem exchange system, so what stops some ppl from buying gems and then changing them for gold and buying their items? And I believe that ANet is interested in that more than in us having a steady way to make gold in game, they want more money. All ppl can say loads of stuff, but after all, they run a business and they aim at getting money- Sure they have a good game in GW2 but stuff like making you spend ages to farm mats for a legendary weapon that was already very hard to get, looks now even harder and longer after they damaged one of the ways in which we made some coins other than stalking the TP for items that got lower prices, buy, wait and resell when prices get higher enough to cover the selling fee and give you some money back. That is plain boring and kills the fun in the game, like grinding does. Maybe they want us to spend some time in a boring train as well. Killing the game again. Or maybe they want us to use the new mega boss event guild activation, to have a real small chance to get a precursor. Hell of boring and time consuming. I dont know, I see it all as a way to make the ppl that can, spend money to get things faster. And that is also a way to make the ones that can’t like me, to feel every day more frustrated at the game.
I really wish they would think a lil more in the folks like us that don’t spend the whole day in the game, that like to have fun in the game without having to log to complete dailies and champion runs and hard grinding in the hopes that some very far day we could get a really nice drop and finally make the dream of getting a really cool item to complete the build we want for the toon we use. Not asking that they make things too easy, just that they think a lil more before cutting the few ways we have to achieve those goals. all wishes and hopes….
