Suggestions: Real Airships in Tyria
I may also like to point out that this could also make for a pseudo guild hall for everyone to interact with each other and stuff.
I would love to have airships as guild halls. It is shown in both the personal story and the living world that there are airships of quite big sizes that ‘could’ hold an entire guild.
An idea would be to have the airship(s) flying over a starter city or Lion’s Arch. If you look up you can see one or more of them up high, not unlike how it is done in Orr.
Have a certain point where you can go to the airship, a dock of some sorts, or use the hot airballoons. Gives them a new purpose as well.
A short animation of the balloon taking off, and it pops you to your guild instance.
From the airship looking down you can see whatever city was set by the guild leader to fly over.
In a way it would be comparable to the Omphalos chamber in the grove – an instance you can see from below, but is still a separate instance.
The mysteries dissapear and life stands explained.”
I’d rather have personal airships as something prestigeous.
In regard of guilds, they should implement just like in GW1 again Guild Halls on unique Guild Islands
Let us expand and upgrade these Guild Halls on our islands then slowly step by step with our Influence to Guild Keeps, then Guild Fortresses, then Guild Castles then Guild Villages and finally then to Guild Towns
Thats the most awesome thing ANet could do around the whole Guild Hall idea, which lets Guilds become bigger, not only in size and influence, but also in their home location’s headquarters.
Implement there gameplay known from the Dark Chonicles Games, that lets you become able to build an own Guild Town would be a great way to give Guilds something really fantastic for the next years to build up on as a guild long term goal, that basically combines the Guild Features with elements of Housing too …
But being able to craft my own airship with an own unique design, would be far more interesting, than to try to make out of airships flying guild halls >.>
Nothing wrong with guilds having airships, as you could craft later perhaps for your guild town an seperate airship port, where you could see then the guild’s guild airship that could be used then to transport the whole guild together via WP’s to spots in the game in one go…
If it were to act like a grander scale version of a home instance in which case you can only go to a particular guild hall based on the guild you represent, that should work just fine. Downside of that is: would the stand down feature be disabled if that was the case?
Loving some of the different idea’s you guys have put forward in addition to the OP.
I do like the airship idea, but prefer it as a “Guild Hall” add-on as suggested by Orpheal.8263.
With regards to the OP, I love the idea of GvG while on your Guild Airship… I Imagine it to be very similar to Ship battle in “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
You would have 1 player actually controlling the ship, so the 2 ships within the battle would be moving. but I would suggest a turn based movement system for the ships. Then when they are within range, members of your guild could use certain slingshot weapons to either attack the enemy ship or fling themselves over to the other ship with the Zepherite Aspect (skill 3).
Victory goes to the team that either destroys the oppo’s ship or kills the enemy… Once dead you can only get up if ressed by an ally, there would be no waypoints, and much like EotM if you fall off the ship you die instantly.
Naturally to avoid people logging out and then rejoining the battle, there should be a lock out function that will activate as soon as the battle begins so guild members who did not get to the ship before the event starts will be locked out completely.
My only additional comment for this is a suggestion which some will like other will hate… But I’d love to see Eye of the North converted into an obtainable Guild Hall, whereby you work to rebuild it back to it’s former glory and the scrying pool could be used to access cinematics from the game that you have previously seen… perhaps even allow for the HoM to have trophies for guild achievements (and then add in a tier of upgrades that are unlockable only when your guild has x-amount of Achievement points). Just a thought… this could of course be added into any guild hall but being all nostalgic and sentimental, I’d go for Eye of the North.
I know, right? I think such a feature is possible to integrate in a WvW environment. I’d imagine the challenge of pulling it off would be a complete revamping of the existing maps or making new maps dedicated to this mechanic. I would imagine that unless you are playing with fellow guildies, flying an airship is gonna be a might tougher, especially when all we would have going for to communicate is just text chat.
o_O Guild/personal airships?
That totally solves my problem of where to put personal housing.
I’ll refrain from the “shut up and take my money” picture, but.. yes, please SUATMM.

Yeah, I would love to have personal airships in the kind of FF12-style, super nice steampunk airships, that would be prestige objects on the one side, on the other side a little nice to have quality of life object, that you could use to become able to use the waypoint for free basically as by usign your airship the transport wouldn’t cost you silver then anymore.
Building your own airship would be for you then simply the same thing, why people buy for them permanent gathering tools. Juts for the little convenience, not to have to pay permanently for something anymore.
While you get those permanent gathering tool for the cost of gems, you would get your pernonal WP cost remover in form of a personal airship under a large money sink/time sink/material sink ect. pp an d it would give those people that dislike legendary weapons a different long team goal, that would be same as epic, if you could show to other people in your hown instance, that you own an own personal airship with that you can fly for free (via WP)s to wherever you want
One that looks unique, that you can design like you want and your personal airship could be useable also later for different kind of new game content like minigames like a kind of “shooter minigame”, where you fly with your airship around in an instance and have to shoot down as many enemies with your airship’s weapons as possible to make points
just a wild idea, but every new content just opens up paths for new possibilities for new interesting content
I’m a brain stormer, give me an inspiration and I could ever come up with tons of ideas
Well, design wise, I am thinking of the ships in Guns of Icarus only on much larger scales to accomodate a full guild.
Another awesome idea that will go completely ignored…….
Air ships as guild halls would rock! Even something as simple as a travel mechanism like the Zepplins in WoW would be awesome!

It doesn’t have to be, I would say. As long as people keep talking about it, it will garner attention.

As a travel mechanism, I’d say we got Waypoints for that, but then again, I think I mentioned that if people want to see Tyria from a way up high, that would be an option, though they’d have to move reaaaallly slow.

I wasn’t thinking about it from a move speed perspective. Though now I have to wonder what the lore would say about having a mobile Asura gate on board an airship. =P

You will never see player-usable airships. Deal with it.
Once again, go back to WoW if you want “mounts”.

There’s always one. I wish ANet would add in a forum rule “If it’s not constructive, GTFO!”

Way to bash what could be possible improvements for the game, man. If you got a reason why it shouldn’t be added, you better got a good reason outside of “deal with it”.

Actually, it kind of is a rule.
I think part of the reason the forums are so toxic is we don’t report against obvious trolls frequently enough. Mods have to close threads that get too argumentative, unconstructive, or irrelevant. And that’s a ruddy shame, honestly.

I think a better rule would be “don’t create the same thread thousands of times.”
There is just no place for airships, aside from as a guild hall in the same vein as GW1 guild halls (it’s a separate instanced location and nothing more).
Airships would be ridiculously OP in WvW (fly right into my keep!), have no place in PvP, and are game-breaking in terms of balance (horde of mordrem? I’ll just float above them and shoot them with my bow).
That is not even to mention that the game just plain can’t support them mechanically; the zones are designed for foot traffic. They already put up these ugly mountains where they have no business to be just because they wanted us to be able to swim and jump. What will they do now to block airships from just sailing over them? How would you fly an airship through a dungeon? Or underwater? Speaking of mechanics, what about the huge drain on resources the dozens of airships will be on the servers?
This is why I said what I did. It’s never going to happen.
didnt read all comments, but anyway :
did u try arah story? if so, u know the airship there, its so buggy, cant explain it in words how buggy it is, i just did the airship part again, and whoa dam man, it isnt even fun, besides jumping off
anyway their servers probably cant handle flying airships properly etc
here me jumping, and dont forget to say hi to zhaithan!
they could implement airships easily as weve seen flying hacks before.
They could probably learn from design mishap of Arah and perhaps integrate it into an expansion in a few years, I would say.

Hmmm… I did experience Arah. But so far, progress has been fairly smooth on my end. Though I never fell off an airship.
With the Aetherblade arc, I was hoping and praying for airship-to-airship combat!
Cannons blazing, weakening the enemies defences so you can safely lay down a boarding ramp, then an assault. Makes me drool thinking about it.
Hello Anet guys,
I don’t expect you guys to make this happen ASAP, but I hope that you will put this up for consideration for a new update OR an expansion.
We have established that Tyria has airships. Hell, in Edge of the Mists we got one in a sense. But I think it would be very fantastic to have in GW2, ideally in a WvW environment and if you could pull it off, perhaps in a PvE setting where it would naturally cost significant influence points in addition to gold just to buy the materials you need to construct an airship and we can use said ships in taking out sky pirates, new world bosses who fly or opposing servers in massive dreadnoughts where you would have to take them out a la Guns of Icarus, encourage certain players to man the guns, navigate the ship and ensure regular maintenance of the engines.
These suggestions are still rough around the edges and it may not be very specific, but I hope you can take this idea and perhaps work around with it for future content as I think this would bring more possibilities of fun in Tyria.
The problem is, that the world wasnt designed for players to see from a top down view, so many locations dont have full texture. So that would need to be added first before allowing players to fly. That cost time and resources.
This could start slowly. For example, with a small ship offering tours in a map.
Once they can polish movement in a ship without the stutter we see in Arah, they could move to the next step: Events in the air.

So you implying you’d rather not have actual change in your game? You’d rather make it stagnant?
