So many trollers these days using portals in eotm. I believe certain players are reported several times because of this and yet they still come and troll. If it’s not possible to ban them for trolling like this then plz make it impossible to take portals created by blocked players so that we can simply block them and ignore their words & portals.

Stop jumping into mystery holes and complaining when the mystery turns out to be bad for you. They last 10 seconds, maximum. move your finger away from “F” and count to ten before requesting people be banned.

I should have explained a little more. Of course if you see a portal you target the chest or siege first but if there is no portal most people just walk up to it and press F. I’ve seen many people get caught because the portal got put down just as they were pressing F.

Click on the chest or the siege and hit F. It will choose what you have selected over the portal.

I should have explained a little more. Of course if you see a portal you target the chest or siege first but if there is no portal most people just walk up to it and press F. I’ve seen many people get caught because the portal got put down just as they were pressing F.

It takes two skills to activate a portal. The image of the portal entrance will be visible under the chest until the place it leads to is created. That portal entrance has a 60sec life.

The only way to get chest-snatched is to not realize there’s a portal sitting on the chest when you’re opening (which is difficult) or somehow not have the chest opened while a mesmer has time to set up the whole portal trap (which is also difficult.)

It is not against the end user agreement to make portals that leave to nothing or certain death. So it is not a bannable offense and reporting them means you are wasting the time of support from dealing with real issues. I would like to point out that making false reports is a banable offense too. in this situation I don’t think that you should be banned, but please understand that your personal frustration or anger is no reason to report a player.

Never take a portal that you don’t know where it leads. it is that simple. No need to get arenanet involved in something that simple.

A simple solution would be to make chests work with autoloot. Though that wouldn’t work for siege. Why does the game allow portals(or other interactive game items) to be placed right on top of other game items, anyway?(in a way that interferes with the interaction with the original item) Can someone answer that?

  • How would the game be able to tell a troll portal from a legit one?
  • Why couldn’t this be solved by offering new (and arguably better) options for interact. Instead of just the current two possible keys (‘F’ for loot and user-choice for autoloot), why not also offer options for (i) interact with NPC, (ii) interact with object, (iii) interact with chest, (iv) resurrect player, (v) resurrect NPC, and/or (vi) default (interact with anything not on the list above).

The problem with taking the choice out of the player’s hands is that there can be legitimate reasons for placing a portal or siege close to something else that requires [f] to be used.

What legitimate reason is there to put a player-generated interactive object directly on top of a game-generated interactive object? “close” does not equal “on top of in a way that makes selective interaction difficult”

+1 to the “we need better interact options” , but it may be hard to keep that simple and deft to use.

Don’t they go both ways? , once the portal is open you can port from either end.

Make it so portals are visibly connected in a subtle way by some particle effect, and have a holographic projection of the other side, some kind of panoramic low-res snapshot, maybe an effect like Eternity, where you can see through the portal hologram and what you will face after you enter it.
