better suggestion – add fishing to the game
No thanks…hated doing it in WoW, don’t need it here. There’s got to be much better things for Anet to spend time and resources on.

I’m in favour of fishing. But we only got “pvp” activities so far, I’m not holding my virtual breath.

Hello frands! Vee Wee here #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Any addition to the game that will make people happy that doesn’t have any downsides is a good addition to the game! There could be new cooking recipes using fish! You could have a chance to fish up some salvageable items! Players will spend money on an Orichalcum Fishing Pole from the NPC! Arenanet could make money on an unlimited use fishing pole through the gem store!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
We already have fishing in the game.
Required:
Process:
Hours and hours of fishing fun
[Suggestion] Add angling to the game.
;)
Why is it always fishing?
Why not add knitting, or rock collecting, or calligraphy, or bobsledding, or taxidermy, or…
wait. Bobsledding would be awesome!

I would pay piles of good money for a Taxidermy profession…but only if you could do quagans.

I’m not saying his idea isn’t good, done right fishing can be enjoyable. I was asking for him to do this:

Fishing, Quaggans, Taxidermy … I see a pattern there.
Now, if someone would have said waterski … but bobsledding?
Fishing would add nothing to the game (for me).
Bobsledding however get a thumbs up from me!
It’s not enough to just say “add fishing”.
How do you suggest they do that?
Since GW2 is mostly an action game, fishing can’t be something you can do while AFK.
And since it’ll be basically gathering, it should not keep you at one spot for too long.
For example…
Put fishing “nodes” all over Tyria by water spots.
And put fishing rods as a new gathering tool in merchants (and the innevitable fancy ones in the gem store).
Also add fish recipes to cooking.
And don’t forget to make sea creatures have a chance to drop some of the ingredients you’d et by fishing, as well as putting things like coral, oysters and pearls in fishing.
Now, as for fishing itself… Remember the bell choir game?
Something like that. You use the node, your character takes out the fishing rod and you get your skills replaced. The camera aims at the water and you see a shadow in the water making moves like struggle, jump into the air, quick dive, splash wildly, and pull in several directions.
The shadow of the fish will quickly do 3-5 moves in 2-3 seconds, and you have to quickly press the keys to match it accordingly.
Each node has a ‘quota’ of 3 tries, but they get used up if you succeed on any of them.
If you succeed, you use up the quota of the fishing spot and get your materials. You could even get masterwork to ascended boot drops, although very rarely.
If you fail, you’ll get consolation prices like Worn Garment, basic or fine boots, enemy spawns like a disgruntled drake, angry krait, hungry skelk or an orrian attacing you.
Once all 3 tries are used up either by failing all 3 or succeeding in one, the daily quote of that fishing spot is used up, and you must find another fishing spot.
If you use the wrong fishing rod, you’ll get broken hook trash items.
This way fishing is quick and requires a bit of skill.
Additionally, the Tyrian Explorer’s Society could keep track of the biggest fish you caught, and give you a booklet with all kinds of fish and your biggest catches, and an achievement for matching the TES’s record for each fish. The booklet could be added as an achievement category in your list, and keep track of your biggest catch even when you maxed each achivement by matching TES’s records. You’ll getachievements like “Trout”, “Bass”, “Sturgeon”. But not achievements like “Shark”, “Dolphin” or “Whale”. Those are protected, do not fish them!
This is just an example. Now give yours.

I want fishing from a bobsled! Whoosh down to Nonmoa Lake and fish for Quaggan and krait and hylek for taxidermical practice.
well they already have spear fishing they just need to make the fish meat/mob meet usable in cooking recipes.
Yes please. Makes me think of SAO fishing that spawns a World Boss Fish event.
Also… crafting fishing poles with Huntsman. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Snipe hunting FTW
In fact it is already in the game. Let me take you snipe hunting some time. Look me up.
Did it in WoW Boring! Did it in Rift Boring! Now something that was fun was the Artifact hunting in Rift, add something like that. But not like the Archaeology in WoW that too was Boring.
Hmm…wouldn’t my engi’s net shot give me an unfair advantage?
If so, bring on the fish!

Save the Quaggans campaign starting from today.
Fish in WoW. Bobsled in GW2!
No fishing pls. On too many games, fishing always gets turned into a botter’s haven.
If you must have fishing,
I think they could add lots of fun secondary activities like this to the game.
It’s not enough to just say “add fishing”.

That’s actually a very nice and fun suggestion. Variation of WoW fishing with more active “fish-style”.
Although I’d like the new emotes first, but nvm
I get enough fishing that I don’t do in Animal Crossing….
Taxidermy sounds neat! You could display your work in the guild hall! Oh and have that big fish you caught mounted on the wall.
It would be too easy. I would just jump in water, drop one big ol bomb and collect dead fishes.
You would rather stand at the side of the water and use a string and stick instead of what is in the game now of jumping in the water and actually attacking the fish/sharks/jellyfish/things with teeth?
Fishing in game – boring and dumb – I have played games with fishing and never understood the appeal.
It’s not enough to just say “add fishing”.
Honestly I appreciate you and all that you do, but, I believe you are wrong
I would pay piles of good money for a Taxidermy profession…but only if you could do quagans.
Those backpacks in the store have to come from somewhere…
I’m all in favor of more game modes other than a pvp mode. Fishing, farming, building, something, anything…. other than another trolly pvp game mode.
Yes please. Fishing is always nice
I would enjoy having fishing as a gethering activity, to those who do not want it just dont do it.
And, if you’re concerned about where Anet uses there resources, they can stop wasting time and resources on the sPvP as I will never use that anyway.
I would be interested if fishing could get you certain types of fish that you could use in cooking for some extra special foods with qualities you might not get in regular foodstuffs.
I would be interested if fishing could get you certain types of fish that you could use in cooking for some extra special foods with qualities you might not get in regular foodstuffs.
I was more thinking in terms of purely cosmetic non-angel-to-win items … like an artificing recipe … tonic of the mermaid, or the tailor outfit recipe “sharknado” (drop, sorry, fish chances for shark teeth are really low though).
A long, long time ago I had a suggestion to add fishing, but not your boring old WoW style cast and hook. GW2 style fishing. Now, being GW2 style fishing, there should be a few obvious things, such as:
1. When you equip a fishing pole you get a new set of skills. Ideas for this could be…
Fishing should, of course, be a leveled discipline. The higher your fishing level the more success at catching fish you’d have. In addition, you’d be able to craft better fishing gear, up to exotic (for now) poles. (Could be some rather nice skins, even a steam-punk style fishing rod.)
Bait. Different fish should require different baits. Baits could be acquired by a variety of means, including gathering nodes (worms form dirt piles or when harvesting “root” types of plants, grubs when chopping wood, unique “bait only” nodes, etc.), cooking, and the Trading Post as well as purchased from vendors. (“Bait” would include mechanical baits, such as lures.)
Tackle boxes. Hey, we need somewhere to store the bait, right? So, have a unique bag slot available that can only store a tackle box. Tackle boxes would be crafted, most likely by the assorted armor crafts, and range up to 20 slots.
Of course, fishing means fish, which means new foods! Cooks, grab the lemon and butter!
And finally, to round this all off, fishing GW2 style would be more than simply catching fish. It would be more… dynamic. You see your pole wiggle, you set the hook and, instead of landing your fifth consecutive trout an event pops up: “Defeat the Rampaging Champion Krait”. Yep, you accidentally hooked a champion Krait, and he’s not amused. Other random event things could involve catching fish for a group of skritt who then take the fish and continue the chain along, etc. There are many ways to rarely kick off new events that stem from simply fishing. Things like hooking a champion would be rare random spawns, but other events (skritt example) could be more common (they ask for help, you do or don’t, yada yada).
But that’s the gist of it there. Fishing GW2 style as I see it, open of course to refinement.

Rather than the game rewarding me for standing around clicking a button every few seconds, I’d rather it reward me for doing events beyond the pathetic rewards since the patch.
Add land sharks. Land sharks hunt fishers .. thats what we really need. Land Sharks
add parachuting/gliding so i can climb up to really high spots in the snowy areas and weeeeeeee!!
I would pay piles of good money for a Taxidermy profession…but only if you could do quagans.

+1 for bobsledding

Maybe not bobsledding but there is a ski jump in Hoelbrak.
bobsledding would be better than fishing, maybe I should re-think this
