I hit level 80 about a year ago, and since them, ive been on and off playing doing WvW, the living storys, and doing map completion. I’ve found that I play in very short bursts and then take month long breaks is because I have no idea what I should be doing at level 80 and how to advance my character. I still have level 78ish gear and have made around 50g in my entire time playing gw2 ( not including the regular expenses). Does GW2 even have any endgame at all?

Yeash, you can do dungeons or PvP. Considering the fact that you have 78’ish equipment, perhaps you could start on crafting a set of ascended equipment? Here’s a wiki page about ascended equipment whereas there’s links for each type of armor.

7800 hours ingame, and counting.

Endgame?

Problem is this game was made to no have an endgame. Endgame can be explained as a situation where you capped out everything and there is only so much to do as you’re OP for the rest of the world.

Looking at Gw2 we see some things.

-As there is level scaling (downleveling in lower level area’s) you do not get extremely OP. Therefore the lower level maps still contain relevant content
-As there is no gear above lvl 80 in effect you are a full maxed out character when you reach lvl 80 and can be fully traited and geared.
-As there will be no further progression above l80 you will be able to focus on gameplay, finding and creating skins, experimenting with builds, honing skills in PvE, WvW and PvP.
-As you venture around PvE you’ll find that most long living world chains are most valuable (hirathi hinterlands for centaur chain, temple of balthazar chain) regarding loot and doing those might be not to difficult due to the amount of players but it will still take effort to collect better loot (more taggings and making sure the event will succeed so it can progress (only exception seems the broken escort mission in cursed shore to Jofasts camp)
-Other loot farms are dungeons, temple events in ORR, "difficult world bosses (tequatl and triple trouble)
-Lastly there is FRACTALS which is IMHO the only true end game content in the classical sense, which allows for levelling, the only thing which makes this a bit unrewarding is the seemingly low scaling loot and gold reward…

-WvW has a different skill system in the world ranks, it is generally accepted in my wvw guild all people below rank 230 are still newbs (read carefullly newbs not noobs, noobs are people who became platinum in EotM and still cannot hold their own in BL’s and EBG). when you hav 230 points you will have acces to both stacking bonusses
-PvP uses it’s own reward track as well…. I am a fervent WvW player but I have little interest in structured PvP myself.

Understand PvE is for casual play, it is a true Time-sink. As such the present content is meant to do just that. You do not have to worry about preparing for lvl 80+ gear as there will be none. never. You’ll be lvl 80 and you have a full world to enjoy even below lvl 10 and it will still be fun, I spend some time helping newbs (=starters) in low level area’s and trying alternatives to te plain DPS builds, It is what keeps me interested, I ot map completion with 8 characters now and have 15 lvl 80’s which will stay geare and usefull, due to the fact I do not have to worry I need to regrind gear for all of them at expansions. I farm skins, dyes, achievements, gold, tokens, karma, and materials so I can stay usefull in dungeons, with slightly changing meta’s and I try to keep up with the newer stats. I have farmed recipe’s in th past and unlocked content people never though to be usefull (but it is, for content other then true dungeon speedruns, I carry 2-3 armors on most of my 15 characters, 1 for PvE 1 for alternate content (I use some for world bosses, some for WvW, some run full condi (WvW roaming but sometimees just to do somthing different in PvE (ever ran a rabid mesmer in SW? or sinister necro/warrior or just a hybrid trapping ranger? You will not do max DPS but who cares. it isn’t a dungeon…))
A good deal of the people still think their zerker warrior is OP, but meta has shifted so far warriors are now used for 2 things in PvE/Dungeon meta, A moderate melee DPS or Phalanx strength build with banners… For DPS we use other characters now, the people who do not know are stuck in the past… To keep up people should considering alts and making them fully useable. This game discourages the Main, and as a consequence I have 8 “mains” now in 7 proffesions, and a further 7 characters for WVW….

SO endgame is keeping yourself in the game, getting familiar with most or all proffessions gearing them, dressing them up, getting relevant gear, and enjoying all content….

Good luck in finding somthing to do, which is easy, the biggest diference is you set your own goals instead of having to run to a NPC an wait for your instance and group, and set it up. For now you can bridge your time with these suggestions and wait for the expansion which should release “repeditive PvE content with rankings”.

Good Luck and Have Fun

I knew that, but i’d like to know where the starting point for getting that 80 gear is in the first place.

So if im understanding correctly, I should start looking into this crafting thing, run these fractals things, and go find these world boss guys?

Sorry if im not fully comprehending everything, I come from WoW where its
Get to Level 100 > Craft/Buy baseline gear> do Dungeons > Do Heroic Dungeons > Do Normal Raids > Do Heroic Raids

L80 Exotics can be bought with karma, dungeon tokens,or wvw tokens. It can be dropped as loot (if you’re lucky), crafted (lvl 400, pretty cheap) and purchased on the BLTP if needed

L80 Ascended can be dropped as loot (if you are VERY,VERY lucky) or be crafted (lvl 500 pretty expensive) Lvl 80 ascended trinkets can be bought with laurels, rings drop in fractals, accesoires you can buy with guild commendations from guild missions,

and backpacks can be made with huge investment normally on lvl 500 for ascenededs and 400 for normal exotics (newly introduced back for max lvl 78 is a vey nice starting solution for players.

Map completion of the Orr zones is a good goal. You can get some quite nice gear from it.

No you should set your own goals. And do whatever you want. Just grinding fractals will be nice for a couple of days, and start to be annoying afterwards.
I tried to tell you you can do EVERYTHING.

-Unlock all your traits and make the character workable first,
-Get ascneded trinkets first.
-Get map completion
-Get obsidian shards so you can make ascneded or legendary items
-Get cash/materials to pay for leveling your crafting to 500 to make ascended gear
-Get your weapons crafting/artificer/huntsman (depending on proffession) up to 500 and craft yourself ascended weapons.
-Get a WVW build and gear and do some EotM… (to farm karma mostly)
-Get dungeon meta gear and build and learn those (to efficiently farm gold)
-Get agony resistance on your ascended trinkets, (to run high level fractals)
-Get an ascended backpack (because you can)
-Get an ascended armor… (why not?, or just get)
-Go and figure out if you like PvP (not my thing but luckily everybodyt is different)

Set new goals, get a legendary or more, get skins (think of Black lion ticket skins you like.) get all dyes, become dungeon master, become dungeoneer,

If you need materials go run the Orr trains, run Silverwastes, and or Dry Top.

You could dig up the living story S2 (it costs money: 200 gems / episode ye, but 3-4 days of dungeons you could earn enough gold to unlock a story part) It could explain why we are in dry top/ silverwastes atm… IMHO it is expensive for a very small amount of content BUT it could be nice if you dig story line and an idea what happened…

Well just do whatever you want to do. You are “the hero”
