Supporting the Game & Spending my money
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7U5qUYusbs
They’re making bank. I don’t think you have to worry about supporting them if the content isn’t quite your cup of tea. For what it’s worth, I’ve spent a decent amount of money on this game (including purchases for other people), but I’m not inclined to spend another dime until they reel in their businessmen a little bit. There is room for improvements, and at the same time the financial reports show that they take coin baths in a tub of gold. People who are enjoying what’s on offer are paying them well enough.
Besides, you already gave them a satchel of support when you bought the game.
See what happens. It’s not unusual that MMOs stick around for years – something might compel you to make a worthwhile purchase later without a shred of doubt clouding you.
Funny…some say the game is dying because the financial report show them losing money left and right. And others claim they are dripping in gold. Hard to believe anything on the forums.
Just an FYI, the money you spend in buying gems doesn’t necessarily go to GW2. NCSoft will be using at least some of it to fund other games they publish.
If you don’t like content, don’t buy gems. They need to produce better content rather than “run around spam F and zerg” and “Scarlet” before they deserve the support.

And how do you suggest they develop “better content” without money?

If you want to support the game, please post educated, well thought out ideas on the forums in places the devs don’t have to dig. They look here. They listen. If you ask me, they need to dial back the LS content to about a month per and give their guys a break to make sure the quality is there. Meanwhile, make 800 gem reusable gathering/salvaging tools and a whole catalogue of in-game armor sets, weapons and town clothes with DEALS rather than deadlines for temporary purchase. They’ll make plenty of money and maybe keep more folks interested.
They had to SPAWN MORE OVERFLOWS!
Right, so this is something I’ve been going over in my head for a while now.
I’d like to support this game and I’d like to see it do well. As far as I know, the best way to do this is buying stuff from the ingame store. However…So far I haven’t been a huge fan of the living story (don’t hate it, just didn’t keep my interest). And I fear that my money will simply go towards updates, which are cool, but not really my cup of tea.
Should I buy gems now, so that Anet has the money to invest in new stuff that I might like to see, or should I wait until Anet actually adds that sort of stuff so I can show my support for it?
1. Quit jerking around your supportive base by raising gem store prices on items, pick a set price and stick w/it.
2. Start marketing better, all it takes is a email sent out few days to a sale or some purchase bonus.
3. Get rid of this prospect theory, the gem store looks like some over priced empty bodega.
4. Figure out a PvE locker or add skins to the Rewards panel achievement tab for Gem store weapons/armor & LS helm/back rewards.
Unfortunately OP in a b2p/f2p game our opinion as individual means not so much, not like you can withhold your sub. Every time you don’t spend money in the gem store another player is dropping X amount possibly in the hundreds.
My issue w/the game is how NCsoft runs the gem store. For the game I have a few minor concerns, but overall enjoy it and the direction Anet is going w/it.

buying gems does not support Arena.net sales of gems go to NCSoft and they can choice what to give Anet as funding. Sadly when you buy gem’s your supporting other games.
This is my humble opinion but I think in another year NCSoft will let GW2 start to die. The game sold well off its Guildwars 1 reputation but we are seeing the game lose its steam rapidly. Thats why they have been having extreme sales and marketing campaigns to bring in new customers. Things don’t change soon they will just allow the game to slowly die off.
Heh, NCsoft also killed of City of Heroes, one of my old favorite MMO’s, not really interested in seeing them get all my money. Alright, thanks for the feedback guys. =)

By buying gems you mainly support the bad stuff.

Support by buying expansions (when they release them) not gems. Buying gems results in the opposite of a better game imho.

The same way also all non-MMO games do. You invest, release, get more money then you invested, use part of your profit for the expansion (non-mmo’s that would be the next title) and make money on that expansion. Take part of that profit again to develop the next expansion and so on.
