Well that’s what they said….but guess what….if you want to finish your personal story, you need a five man team.

I’m willing to give Anet allot of slack, but when they say one thing and then do the opposite…..well that gets me mad.

I’m a casuals gamer, and like to do most things by myself. Being able to finish the game as such was a big reason why I bought it.

But for some inexplicable reason, they decided you need to get a team to finish the game.

I have no problem with people that like to team up….hell that can be fun. But I also want the option to do it on my own that they promised.

Apparently Guardians can solo their personal story until the end dungeon…

All I know is that taking my Elementalist down the Vigil path turned out to be quite a poor decision. I was so focused on story I didn’t stop to think that they would make it nigh impossible for scholars to do that quest line.

Would love to see the story get balanced so all professions can solo their story – kinda rediculous that I’ll have to get help to progress without annoying amounts of armor repair costs.

Normally, I don’t respond to these types of posts but I felt the need. I understand the desire to solo a lot, especially since I like to read and not rush but it is an MMO, so sometimes it makes sense for grouping to be involved. Frankly, I wish there were a lot more options for grouping, since there is so much solo content to be had. I like to mix it up some.

What do you mean “more options for grouping?” Everything in this game that can be solo’d can also be grouped, but not the other way around. There are plenty of options for grouping.

I don’t know if you played BETA but there were quests in BETA were you could die up to 50 times or it would be impossible to complete. Man it’s changed a lot. I wouldn’t put it over on Anet to say they got every little thing.

But ya I agree about the end quest thing because eventually everyone’s going to be done with that, so what do you do when there’s no one left to help?

Storywise it absolutely makes sense that you can’t beat Zhaitan on your own, he’s an Elder Dragon and you really should need an army to defeat him. So I get why they decided to put the final fight in a dungeon.

You can do almost everything (besides dungeons an therefor the final story quest) on your own which makes the game quite solo friendly. Yes, you can’t finish the story line on your own, but then again they just said the game would be solo friendly and not completely doable without others.

I can whole-heartedly agree to this… but when I go out in the game world I like to solo things. It’s fun to take down challenging veterans and if I don’t screw up – champions on my own. I don’t get to do this much though – there’s always too many people wandering around the zones looking for events to level up on.

The least they can do is give me something that I can truly solo, something no one can interfere on that can give me a sense of accomplishment. I’m not asking for them to make the quests easier per se – just needs to find a better sense of balance because as it is only certain professions can enjoy the content I seek.

Alice…I understand what you are saying, but they clearly stated you could finish the game as a lone wolf if you will….well not so.

I have no problem with dugeons needing teams, but I would like to finish my personal story by myself as they advertised.

I did with an engineer also till the last one. Arah is even tougher to get a group for though now than it was the month ago I completed mine. Good luck my friend!

The only way around this was hired henchman like in GW1. However, it is my opinion that all dungeon story modes should be re-geared to give out no tokens and should be soloable.

But it should be doable…….solo.

As is….unless your a pro…I’m not….it makes the game not fun.

Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one. I have 2 level 80s who haven’t completed Arah. As soon as I saw them point me to a dungeon, I thought to myself, “Hmmm, 80 levels of solo story only to be forced to group for the last one. That makes complete sense…”

However, I wasn’t all that surprised because MMOs have this fetish for forcing people into dungeons (points at Fractals).

The problem with group only content, is as the game gets older, this basically become unplayable. You need 4 others at the exact same point as you. This is why story mode dungeons are pretty much not done at all. Its a very poor design choice. Things should scale in difficulty and reward depending on the number of players, just like the events in the open PvE world.

GW 2 was all about play as you want. You want to craft great, we reward that, you like to explore, we reward that to. So I would say it goes completely against the spirit of the game to ‘force’ you into a specific style of play to do some things. This is why the whole Fractals thing became such an issue/complaint for the community.

I was with the Vigil thing until I hit that sewer… Then I had to level above it and basically run through it repeatedly..

The problem is at this stage in the game no ones interested in grouping for personal storys and theres no tool to make it easy.

I just hit Arah on my personal story too. Asked on Map chat if this was really requiring 5 people to do or if it was just “in” the dungeon. Stunned they chose this route.

My question is, what the heck are all the NPC’s we met in the story for then? How is this supposed to feel like the culmination of MY PERSONAL story if I need to find 4 random people to do it with? It just doesn’t make sense…… The NPC’s should be my backup and my team. Not to mention, the ending can be completely ruined by these now 4 random elements….

Soloed the complete personal story twice now. Once with my elementalist, as a member of the Order of Whispers and my necromancer doing the Vigil path. Finding Arah groups wasn’t tough and while there were some challenging points, I was able to do most of the missions below the recommended level.

The elementalist is my first character so that one wasn’t geared in the best way either, but I did it. Some parts are going to be just tough and that’s a good thing, IMO.

I am with you on this. It just felt… wrong. I mean I did get a team, I did complete it eventually. But I postponed it for a while. I was thinking how is this MY PERSONAL story. I only got to do some “hack and slash” while someone else got the scenes. I do like to play with others, I really do. But I also like my story to be well… mine.

You can always join a different server to find parties for Arah. In FoW, Arah is usualy dead so completing the story took me 2 weeks of waiting.

I’ve recently jumped to Desolation to check out some good WvW action and found that in Arah there are tonnes of people. And whats more, the way these people all help each other to open temples and keeping Arah open is quite refreshing.

If your stuck trying to complete Arah, just jump to a higher populated server. Once its done, hop back. Its that simple.

Forced grouping imho is always wrong but especially in a “personal story” which is suppose to be and should be solo capable from beginning to end..

I had to bring a few friends on more than a few occasions to complete my personal story..

The game is meant to be solo friendly and the last mission of the personal quest is not. The entire storyline from Guild Wars I could be soloed, even dungeons.

It is a bad oversight on Arena Net’s part and does needs addressed, especially since it is a feature they marketed. I am not saying make it easier for groups, but all they need to do is when a single player joins the instance make it so they have AI followers take the role of other party members. It would be just like in the original Guild Wars, Arena Net have provn before they are not that bad with follower AI, when they try.

The party members could even be made up of unique personal story characters, which would give even more meaning to all those choices we had.

I’m sure before launch that they billed the Personal Story as the portion of the game you could do with others, but didn’t need to.

It’s disappointing to hear that you have to have a group to finish it.

Even acknowledging all of the good arguments why there should be content that requires grouping, it makes no sense to give us the ability to solo our Personal Story the entire way, then switch right at the end. ArenaNet has specifically said they do not want to give us a game that suddenly changes at the end.

Alot is solo so i dont understand the whining and some part is not solo for obvious reasons.

Game failed becouse for most events there are just no players world is empty even primetime weekends:(

But also player base is terible not only many are cheating also doing instance only for farming and with WvWvW plus sPvP PvE world dont have enough players to do most events let alone doing the temple bosses in high lvl70-80 areas.

I refuse to farm instance for better gear or just mats im not playing game if its like work. No fun in constantly doing a instance so i get tokens no way.

Im also very dissapointed with community who for most part dont help or let you die they go straight for farming mats like mines or there skill point realy sad how game has developed:(

Personal story i have same problem can’t solo last part and can’t find people to help me eather

I keep playing but this is not the GW2 i thought it would be when i saw press beta weekends and when i played beta:(

It’s not solo friendly when open world requires 50-100 people in a map area to make the area ‘walkable’ because there are continuous World Events spawning on top of the map and 7 outta 10 waypoints are contested.
It’s not even group of 2 or group of 5 friendly when you are the only 2 or 5 walking through.
These servers should be consolidated to 3. There’s no one on them.
