Survey: Who wants 2h Battle Axes?
i want all weapon they can put in!
would love the axe.
and whips.
and claw cloves.
and flails.
all of them.
and lot of love for wvwvw.
I think they’d be a nice weapon addition in the future, sure. A crossbow would be another option they could consider adding in the future. What would be challenging is thinking of other types of weapons for more casterly types.
Battle Axes would be AWESOME. Those large, sweeping strikes… I think it would be a fantastic addition to the game.
I thought Battle Axes were in the game at one point from an old screenshot. Maybe not hard to implement in the near future? Who knows!
Oh, and Fist Weapons would also be great, too… hahah.
Extreme yes, amongst a heaping pile of other weapons. Also would like to have spears on land.
Simple answer – yes.

Chakrams from Kingdoms Of Amalur: The Reckoning is kittening AWESOME, and it would also work very well in GW2 combat system.
And yes, I ABSOLUTELY want 2H Battle Axes. In fact, after I get my Volcanus, I will be saving up all the gold for 2H Battle Axes when they come out in an expansion.

Hmm… I could see mesmers using a one handed javelin… could be either a ranged or melee weapon.
I think a good solution would be to put in Hammer skins that look like great axes. The animations are good enough, and that way we could get the look without changing abilities.

2-handed Battleaxe
Crossbow
Gatling rifle/pistols
Yes.
Would enjoy but only on necromancers and (semi-serious) thieves, as it would end up functioning too much like a 2h sword for most classes.
I am anti-censorship, for it doesn’t make sense to pander to a minority.
I definitely want the 2H axe, still not sure why they decided to leave out such a staple of the genre. /boggle

Anyway, why would you want whips?! xD

Cause hes kinky. Yes to more weapons but what about traits.
Whips are awesome!
I want pistol/whip for my engineer!!!!!
One of the main characters in the Guild Wars 2 novel “Ghosts of Ascalon” used a two-handed axe as his weapon of choice. I was disappointed not to see that weapon available within the game (the irony being that the character from the novel is).
I’m 100% in favor of ANY new weapon types that the devs want to add (at least within the realm of reason, once they start adding paper fans and shish kabobs then not so much). More skill variety and general weapon variety is always welcome.
Battle Axes aren’t the top of my list (that would be flails or lances / halberds) but I would appreciate them all the same.
More weapon choices, sounds good to me. Necros call dibs on 2h axe :P
50/50 GWAMM x3
I quit how I want
A long staple of ArenaNet’s success in development is the implementation of weapon skins and/or archtypes that further diversify the flavor of the gameplay in their MMOGs.
Battle Axes, Flails, Whips, Katana, Halberds, etc. all seem to be ideal fits for the design and combat flair of Guild Wars 2.
Sagardon Kahn – Guardian
Hagalaz Kahn – Warrior

This. Good attention to detail, by the way.

I want Claw weapons for Thief more than anything, that cater to Bleed/Condition spec.
I welcome 2handed axes as well though.
I see the word here already, but for the record, a “2h battleaxe” is actually a Halberd, and yea it should def be included. It’s a traditional and viable weapon, esp for Warrior and Gaurdian. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t included? It’s got more of a niche feel than a GS.
I dunno if I can really envision any other class using a Halberd, and that amount of effort for 2 of 8 classes was probably not viable for the devs, because I am willing to bet that it was considered already.
I’d like to see some polearms. Like halberds, bardiches, glaives, etc.
Yes.
They are awesome. Simple as that.
i would love to see that

I would love to see 2h axes.
id love to see battle axes in game.. but they better make it big though.. and i think hammers are too little…
Shadow Legion of the Dovahkiin [ SLD ]
I would rather see a two handed shield first. I’m talking captain American style. This two handed shield would be usable by warriors and Guardians.
There is actually a two handed shield already in the game, one that is the conjured earth shield that the elemental list can use.
I think it would be cool only if
We can chop trees with them.
That would be neat.
Would be sweet ! And then everybody still runs with gs since its the only viable weapon to use in alot of situations..Yeaaaah!
Oh yes…
And many other weapons, please – scythe would be nice to see again too. Ditto crossbows, knuckledusters, throwing stars, whips, flail, holy hand grenades – bring it on.
But seriously, I can imagine new weapons being the way Anet plans to expand the skills available over time. Each new weapon would represent a lot of development time so I would have thought these will come in the big paid expansions, but you never know…
It occurs to me that there is room for bringing in variations on current weapons, which would carry different skills. For example, bring in something called an ‘Eldritch Sword’ weapon type which you use like a sword, but would have its own set of skins and skills.
The game is young – there’s a lot of room for innovation.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Holy hand grenades…
…I just rendered a humorous mental image of this silencing the spammers in Lion’s Arch.
Sagardon Kahn – Guardian
Hagalaz Kahn – Warrior
yeh i would like 2h axes, with different skills than the GS but similar
Tis only what you can do for all
I know we have spears for underwater combat (it’s wasted there) but there is no reason why it can’t be implemented for land combat.
I was surprised to find that 2h axes were not in the game. They are an iconic part of the fantasy genre as a whole.
yes please, for rangers.
and I would love two handed hammers for engineers pls.
:)

how about orbs and books as weapons?
floating magical orbs and books as offhand gear
on topic, i’d also like to see 2 handed axes and more variation in weapon/armor types
Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer
I would love 2H axes, along with an in melee option for engineers.
…and I’d love some real scythes for necromancers, 2H melee option.
i bought the game assuming there’d be 2h axes- that was gonna be my first character…
im assuming theryre gonna get em in here-
its hard to remember we’re alive for the last time
Nope. They don’t really fit well in my opinion.

Agreed 100% on orbs and books. Those two would be very good “magical” weapons.
That said, mages don’t really “need” magical weapons only either. I’d have no problem seeing more weapons like the Mesmer Greatsword added to the scholar professions, where its a normal melee weapon being used in a very unconventional and magical way.
For instance, a Mesmer equipped with a knuckle weapon could manifest fists of illusion to punch enemies from a distance.
Any of the scholar professions could utilize a Crossbow to fire magical bolts instead of physical ones.
Necromancer could use something like a spear primarily as a weapon to stab into the ground and summon various effects from the ground under enemies.
Well considering the nightmare court has whips ,and I have seen an enemy who used his fist to fight (not to mention the elite skill for the warrior). I see no reason why those aren’t already in the game for use. As I mention in another topic everyone gets new weapons like Rangers/Necromancers get whips ,Engineers get a steam punk minigun ,Thiefs/Warriors/Gaurdians get knuckle dusters(something to that effect) Warriors/Gaurdians also get the already stated haliberd ,naginata ,and the like Necromancers get a Scythe (Duh!). As for the Mesmer ,and Elementalist nothing really came to mind maybe the Ele. also gets the knuckleduster like weapon (who doesn’t want to falcon punch the risen). Mesmer could get maybe the scythe also ,and do moves that tear into the fabric of reality (not sure). For me I have a few characters of different classes as I’m sure others also due ,but I would if nothing else like to see a whip for the Ranger. Probably should count as a 2h weapon reason being most well know characters from other games use it that way ,and then it could have use of all five weapon skill slots which would be nice. Knuckleduster like stuff for some other classes (Warrior ,Gaurdian ,Thief ,Elementalist)
Edit: just noticed someone made mention of orbs ,and spell books which does sound nice for the three mage classes as well.
YES! I’d love to see some big whoppin’ two-handed axes. Was very disappointed when I first started playing and they were absent.
Also, whips. Saw some NPCs using whips/whip-like attacks that looked positively awesome, would love to see that as a player option as well.
And javelins, for both melee and throwing.
I would also like to see bare-fisted martial arts style attack options for warriors and rogues. Especially for rogues.
I’d also like to know, is there a katana-like sword skin in this game, either 1h or 2h? Would love to unleash my inner samurai.
And throwing stars for thieves, because why the heck not.
I see the word here already, but for the record, a “2h battleaxe” is actually a Halberd, and yea it should def be included.
Not exactly. A halberd is a specific type of pole arm (halberd is also known as a “staff axe” or “pole axe”). Pole arms in general, including halberds, were meant primarily as anti-cavalry weapons. Two-handed axes, or “warrior axes”, had much shorter grips (enough for two hands and some extra reach) than pole arms, and were for close-quarters (infantry) battles.
I think a good solution would be to put in Hammer skins that look like great axes. The animations are good enough, and that way we could get the look without changing abilities.
I think this is a brilliant solution!
I swore I read that warriors were able to use two handed axes in their profile on the gw2 site, so I was under the impression that I could use one during the betas but was severely dissapointed. On the same profile they said warriors had some abilities that they could hold(or charge) and release for my powerful effects, this also didn’t make it live.
But yes yes triple yes to two handed axes in the future, they are my all time fav in all fantasy RPGs. My warriors begs for one
Definitely, yes.
Uru Kalach (80-War)/Kalthin Leafletter (80-Rgr)/Kalfun Gai (72-Guardian)
Leader – An Unexpected Kinship (AUK)
Sure i vote yes. More the better imo.
There isnt enough customization in GW2 imo. You see som1 with a 2h weapon and u know exactly what skills they have ..becouse u have no choice. Atleast if there were more weapons there would be a bit mre variation.
However i woud personaly want GunBlades put in over battle Axe’s.
We have rifles ..and pistols ..So there is no reason not to have a GunBlade ..both 1h and 2h versions.
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |
I’d love to see more weapons. It would introduce more variety which is always a good thing.
and claw cloves.
Claws, yessssssssss.
I would kill for a pair of claws on my thief.

I can think of two reasons:
1) Because gunblades are stupid, impractical weapons that don’t even make sense in a fantasy setting. Wielding a sword with a pistol grip is absolutely ridiculous. You’d break your hand and wrist trying. And the pistol grip doesn’t actually serve a purpose.
2) Because Square Enix would sue in a heartbeat.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
2) Because Square Enix would sue in a heartbeat.
Square doesn’t have any rights whatsoever to putting a blade on a gun, they existed in real life long before they put them in Final Fantasy.

That isn’t a gunblade. That’s a blade with a pistol welded onto it.
What the user above is referring to is a specific type of weapon in which a sword blade is fused with a pistol grip. This type of weapon was created by Final Fantasy 8. A few other big games have created such an item as a joking reference to FF8, but they needed Enix’s permission to do so. Ergo, ANet would at least need the company’s permission to implement such a weapon. And I don’t think that’s worth the time and effort wasted, because GW2’s fantasy setting strives for some degree of realism and there is nothing remotely realistic about the function of a gunblade.
