Suspicious mail in-game, watch out for them!
See sticky thread on this forum:
I fail to understand how anyone can “fall” for thoes mails…. I mean, come on, it litterely says at the buttom that it was sent by another player.
“Not sent by the GW2 team”
GG scamming trolls.
Think these ever actually get people?
yes, people don’t read the whole thing, getting scared by the first few lines. No one today takes the time to read…..TLDR is what is allows these scamming to prosper.
True story, I have heard about some people, who was pretty confused when they received the mail and didn’t know what to do. Luckily a few players always told them in time that it’s a trap, so none of the account got robbed. Still, this example shows us that players CAN be tricked if they don’t watch out carefully, and that’s why I made this topic.
They try so hard. So hard.
Ehh, a mail that says “Sent by a player” in a big yellow text at the bottom, with obviously faked link… well, I suppose someone could fall for that.
But my GF, who doesn’t speak that good English, was a bit puzzled when she got the following:
Title: “Instructions to Reset Password.”
Message: “Your credentials do not appear in our data base and we are unable to provide you with the information you seek. Please be advised that any additional requests for data without valid credentials could result in criminal charges, civil lawsuits, censure or sanction by the Arcane Council, revocation of your archive privileges, and a visit from one of our Legbreaker 500 credentialing enforcement golems.”
It appeared as Mail, wasn’t from a player so didn’t have bright yellow letters saying it’s a fake, and apart from few references to in-game characters (that could’ve been there just as a joke) seemed fairly authentic.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.

That letter is part of the Personal Story step she was doing at the time: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unwelcome_Visitors#Trivia
Just before it was sent she will have picked the “I have forgotten my access code” option on the console she had to hack to help Zojja.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

I know, but her not noticing the mail until few days later added to the puzzlement. You must agree, it looks a bit worrysome until you reach the last sentence.

A useful thing to remember here is that Anet will never warn you in advance if your account is going to be banned or suspended. If it does happen the first you’ll know about it is when you try to log in and can’t.
And if that happens you won’t have the option to click a link to reactivate it either. You have to contact Support to discuss why you were banned and persuade them to let you have the account back, usually by proving it wasn’t you who committed whatever activity got it banned.
