Suuuper slow
Pretty sure that had held on the expansion because of the model of living story, as the game progresses/changes every month! but I don’t think it’s proven that successful so hopefully they release an expansion soon with new maps, races, weapons, skills, and… Maybe UW? FoW?
Zerker will always be king regardless unless the condition cap is removed.
and if you want slow features lol you should check out the PvP sides! new features every 6-8 months and they are far from being polished, prob a week or 2 of work! and that’s being generous
Obviously you have never heard of firefall…
Seriously is it just me or production wise does anet move irritably slow?
The game took about six years since announcement to release. I’ve compared that length to a few other mmo’s and it is about double the amount of time.
It’s been about two years and devs haven’t even DECIDED on what to do about an expansion.
PVE system still not corrected. Zerker meta is still king
etc…etc..
It just seems rather slow to me. But that is just to me and my opinion is one in many.
SOOOO what do you guys think? Are they putting out features at an acceptable speed? Does the amount of polish make it ok at the rate they are putting out features?
Took them a year+ to add the heal skill from the tower that nobody uses. Give them time.
Oops I had sarc lock on.
And yet, a couple of months or so ago, the forums were full of posts commenting on how content was released at too fast a pace. What’s a development company to do? =/

I think that’s a part of the problem with the living story. You have no control on when it comes or when to do it. So if you are a new player still going through the learning stages of the game or even a semi new player going through mid levels of the game the living story may not be of interest to you at the time.
However with expansions YOU choose when to add that part on to the game and when YOU do that content.
I seriously think they need to rethink the living story and possibly make them re-playable somehow so that newer players or players that didn’t/couldn’t do them at the time can still experience it all, get the rewards and “have content to do”. It would also put more value into all that work that anet had done as well as it’s not “just gone and wasted”.
And as for SAB, that should be there permanent as well because it’s MORE CONTENT, again going to waste.

The living story is moving at an alarming speed. I’m not sure about the core game.
I remember hearing a developer from another game in pax east, a single raid dungeon would take them 6 month and 50 hours working week every week.
hearing comment like that makes me wonder how much thought is put in gw2 dungeon or combat overall.
and things I think they put much thought in to… are living story, which is temporary. eg, the airship area in bazaar of 4 wind, queen’s gauntlet, SAB, etc. Are all temporary, which could be permanent.
maybe there are big changes coming in expansion if they ever release ones. I’m wondering how gw2 will progress in the future.

The game took so long between announcement and release because they actually announced it the second they started working on it.
Most MMO’s aren’t announced until relatively far into development, hence why the time seems shorter between then and release.
Arenanet have consistently pushed out content at a far faster speed than any other AAA MMO I’ve seen…
They should have a guest server re-running season one while we wait for season two.

Not sure if the other game that I am playing is classed as a AAA game but it has been around 13 years now, has 30k+ ppl logged in at all times and at prime time can have anything from 50-100k+ and yet they manage to pump out updates now every single week.
Don’t get me wrong that is NOT what I expect from Anet and is certainly not I would want but I think it had to be said for some reason lol. I do have to say however that, that game does have a subscription for the most part yet people can still play a big chunk of it for free. Funny enough however ever since GW2 came out they have been changing the system to be a lot like Gw1/Gw2 and are even following in the footsteps with a store type system and allowing trading game currency for subscription and such type things.
Believe it or not I think GW2 HAS had an effect on the MMO industry and does have a helping hand in how that industry is changing despite what some people spout as the negatives of this game.
the thing is that we actually get a ton of new content in my eyes… But it’s all in vain since it’s temporary in my opinion… It’s really sad. Not that there is a big difference between creating permanent and temporary content, it’s more of a switch on their side whether they want to keep it or not…
GW2 took 5 years of full scale production, which began after EoTN’s release. Not anywhere close to 6.
4 years is a normal production cycle for most MMOS. WoW took over 4 years for its initial release.
GW2 took about a year longer than average, but released with a lot of content. More than average. And better quality stuff too. The dynamic events are way more detailed and interesting than the usual quests and have voice acting. That said, there were a lot of things they had planned that did not make it. There were some things that could have been done more efficiently and saved labor(branching story).
Still not bad.
The problem is that GW2 is now almost 2 years old. Let’s compare that to GW1’s evolution.
- 1 year from the release of Prophecies(GW1) was Factions
- Only 6 months from the release of Factions was Nightfall
- 10 months after the release of Nightfall was EoTN
Where is the GW2 content equivalent of Factions and Nightfall? By now they would be halfway through the production of EoTN. Does the the Living story up to this point have that much content?
Nah.

To be fair GW1 was far more horizontal progression based than GW2 is (a fact I personally lament), so it was absolutely necessary for them to put out more campaigns at a quick pace. There’s also the fact that GW1 could put out new content without it pulling players away from the old content, if GW2 were to release an expansion then the population on current maps, dungeons and story would drop to absolutely nothing.
So it is a bit of a predicament they are in. Release new content and pull players away from old content making the game less appealing to new players and making the world a lot less ‘living’ than it is – or stick with the current content while adding smaller additions progressively to keep the numbers steady.
