SweetFX and Co
Agreed; an official response would be great.
This isn’t going to accomplish anything. ArenaNet have already repeatedly explicitly stated that they won’t approve any third party programs/modifications. Instead, just check SweetFX against their guidelines, and decide for yourself whether you still want to use it.
The general guidelines are that mods are ban-able if they give the player using them some sort of advantage or allow them to automate gameplay. SweetFX does neither of these, therefore one assumes that it doesn’t violate their policies.
Simple enough, to be honest.

Pretty much this. But I don’t think everyone’s has had their fair share of beating the dead horse yet. . .
In all seriousness though, if it wasn’t okay that thread would have been locked and the link removed. The moderator stepped in, and although he couldn’t say it was “okay.” (Because officially it would be a bad move) He gave a pretty good hint that it is.
yup an answer from the devs would be appreciated.
I think if Anet SweetFX not want us to use, they somehow notifiaran us before it becomes banneable.
Currently there are many people using it, including myself, and the truth, in my opinion, the game looks much better.
After using this mod could not return to play the game without it, seriously.
Among other things: SMAA, better looking textures, sharpening, more or less saturated colors, bloom and hdr effects.
Greetings and sorry for my English!
20. You may not use any third-party program (such as a “bot”) in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering gold or items within Guild Wars 2. You may not assist, relay, or store gold or items for other players who are using these processes. — from the Rules of conduct
This is the most applicable, but I suggest looking at the full thing (it should only take about 10 mins to read at most). Basically as long as you’re not getting an advantage, and you’re not messing with the client, or messages to and from the server, in theory it’s OK. That said, I would personally steer clear of any 3rd party application.
I use SweetFX and it’s not bannible. It’s a DX injector, it does nothing to the code or the client communication with anet servers. It’s the same as using ATI or Nvidia settings to manipulate how the game looks. There’s no official word and i doubt there will be, since they won’t be supporting the client as long as you run it with an Injector. I would assume they’d rather not have people run it since it may increase the support ticket requests.
^ That. It’s quite similar as having to ask if I can use forced aa via my vendors driver software, or turning up the brightness on my monitor. They will never officially support it, nor should they.
Was gonna go on and on, but repeating munkiman will do me no good =D
Wanna to know too…
All it does is make the game look better. It gives you no advantage, you don’t hit harder, see through walls, fly, run faster, look smarter, have more HP, more power, or any thing else.
Now, the NVidia driver is another story altogether.
Oh, another program that people want a “Dev response” on if it’s bannible?
If you have to get a response, you most likely shouldn’t be using it in the first place.
Anyone got a link to an install (With instructions) while we’re on the topic of it? I haven’t had the chance to try it out and see if I’ll want to use it.
Read This – It is the official Guild Wars 2 Third Party Program Policy:

Let me give you the best answer you could possibly get…
For the umpteenth time, they will not vet, i.e. give an official response, to any specific third party application. Source:
Our development team is not able to review third-party programs to assess their components or give them any sort of approval.
Furthermore, let’s go over the following part of the aforementioned Third Party Program Policy:
The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.
Q: “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
A: The answer is obviously not “yes”. The answer is not even “maybe”. The answer is no.
Q:• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”

Furthermore, do note that no one has reportedly ever been banned for using SweetFX or similar SMAA injectors. The large and ever-popular thread about SweetFX has never been closed, although staff have acknowledged it and there are even a couple staff posts in that very thread.
Guild Wars 1 has the ever popular Texmod which even has its own official wiki page! It’s even more ‘questionable’ than SweetFX as, from what I’ve seen, actually modifies the client files, which SweetFX does not.
There are mods for GW2 that are much more questionable than this (namely Combat Mode), though even still, no one has reportedly ever been banned for using them.
Based on the above information, most people will deduce that using SweetFX will not get you banned.
asking if sweetFX is bannable is like asking if its bannable to use a better graphics card with better colors and faster gpu…. Combat mode on the other hand could be…but knowing Anet they would put out of the forums anything related with those mods..so They dont delete the threads meaning its on a green zone and safe at least for now.
I use both and i couldnt play anymore without em…
this is same as nvidia inspector or direct nvidia / ati software
if I am not mistaken its work same way as origin / xfire / steam overlay
also I been using it for long time …

Pretty sure programs that did nothing more than change the FoV would fit as doing nothing but manipulate how the game looks. They are against the rules though.
FYI, I emailed the GW2 Support Team about SweetFX and this is the reply I got:
Greetings James,
It is against the User Agreement to do anything at all which alters the core files you receive as part of a download or patch. The software you are referring to adjusts something to change the graphics. By the definition given, it would be safe to assume its not a program you should be using. Furthermore, because you really have no idea where that software came from, its not wise to run it at all. Hackers flood the Internet with software which reports back personal information. Once your information is obtained your account, characters and loot become at risk. It is highly recommended that you never run any 3rd party applications designed for Guild Wars 2.
The use of 3rd party software can and will lead the overall termination of the account. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

what you get is average reply that you get on all games …. do not download things you do not trust… this is safe and will not get you banned if I am right then if they ban sweetfx they will ban about everyone who is using steam xfire origin or even graphic card software to force better AA

Hey all, allow me to quote Gaile Gray relating to this and all third-party programs:
ArenaNet cannot approve or review or “vet” any third-party programs. Our general policy is that anything that gives advantage is forbidden; anything that imbalances the game in favor of one player over another is strictly disallowed. With that said, we are aware that some utilities help players without impacting others, that is, they do not give anyone an advantage over someone else.
Our development team is not able to review third-party programs to assess their components or give them any sort of approval. We make our policies clear in our User Agreement, Rules of Conduct, and the Conduct Breaches and Outcomes document, which you can find in the Legal Documentation section of our website: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ You should know the following:
1. If you chose to use any third-party program, you do so at your own risk.
2. We cannot offer support if the third-party program impacts Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 and, for instance, makes the game unplayable.
3. If you choose to use what you believe to be a “benign,” or non-advantage-giving program, be sure to get it from a legitimate source to protect yourself from the possible addition of cheats or key-loggers.
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”
If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy. In the future, we will be working directly with the community to develop app support for Guild Wars 2, so stay tuned for more info!
This is our only stance on this matter. I’m sorry but we cannot and will not investigate third-party software to declare it safe or unsafe, as this takes away resources from our primary responsibilities. If you choose to use third-party software, you do so at your own risk.
