So I recently started using swords and notice that only a few of them feel good due to the fact of how the character holds it. Usually the hand is placed closer to the guard but in gw2 most of the time we are holding sword at the end of the hilt… this seems really weird to me, and makes the sword look unappealing to use. I’ts almost as I’m swinging a fancy stick. Balthazar, Crimson lion, Phoenix, Fractal, Aetherrized, Wintersday and Jade sword are a few of the sword that look and feel good in terms of aesthetics. I really hope arenanet moves the position of the the sword so the hand is closer to the guard.

Just buy a total makeover kit and choose the biggest hands possible, problem solved.

I’m sure this isn’t a serious reply, since this suggestion isn’t possible. Even if you mean making your whole character larger, weapons & bundles scale to character size anyway.

Knowing Wanze, this is a completely serious reply…and the problem isn’t hand placement, it’s that the hilts themselves are to long from the guard…shorten the hilts and the problem is solved.

I just checked all swords in my wardrobe and sword handling looks fine, as close as it gets to the guard.

Maybe OP should add some screenshots.

First two are an example of how swords should be held and the last two just seem silly.

I don’t see why it is a problem for you when your character is also a stick.

I would just like to remind you that not all swords are held close to the hilt in real life.

Think of it as a swordfighter’s trick. You deal a couple of blows with the hand as close to the hilt as possible. When your opponent has gotten comfortable with your range, you sneakily slide your hand to the end of the hilt and whack him with the couple of cm you just gained.
Another use for this handhold is to bait your opponent by making him think you’re not ready. Most of the fight between halfway skilled fighters is a psycho battle.
As fighting scenes in (online) games are completely and utterly without any relation to real fights anyways, I mostly just try to enjoy what is presented and go swing the pixels for fun. ;-)
Choose the look/weapon you like and roll with it, just ignore the rest…

I agree it looks strange, but not so strange that I expect them to prioritize fixing it.

I agree, the last two are holding sword to close to its pommel instead of closer to the crossguard where it should be properly held.
