[TP] What's causing the surge in Ecto supply?
RIP City of Heroes
Increased supply no doubt. Silverwastes is really good.
Salvaging the rare ornaments we were supposed to be getting back for the orphans?
Table Warfare Miniatures - Armatures, Custom Miniatures, Moulds etc.
It’s been like this since mid-November so it’s likely due to the loot bags containing rare weapons/armor. That’s the only change that I can think of as I doubt they increased the salvage rates.
Silverwastes and increased magic find on so many accounts might be the answer. I’ve gotten a number of exotics and rares playing there, much more than is usual for me. In addition I’ve gotten more rares from random drops than I used to now that my magic find is over 150%.
I saw the price plummet ever since silverwaste. Some of my guildmates says they get 100 ectos in a few hours there. I personally didn’t expeirence that. They must keeps flipping maps in order to do that. And as always people exaggerate a bit.
I saw the price of rare weapons drop a bunch, eg dagger, greatsword, staff… But for some reason price of precursor didn’t change much. I suppose those rare weapons from breech didn’t make enough supply to dent the precursor price.
I think some of tier 6 price drop also. So that might be something to keep precursor price high.
Silverwastes gave a huge influx of rares/ectos and I also thought that price would go up again, when wintersday went live.
I guess, there are enough people left farming sw atm or the influx from world bosses, which are done for dailies now, is enough to surpress the price.

I never understood why ectos were priced so high relative to say something like chili peppers. It’s outside my area of expertise, maybe and economist can post and explain it.
I have 237 Ectos, 0 Chili Peppers, 0 Sesame Seeds and 0 Clovers. It’s extremely easy to farm Ectos. I have no idea where to farm chili peppers. Chili peppers sell for like 27s!
(Lol, the only reason I’m using cooking ingredients for the compare is because I just recently power leveled cooking.)
Silverwastes is indeed really good. Another more recent factor that has to be considered is “Daily Exotic Crafter”, which has now popped up twice since Tuesday’s patch. A daily that rewards you with three globs of ectoplasm, and which can be done by anyone at all using Artificing 0 skill and some Luck from salvages, is surely adding a good amount of the supply chain. Players who might not normally fight a lot of world bosses or get a lot of rares have the ability to get three ectoplasms.

Their usage is why.
You can farm chili peppers in ascalon areas (eg. diessa) from those herb thingy plants. It’s RNG as to whether or not they give chili or garlic or thyme etc which is why their prices are so high.
Anyway, Ecto is used in almost like everything desirable. Exotic, ascended gear, a lot of high level sigils/runes, probably main source of T6 dust, legendaries (clovers, gift of fortune) and a lot of high end exotics (eg. anomaly) all require ecto.
SW chest farm.
WAIT FOR IT, nerf is coming at next patch, if something its too good to farm its nerfable.
I salvage appropriate level rares and sell off ectos daily but I was curious as the prices continue to fall. Last night was the first time I posted ectos for sale and were undercut massively in terms of price (several silver) as well as volume (several thousand) in a matter of an hour. It’s as if players can’t get rid of them fast enough like Wintersday skins.
So it’s due to the LS, should have figured. Thanks all.

SW chest farm.

I play SW regularly. It’s my favorite zone. In my experience, chests really dont give a whole lot of rares. My base magic find is at 103% so maybe its different with higher mf. In that zone I get most of my rares from the champions that spawn after the breach. There’s 5 on the map and they spawn twice. Once after the breach and once before the reset. Farming those, I’m pretty much guaranteed a rare.
yup, SW farm.. my once-in-a-while farming also manage to get a stack of ectos. the rares mainly comes from the breach. successful breach gives 3 rare bags.
Archeage = Farmville with PK

Now, if you want to get more rares…
After the breach, go into the Labyrinth and open the Nightmare Pods. If your instance gets successes at all three of the Labyrinth events, you’ll get a guaranteed bonus rare. You’ll also pick up champ bags in the smaller pods, and each 25 pods you open lets you open the Greater Pod in the center, which has another guaranteed rare inside. If you get a key from a successful breach and are skilled at dodging the wolves, it’s entirely possible to be able to open the Greater Pod three times in the 15 minute maze run.
Far more profitable than killing ten champions over fifteen minutes on the surface.

I usually got 10-15 rares within 30 minutes, looking for a taxi to a map with 50% completion on lfg tool, farming some events and chests until breach, finishing breach and doing the lab.
Apart from ectos, i also thought that t5 and t6 fine crafting mats would go up during wintersday because it doesnt really award any of those.
But demand for those also went down alot because everybody is using snowflakes now to craft rare weapons, exotic gear or level their crafting.
I wouldnt be surprised, if t5 fine mats fall under 2s this week, which would mean that farming profits in SW will be further diminished.

There was also the Mad Kings Labyrinth which gave a lot of rares and exotics.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Basically, the SW gives out rares as a high % of its loot. The SW is worse than other farms for t6 mats or silver/trash loot but drops rares at a high rate.
All of the bandit chests, rares given out on breeches (that breach hoppers spam), rares given for labyrinth success, guaranteed rare from the bandit champion, bonus magic find in the zone…
It was crazy to have ecto prices around 44s when rare buy orders were 20-30s.
Precursor prices should drop next.

Most precursor prices have already continously dropped since September, when the LS season 2 began, due to high output of t5 common and fine mats in Dry Top, SW and Halloween lab.

Don’t forget all accounts get free ectos when the crafting exotic daily is available. Well it’s only really free if you craft luck for the daily. If they nerf anything ecto related, I would suppose this would get it to.
I guess I should mention that making ectos cheaper makes rares cheaper makes precursors cheaper makes people QQ less. Introducing a 12% more time efficient ecto farm will have a chain reaction up to precursors. These are the subtle things Anet can do other than the brute force “hur dur increase precursor drop rates” to keep prices stable.
It’s definitely Silverwastes. It’s so bad, I sell the rares instead of salvaging them for ectos. The rares bring me more silver than the ectos now. If you kill all five bosses, you’re guaranteed at least three rares.
This adds up fast if you’re jumping from breach to breach.
And then you’ll kill three champions while waiting for the maze to open. So, you’ll usually get another rare or three. And then you get more rares from the Nightmare chest if you’ve killed all five bosses.
Again, adds up fast.
I’m also throwing all my greens into the Mystic Forge for rares, I’m sure I’m not the only one doing this. The loot bags make it very easy stack things up for forge visits without causing inventory problems.
My guess is that, along with the increased farm, there are simply more players done with their gear and craft grind who are no longer buying the ectos. The hardcore players are post-ecto, they’re after lodestones or Giants Eyes or the other rare, more scarce items.

How do cheaper ectos make rare weapons cheaper?

seems to me that the 2 biggest demand factors for all rares are forging for pres and salvaging for ecto
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
Every time The Breach event completes everyone on the map gets 4 Rare items – this is ignoring any others from chance.

I know that. I fail to see though, how these 2 are connected because the value of a rare weapon, depending on type, is either determined by the price of the corresponding precursor and its crafting costs OR by its salvage value, never both.
So a falling ecto price might influence the bottom line of rare weapons of undesired precursors, who get salvaged rather than forged but in that case, the precursor is already available on the tp under the average cost of forging it.

It could be a byproduct of the new monthly reward introduction, too, as well as a bump in player hours with the holiday.
