Don’t know if this should be posted here but hey why not. Well I just came back from 2 TT tries and both failed thanks to mesmer trolls by putting down portals and lot’s of wooden swords and the like.

The first try the mesmer trolled at cobalt which prevented the bombs from being picked up.
The second try the mesmer trolled at amber and prevented the harpoon from being picked up.
This is really frustrating and annoying. Why anyone would do this? Beats me. But I would like to suggest that Anet actually do something about it. For one there is no good reporting for griefing as far as ive seen. I believe the best solution would be to create some sort of no portal/placeable item junk zone’s on this boss so as to prevent the trolls from ruining the game.
Wasted 1 hour doing TT now and im sorely disappointekitten

he only one with this feedback or are there more? And moreover is this too hard for Anet to do? Or is there some other more plausaible solution?

Thanks

EDIT: My text seems strange. Disappokitten and he something something. Just me? :P

Came here to post about the same events. It’s really aggravating to lose 2 organised and well-lead runs because of trolls who seem to enjoy spoiling other people’s fun :/

Could you do something about it, ANet? (I don’t have specific suggestions because I don’t know what’s possible to implement.)

Wow, that looks -very- frustrating. I would probably report via in-game if you see them actively doing so.

Also I just played around with the filter to see what triggered it. It seems you said “disappointed.” followed by “Am I the only one” and it filtered out the ‘d’ on one line and the ‘Am I t’ on the next.

I’m assuming we are looking at bundles being dropped to prevent pickup of important bundles? I can think of a few ways to solve this but I’ll have to defer to /u/CrystalRaid on this.
I’ll have a chat with the GM team next week to see if they can look into the mischievous players here”

LMFAO that is fantastic, even better is that we will put it off response.

That is some quality work there though, should admire these multiplayer interactions for it wont be long until games become online single players.

What exactly do you expect to happen? He said he has some ideas, but he’s not the coder and the coders don’t return until Monday. He’s also going to look at the logs to see if ANet can identify the trolls and apply some sort of proportionate response to their actions.

Would you rather that they just reflexively disabled everything in the game that could interfere with TT? Or that they figure out some sort of long-term response and see if they can make it happen quickly.

I definitely hate that people take advantage of the game’s mechanics to spoil things for others. But I think we’d all hate it worse if ANet reacted hastily and caused something worse to happen for more people.

This is almost a repeat of what happened a few months ago when people realized they could drop so many bundles of something on a map to crash out everyone playing on that map.

Not sure what can be done about portals since that’s a player skill. It really comes down to the commander leading and telling people to wait out the portal cooldown, then pick up kegs when it goes away.

The dropping things though should be looked at. Never seen this wooden sword thing, but people dropping merchants/food right on the harpoon/kegs leads to failed runs. A no drop zone around these items/locations is needed.

I’d rather people not be overly sensitive – so a player did a little trolling to break up the monotony big deal the event will be back. The smallest harmless actions offend players who in return want blood – you might as well just be playing an online single player game with a heavily censored chat so that safespaces are kept intact.

It’s rather entertaining to send people into the lava after megadestroyer or to their icy death behind the ice wall at jormag.

LOL really? you don’t find that response entertaining? Where the typical anet “we will look into it” means weeks later and thats as he stated IF he even remembers next week to bring it up – most likely meaning at worst a silly warning but thats very doubtful as wvw has been dealing with this type of action since forever

We get it; you enjoy trolling. Not everyone else does. Wanting to be able to complete one of the tougher-to-complete events doesn’t equal wanting “safespaces” or warrant being told to play single-player games instead.

I don’t think it’s being overly sensitive to feel that your time has been wasted by a troll. It wasn’t “harmless” — the success of the event is put at risk.

It’s rather entertaining to send people into the lava after megadestroyer or to their icy death behind the ice wall at jormag.

Entertaining for you, maybe. While still trolling, that at least doesn’t risk anyone worse than the waypoint cost.

You have no idea what it means. I have no idea what it means. I can only go by Cleary’s posting history, which suggests that he’ll both follow up on it and that he’ll take some sort of action and that there’s a good chance that he’ll let us know about it.

Regardless, my question was: what do you think should have been the response from ANet? Was Cleary supposed to say, “ah, don’t sweat it; just a few trolls — you can try again in a few hours.” Or: “sure, we’ll shut down the game now, and call everyone back to work after a stressful week, so we can fix this before Monday.”

One way I can immediately think of is to stop having “f” be default for EVERYTHING.

According to the Reddit thread it wasn’t “a little trolling.” It was some sort of infighting over several events where people used this event to get back at other people. From other people’s comments further down it was several ex(?) guild members getting back at guildies commanding and playing at these events.

From that thread

Hestebridge

As someone who can speak for the “Trolls” I want to point out that what is being called “Trolling” is actually protesting. Now this may seem like a tenuous argument, however, I want to stress that this is NOT trolling for a wurm. The events that have been unfolding for the past week have been 100% due with infighting to-do with the dysfunctioning community. While a few people may have come to the event to simple “have fun trolling” the majority of the people there were doing so to force the people running the community to start listening to the issues that a large portion of its members feel; a portion who feel there was nothing left that could be done.

To stress, the issues that sparked this were NOT done to troll the normal people on the event and many of the people, including myself, felt pretty terrible for the “common pug”. Sadly, it was collateral damage.

I also want to point out that this is likely over now. It is likely that no one will want to hear my point now but I would suggest going to ts.gw2community.com or heck even ts.psdh.eu

Apologies again. If one thing, as someone who has actually commanded this event 100s of times, hopefully areanet will get rid of these bugs/issues with the event mechanics. (Including invisibility on kegs making them get removed)

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I miss GM’s in game where they would just permaban people for this sort of thing.

I don’t care if they think they were “protesting” or were morally right…who cares. Not everyone has all the time in the world to play. What they did was ruin an event for a lot of players. This is the sort of thing that gives people, especially newer players, a bad taste for the game. Doesn’t help that it’s an event that really requires everyone to be involved and pay attention and has a lot of mastery points tied to it.

Putting a single box of fun near an npc in a city…seems like harmless fun. Putting the obnoxious crap down that the screenshot shows is not. I hope they just start kicking the trolls out for good. It would go a long way to improving the game.

I agree that certain things should have a “no drop” zone near them. It’s not the first time I see such type of thing: Box-o’fun on top of merchants, vistas (recently it happened to me at vista on daily, luckily the game gave me the Interact from vista and not from box, but still) etc… merchants or food/banners scattered near and around big bosses where it would make it hard to help people to rally… portals being placed under NPCs or important interactable stuff…

Maybe a simple solution would be yes to make a “no-drop” zone just one or two feet away from these things, or even to cause the item (portals, boxes, etc) to slightly move by itself when attempted to be placed on these areas. In fact, such mechanic already exist: try to put more than one merchant in a small area and see what happens.

Anyway, either it was “protesting” or not, it disrupted people that had nothing to do with it, and yes, in this case that’s like trolling. One have the right to protest but for that they have no rights to disrupt those not involved with the issue. It’s like causing someone to lose their job just because they got at work late due facing a protest on their way to there (I could go even further on this comparison).

That costs money, while the new corporate model is to screw over the customers with a shoddy product and bad service while charging them as much as you can until they give up and leave, then just move your money into another “venture”.

Eh, I’d say a better solution is to have more than just the F key be used for interacting with things. Then no matter what players think of, the players can get around it by adjusting their keybinds.

Maybe Anet can use the special key feature so that when you enter amber you just have to use special key in order to use harpoon instead of picking it.
Same thing for bombs, when you are around barrils, you automatically pick a bomb and you have to use special key to use it. This will solve issues with trolls

Edit: Apparently someone else has already given the idea at reedit.
