Hi,

So, my brother and I have been playing various RPGs for ever and ever. I finally got a Mac that can handle this game and he’s about to get an account. We’ll probably dabble in all the professions and races.

But—for old time’s sake, we’ll probably resurrect some version of our old AD&D characters from decades gone by to play together (his will be a bowfighter Human Ranger, mine will be a air/fire Human Elementalist). We’d be interested in doing the most nostalgic, throwback-type RPG storyline there is (medieval architecture, ogres and troll type adversaries, dungeon crawling, dragons, more emphasis on magic than commerce, treasure above sappy romance). Any advice?

(Note: I know that the Sylvari storylines sometimes go to Arthurian places, but the aesthetic is just too different to evoke the kind of nostalgia we’re after. Humans is where it’s at for these 2.)

Will appreciate any feedback! Go gamers!

I.. don’t think you’ll be able to enjoy that kind of classic rpg experience in GW2’s Tyria. GW’s Tyria was a world of magic, rituals and Gods. GW2’s Tyria is a mix of fantasy and sci-fi – definitely NOT a high fantasy setting. The dragons have been consuming the world’s magic. Still, if you decide to give it a go.. I’d probably choose as your personal storyline path:

Street Rat [or Commoner]
Unknown Parents [or Dead Sister]
Priory [or Vigil]

and try maps such as Wayfarer Foothills, Queensdale, Harathi Hinterlands, Brisban Wildlands, Timberline Falls, Fireheart Rise and Frostgorge Sound.

I think Norns are probably the closest race to what you’re describing actually, but you still won’t be able to avoid laser guns and golems.

Thanks! I realize it’s an imperfect match, but we’re an imaginative team. Thanks for the pointers!
