I’ve only been playing less than a hundred days and just in that time, I’ve had a score of amazing, unexpected and often funny experiences. It got me wondering what kind of crazy adventures other players have seen or been part of? I don’t mean the big scripted events, but the little ones when things just unexpectedly ..happen.
Here are some of mine. They may seem trivial or lame but to a new player to gw2 (and also mmo’s) these were memorable events to me:

1. In WvW one time, I got separated from the train and started being chased by one enemy player. I wasn’t that good or confident so I kept running. Eventually, I came across that bridge over the airport and decided to make a stand or die trying. I ran at him doing my best Braveheart impression … when he jumped over the rail and down to the airport. I thought I’d scared him off … then I saw the massive zerg from the third server that was following him. O_O Total Han Solo moment.

2. My first Shatterer. I’d just heard about world bosses and kitten was my first dragon (I’d previously done only SB and FE). The big shiny dragon was amazing enough… but receiving a dragon box afterward, with an ascended staff….. speechless. The RNG gods are truly mysterious.

3. Just wandering about Tyria, discovering new areas, was everything I wanted in an mmo. I have fond memories of scaling snowy peaks to see the breath-taking view, crossing rivers of fire.. and especially that moment when I reached Fireheart Rise where the fire falls from the sky. I just had to pause and gape. This game needs postcards, so you can take a picture and send it to someone with the message “Wish you were here.”

4. In WvW another time, I was wandering about solo when I saw an enemy player ahead, about thirty metres away. Then more enemies. I stood still.. and began to back away slowly. To my surprise they just ran by, on their way to somewhere. Maybe they didn’t notice me.. maybe I wasn’t worth their time. Who knows. But the feelings of shock, dread, surprise, and relief packed into that moment… priceless.

5. My computer is somewhat at the lower end of machines capable of running GW2, so sometimes scenery and monsters don’t load in straight away. Lag has put me in some weird situations. One time, on a train in EOTM, I was running past a generator and lagging badly when the game skipped… and put me inside the generator. I could see out but couldn’t get out. It was frustrating to watch the train disappear.. but also very funny.

6. In another case of lag, I was involved in a fight in some frog village and had to run back and forth through the village between two positions (I don’t remember why now). I thought I’d found a shortcut through the village and was curious why nobody else seemed to be taking it. When the fight was over and the scenery loaded in, it turned out ….there was a wall where I’d been running through. O_o

7. I was standing in the corner of a village somewhere (no, I don’t remember which one) just resting when a couple nearby started to flirt with each other before rushing into their house in what was clearly going to be an amorous encounter. It’s little things like that which make this game feel alive. And, no, you can’t hear anything by listening at the door.

Well… I have one interesting tale.

I reflect for triple trouble regularly. As a reflector, I’ve kind of taken it upon myself to announce in squad chat who the reflectors are, and also to direct whenever eggs get out or when we die. However, I also use this squad chat to make jokes on occasion. They’re usually silly jokes, like how you have to rub the char’s belly or he won’t reflect for you, or a bunch of extreme weeabo references.

So one day, I crossed a line. I didn’t know this was a line, but I crossed it. The message in squad chat was the following: “Hello everyone, (name) and I will be your reflectors today. I apologize if any eggs get out, since I’m refusing to call until (name) admits that Rainbow Dash is the best pony”. Something to that effect. Apparently this joke was funny to some, since there were a couple of hilarious messages in chat to the line of “appleponi is the best poni” and “(name) says that rainbow dash sucks”. Little did I now that this struck a nerve with some people, because then what followed was an extremely lengthy and heated agument/trollfest over MLP:FiM.

Now I am memser reflect, and I was on cobalt wurm that day. Its an easy wurm: 35 seconds between eggs unless the damage phase interrupts, eggs proceed husks. You can practically AFK it. So, I spent the entire duration of that wurm arguing with people in map chat, defending MLP:FiM. Or rather, talking down anyone who was arguing against it. This was not a short ordeal: this was easily 25 minutes straight of fighting. Or… something like fighting. Either it was a purposeful trolly argument, or some people really hate MLP:FiM and thus deserved the rage they got. While my wurm was a successful decap, another wurm unfortunately failed.

I sold my loots and left the map as usual, but not before dropping this little gem in the flames: “It sounds like you all need a lesson in friendship. Luckily I know where you can get a few”. The next day, I was being referred to as the brony, and my squadchat joke was: “I’ll try to stay away from any hot-button topics, like politics or children’s television shows”.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

In EotM, I once got somehow transported into a tower structure above the courtyard of the arid fortress. I had positioned myself on the ledge alongside during the fight and just in the moment the ogre chief went down I was suddenly behind the walls. Could only watch my train leaving, before I even had the idea to port out. Originally I wanted to stay and wait for an enemy train to take over the keep, that would probably have been fun to watch from the inside. But it took too long and when our train came through again, I used the WP and joined up.

Another fun EotM moment was when we went to one of the diving goggles with the whole zerg. Oh, it was raining dead bodies left and right of the bucket, it was so funny.

I had just found the way to Dry Top and was looking for a way to get to the LW story area. Stumbled over a chest during the sandstorm, had a key from the Silverwastes and got one of those insects (for ambrite weapons). I didn’t even know what it was for until I wikied it.

Playing my new warrior in EoTM and getting in a rifle fight with another newbie. Me Asura, him Charr. It was so funny the way we were shooting at each other there for a while, not really managing to kill each other. I think he killed me in the end (he had a greatsword I only had some other dropped 2nd hand weapon), but I was still laughing minutes later. Those moments are the best (of course, in real PvP I wouldn’t have survived two seconds).
