Could you remove this option when we are in-combat?

It sucks when I’m looting and it starts a dialog with a nearby NPC. I know some quests require us to retrieve a few items to the NPC, so we will likely be in-combat, but aside from that, I don’t want to talk with them while fighting, and the dialog box can be very annoying.

The solution is to bind aoe loot to a key that is not the F key. I use J, for instance, and am in the habit of blindly tapping it a few times during a fight. That way I scoop up loot I didn’t even know was there and don’t get embroiled in conversations or rezzing NPCs.

For some reason you have to use F for big chests and have to be practically in the chest to have it work, but there are almost never any NPC’s by those.

It sucks when I’m looting and it starts a dialog with a nearby NPC…..

and
It sucks when I’m trying to loot the chest in SW labyrinth and I start to resurrect a player who doesn’t want to use the waypoint…
and
It sucks when I’m trying to resurrect a player and I pick a banner or start building a random siege or talk to a personal vendor/bank npc
and
It sucks when I’m trying to do something, anything, and I have to do hundred of little steps to position myself so i can interact with the object i want to, not the other one

It sucks when there are too many actions for a single F key.

I omitted stomp action because i don’t do pvp. I am sure there are not such issues.
The solution is to bind pvp and pvp on different keys, sometime

As above, go into options and put loot on one key and interact on another.

If there is more than one interactable person/thing close together, you can assign a key to ‘next ally’ and hit that to highlight different things in sequence and choose the one you want. Most useful when someone drops a banner, fun box, merchant, or food on top of another thing you want.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

“AOE Loot key”…… the game is entirely different with this setup.

I do rebind my loot key. However, what happens when you have to revive people?

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Then you use F. The whole point of the loot key is to make sure you don’t get stuck in longer actions while trying to gather loot in a moving fight. (Also it loots all the bodies near you, not one at a time).

It is still a problem if you’re trying to revive a player and a dead NPC keeps overwriting it, but the OP’s issue was with reviving or chatting when s/he just wanted the loot.

Yea, I gather that but it would seem that looting is just one of the issues and OP would just rather not talk to them at all during combat, because that is just not a good thing in combat.

Its not just looting when it comes to talking to them. I have noticed that during some dungeon runs that the priority of actions is kinda iffy.

Example, running HoTW path 1 NPC runs into the bossroom and gets his kitten shot off, and dies in 10 seconds. One of my party members makes the mistake of going down near npc, I rush to res them and find myself resing the NPC instead of the party member.

Anet Logic: Res an NPC who is just gonna die again in 4 seconds over an actual player.

/sigh

Also trying to pick up badly placed Ice bows and such can be a pain while in combat if an an NPC is dead or standing near them.

Yes, this is actually the main problem, game priority. The F key should prioritize your actions this way:

Instant Loot > Res Party Member > Res Random Player > Activate Object > Bundle (Gunk, Skull, Conjures, etc) > Res NPC > Regular Loot (Window) > Talk with NPC

And I appreciate the AoE Loot key bind, very helpful. I had the AoE Loot enabled, but didn’t know there was a special key exclusive for loot.
Thanks
