Watching the Guild Wars 2 livestream from Twitchcon today and seeing the band playing really made me wish there was more of an emphasis on social gathering areas in Guild Wars 2. Taverns/pubs that are already in the game would be SO awesome if there was a band-score playing inside of them. I certainly would find myself hanging out in them very often! Thoughts?

There is a band playing at the Crow’s Nest Tavern in LA, but I agree that it would be cool to have a few more throughout Tyria!

I agree this would be a good idea.

Although I also find it somewhat amusing because my other MMO – Elder Scrolls Online frequently does have bands, or individual musicians, playing inside taverns and people who spend a lot of time there use mods to mute them because they get sick of hearing them.

But maybe there’s a good middle ground? Like having them on a loop where they play a song, take a break, play a song etc. Or they could be muted using the instrument slider so everyone has the option of shutting them off if they want to.

I loved the way WoW handled inns and taverns. You are in the middle of nowhere, hours from the nearest city, you come across a cozy tavern with some nice music to rest and talk with other players. And because resting in an Inn actually gives an exp boost, lets you teleport and has a usefull merchant it’s actually useful to hang around there for a while.

Unfortunately since you can teleport everywhere instantly in gw2 that concept doesn’t really work. No real need to stay in an inn when you can instantly teleport to the big cities no matter where you are.

Used to love Taverns in Dungeons & Dragons Online, since it was the only place you could regain life/mana, change spells etc, it was natural gathering spots, also the rez spots if you died. Wouldn’t want to incorporate any of that into GW2, but it did make the Tavern’s into social spots in that game.

Came here to post this!

I mentioned something similar in the audio section when a Dev asked me, but a few hours after I posted my reply, the whole audio forum clossed, so I’m not sure if he ever read my reply.

Currently the music appears to be bound to an area and it doesn’t change when you enter caves, taverns or houses. Also there appears to be a bug, and the track doesn’t stop playing when you WP so you end up reaching areas with inappropriate music playing. As a reasult the music ends up becoming very monotonus.

These simpler versions of the themes are perfect for homes of the individual races and bases where you are supposed to feel secure.

JS music sounds generic after a while.

…and don’t be toxic!
