Well….for the most part solo. On the other hand some of my most favorable times where with other people.

It really depends on who you hook up with.

I mostly like solo but would love to find a guild or group of people who talk (type) now and again in game chat. I really don’t like to be on teamspeak or some such voice channel because it’s so………much.

I also prefer to go solo. My experiences with group/team content has been more bad than good and I play this game to relax, not to deal with more jerkholes since I have to deal with them enough in real life.

Playing GW2 for the story is like expecting plot in a porno. You’ll be left disappointed.

Solo. Well, I do like to do some group content both in the open world and in instances, but there are just too kitten many people who get a kick out of being horrible to others, be it in PUGs or in organized groups.

I’ll admit I’m more of a soloer, but I doubt I’d still be in the game if I didn’t have guildmates or consistent people to do dungeons, etc with. I tend to be focused on my dailies and other personal goals first, but once I’m done with those, I make myself available.

Many alts; handle it!

Pretty much my game play. I will add that my guildmates are in a friendly first guild, so we have few structured events, as in guild mission times and preferred nights for dungeons and fractals. So I can solo first, and join in with friendly guildmates when I’m in the mood to group up.

Mostly solo and just dynamically teaming up for big events. With a laid back guild though so we can either guild chat or team up for things like instances and specific HPs.

For those who don’t understand people who want to play solo in a multiplayer game……… I wouldn’t want the game to have only myself in it. That would be boring to me. I like being able to talk with people, ask questions, say hi. I like seeing others running around in the world. And yes I like grouping up to take down a world boss.

But while questing and running around leveling I like solo. I like to be able to go where I want at the pace I want without having to slow someone else down. I like not having to wonder which direction my group or partner is going. At the same time I’ll be one of the first to go help someone when they ask in chat for help. I’ll help but then go on my way solo again. ;-)

It seems part of the confusion is solo v group. I highly doubt many people are 100% one or the other. It is more about where you fall between those two extremes.

I prefer solo but once in a while I do like teaming up with someone as it opens up some aspect of exploration.

Played a mission in GW1 the other day and that game I did mostly with heros. But I saw a person there and so I invited them to party and we completed it and several other missions as well.

This is how I feel about it, as well. I prefer to do things on my own, but I don’t avoid people, either. And if someone asks for help in the open world, I will almost always go lend a hand. But, generally speaking, I will be doing stuff solo.

Not trying to “sidestep” the question but I like both, however I hate to be forced to do either to achieve things. I understand for Meta events but Hero Points and Masteries should not be tied to forced teaming of content.

I have a super small guild we spend as much time chatting about real life while gaming in TS. I really enjoy playing and talking to folks from all over the world. That’s what I like about the multiplayer side over solo.

I can’t say I ‘prefer’ one over the other, honestly. It depends on what I ‘feel like’ at the time.

I do typically play “solo” though not always by choice. Sometimes I don’t have guildies or friends on that want to play what I’m playing, as such, I end up alone when I would rather have company. Conversely, there are times where I would rather be by myself, and end up with others anyway just due to how the game is set up. shrug

I do participate in things like Fractals or WvW, and I do enjoy pugging at times. Like I said, it just depends on my mood. The wonderful thing about games is that when I feel burnt out dealing with people, I can just ‘turn them off’ and satisfy the introverted need for solitude to recharge. That’s much more difficult to do (and explain) in real life situations haha.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I mostly play solo, but I do enjoy the option for teams.

I think the matchmaking needs to be a little cleaner for team compositions.

In general I think teams of 5 or 4 shouldn’t fight teams of solos, but honestly I don’t think they have a great way to balance this… A team of 5 can be great, with voice communiation. Take that away, and its pretty much 5 players who enjoy playing together.

My favorite games were beating down full premades. That moment a group of soloers find a weakness in the team of 5’s strategy, and begin to out rotate them. The thing about teams of 5, there is usually a bit more clarity on who does what, so they are in that way, more predictable.

I loved beating them, but it’s true you lose more against a full premade…

Not sure the right solution, but I think blocking teams entirely for another season would be a mistake.

This is kind of a confusing question. A couple years ago I was the only player there when the golem world boss came up. It scaled down properly and I was about 60 seconds from soloing it when 2 players came along and helped finish it.
Playing solo is more an attitude of not wanting to delay others, or have them delay us. We pick our goal and try. Actually playing content solo is kind of rare. Seldom is it finished solo. But we didn’t have to be delayed with grouping and others preparation and we don’t delay them. Time is important. Standing around waiting and preparation delay is the single biggest complaint displayed over group play. I get ready and start content with the expectation that eventually others will join, but it’s ok if they don’t.
So yes, I am also a solo player, ……. to start with.

Massively multiplayer means nothing more than lot’s of players in the game, period. None have to play anything together but they can. Anything else is simply personal opinion, based on preference. The game encourages group play but there is no requirement or serious expectation of that happening.

Which reminds me of something utterly horrible in the realm of achievements:

Party achievements where no one is allowed to screw up. It’s cruel, it invites anger, and it’s not reflective of an individual’s skill.

I don’t want to be the guy who screws that up for someone else, and I don’t want someone else screwing it up for me. (To a lesser extent, not CCing on Vinetooth. I’m doing my job, y’all do yours. :\)

Solo. WvW roaming and thief sniping. Gank the zergling gankers before they make their move.

In PVE, I still prefer to go it alone, but the ‘boss’ monsters can’t be soloed. Teq doesn’t go down 1v1.

Mostly solo, its just easier and more relaxing. I’ve had my share of waiting around for others and in gw2 its generally no problem to ask for help when I need or to help out if others need.
As to why I like to play a mmo, its like going out for a coffee, or to a pub for a drink. It would be no point if theres noone else around. I can sit alone with my beer and just watch people having a good time, or I can look for someone to share a few drinks and some conversation. I dont have to talk or share a beer with everyone in the pub to enjoy it, though that may or may not have happened in my younger years..

Depends on the content I currently play. However, I dearly miss henchmen (specifically using my other PCs as hero companions). I can imagine quite a few areas where that would be fun, especially while roaming the country and exploring.

Solo, with the inevitable running into other people doing the same thing. I’m okay with that as long as we don’t have to get all chatty about it.

This is unfair question this mmorpg atleast in allot of the open world does not require true team tactics like you might see in an older like mmorpg or a true team based game, I prefer team.

Grouping up to take down world bosses and assisting others who ask for help in chat doesnt sound much like a glorified chat roo as much as it does an MMORPG.
