So, has anyone else noticed that these events are just vastly inferior to the retaking event in EVERY possible way? They’re less epic, they don’t reward you at all, and they’re pretty much soloable.

Anet really needs to just make the events (Especially the lyssa one) auto fail and go immediately into the retaking event. It would do nothing but improve the temples all around. That or make it so the Risen Priest(ess) attacks during the defend event and you need to defeat them as well as the risen they bring with to invade, and then you get rewarded the same as you would for an attacking event. However, that’d be a much more difficult feat i’d imagine and it’d be a lot easier to just set the defend event to auto fail the second it hits.

Anet has said time and time again that failing an event should never be what you want to do, but this simply isn’t true for a lot of the temple events, especially for lyssa, now that it’s tied to an achievement where you can ONLY get that item from that temple.

Orr events were rushed due to creeping deadlines prior to launch. Thats no secret.

The problem I think you’re citing is the nature of Defense events… which is basically hoard mode. Attacks are more fun because they involve more movement, generally have more parts, and (for Orr) tends to include Siege elements somehow. If the defense included more siege elements, deployable traps, Bundle weapons, etc, they’d be pretty entertaining.

But its too late for Orr. Orr’s event scripting hasn’t changed since year one (if even that), and any modifications they’ve made have been timer breaks or skill modifications….. no actual event scripting changes.

I don’t mind the events as is for the most part, the problem is that the attack evens are flat out more rewarding in every aspect than the defense events. Additionally the defense events are easy enough to solo so that one person can completely deny everyone else the rewards that are exclusive to the attack event because they soloed the defense event.

This is simply the PvE version of what’s wrong with WvW right now. Got bored with the mindless running around flipping strongholds with no intention to hold on to them, and switched to the much more intensive Conquest sPvP.

I guess ArenaNet recognizes this problem by addressing it in the HoT expansion for WvW, and if you noticed, in Silverwastes, there’s no defense event at the end of the meta-events chain. Vinewrath dies, there’s a cooling period, and the whole chain starts again. Guess they just wanted to invest the resources in Living Story Season 2 rather than fix existing content. So can’t say they aren’t aware of the problem.

At this rate, I really wouldn’t mind supporting a subscription model for GW2. It seems their reach often falls short of their imagination due to limited resources and it’s a pity given how much better the game can be.

I personally don’t mind that they’re taking care of new content first, but this isn’t a game like WoW where old content can just die the second an expansion comes out. Because of this I really hope they actually fix some of the glaring issues with the older content to bring it a little more up to speed, it’s greatly increase the replay ability of content.
