Temporary Content
I have your attention so lets see how long this thread will last before getting deleted.
I don’t see how people can enjoy the slew of temporary content in this game, it is unfair to new, casual and completionist players and it is a blatant cash grab.
- New players at low levels and players with a small amount of time to spend in game can not complete many of these activity for multiple reasons for the achievements and rewards, not to mention the talked about Achievement reward ladder incoming making it a double slap in the face.
- They are creating scarcity and timed events to get you in to game and on the cash shop and then to sell you RNG boxes on top of that, blatantly shoving a hand in your wallet. With the content incoming faster now they are getting that many more chances to hit on something you will want to get money from you.
-Throw away content, the game barely has any new content since launch because all of it has been thrown away and is in the trash never to be seen again, and the content we do get is kill x amount of z and go and “F” 250 of these 3 things.
What happened to a company making a quality game and expecting people to love it and pay for it. All we have now is Mediocre games attempting to cloak a cash grab so they can make money before consumers wise up.

It would be nice to have more permanent content. However one thing I don’t agree with is saying temp content is a cash grab. I have yet to buy anything in this game with real money. If people are feeling forced to buy items with cash I would say some self control is in order before anet is blamed for someone’s lack of self control. :/

Correct there are no “forced” buys, but it still reeks of greed and cash grabing to push this lazy content out faster to try and hit on more things that more people will find that they want to buy. If its quality then it is quality, you don’t need to do limited time scarcity tactics to try to push peoples buttons.

I kind of agree with the OP. It’s a pretty unsustainable and transparently greedy business model. Colin already said they’re planning more permanent content, so here’s hoping they are and it’s good.

IMO they really need to not only do this but maybe even make the older content in a way reoccurring, why cant these groups we have defeated in past content patches make a resurgence with new schemes to add in new content, dungeons and altering the past achievements so it is kill x of y (Old) or x of y (new different mob).
You would be giving more players more chances at old rewards and achievements, and pulling out the underhanded scarcity and limited time only underhanded tactics, you would also show that you truly care for the enjoyment of the players instead of constantly shuttling them off to never to be seen again content time after time again.
We have had a very small amount of Dev input and information on this front, I understand it takes time, but when it does come out it needs to be clear, in depth and concise no matter what they decide to do, so players that are angry about the direction of the game can make a decision on if they want to stay or not and not hang in some state of limbo where they want to play but don’t want to at the same time.
The Living Stories is the new end-game since many ingnored the original end-game, Dynamic Events.
You have to remember Anet is a company. If a company isn’t profitable it closes.
Do you enjoy the game?
That is the real question that needs to be answered. If the answer is yes. Enjoy the ride
They are finally adding more and more permanent updates along with these patches. I was bleh before about it now I’m about at ‘ok’.

IF this is the “end game” then the game is in a sad state. In my opinion the PvP, mostly WvW is the only thign worth of an "end game’ title.
As to the do I enjoy the game question, I enjoy what it could be with some changes and some further worthwhile permanent content (Additional classes, weapon sets, utility, ect), with out those changes I am sorry but I don’t see any big reason to stay.

Well is it the PvE end-game.
As for the other items you listed those are expansion material.
If Anet holds form to how it did expansions with GW. Then we should see an expansion by the end of the year.
Remember this game is 10 months old while most MMOs don’t do expansion til a year and a half or later

OK I understand what you are saying now
Well I’m enjoying the temporary content despite it’s limited window of availability. I do think there should be a way for newcomers (and others) to get a recap of “the story so far”, but I don’t think that access to the associated rewards/achievements should be fully available for all time.
The only part of the content that seems like a “cash grab” to me is the RNG boxes, but I’m happy enough to ignore those and just get on with playing the game and enjoying myself.

One could easily argue that areas such as Southsun cove, Orr, and even Fractals and WvW are the designed end game, but the constant barrage of the “living story” is keeping players pulled away and doing other random things, to get achievements and limited time goodies.
While there is a lot of talk about a large block expansion I don’t believe I have seen any hints or posts from Anet employes stating that it is true or even in the pipe, if I am wrong on this please correct me and I will eat my words. But it still will not change my concerns or stance on temporary content.
Forgive my ignorance, but how is temporary content even a way to make money? The devs put int he work to release this awesome content, why take it away? I mean I see some things like events, invasions and all that stuff – but it seems so much effort is ut into content that is, as some termed it, thrown away.
It seems they could still put in work to give us permanent content, all while adding stuff to the gem shop and people will buy it.
More dungeons, lower level ones too. Anet makes a kitten fine game and a lot of this content is really awesome, don’t just trakitten. Again, much of this stuff is awesome and Anet could load up that gemstore with even more goodies and people will buy.
Even if Anet made an expansion and sold it for 10 dollars… I wouldn’t buy it. People are right: It’s a blatant cash grab and it’s probably going to stay that way. I would happily support Anet if they sold the items in the gem store directly, and not through RNG within RNG, but it seems they are slowly edging toward complete and total RNG control of this game.
If something like Dragonbash is going to be like a GW2 holiday that happens yearly, I’m fine with it. I don’t mind some new content being temporary as long as they mix in something more permanent once in awhile that adds to the game in a meaningful way. I like the fact that they have made things purchasable only in the gem shop as that may help fund the expansion a bit. I’d love to see the desert open up to us eventually.

Orr and South Sun were DE centered high level areas. Since you can go to any zone and have your level decreased is the main focus of having DEs the end-game as posted many times by the devs before the game was launched.
Since people for the most part ignored the DE system and would rather repeat time and again the dungeons. This resulted in more complaints as a result the Living Story system was established and so far is proving to be a wise business decision.
I too have heard nothing nor do I expect an expansion til the middle of next year. MAYBE!
This post originally started issues with the “temp content” but Colin made it clear in January that this is where the game is heading. This caused a stir and some they started to lock in some of the content.
Now one could argue that by slowly adding in permanent elements that the need for a true expansion is not needed or required. So this in itself will push back an need to actually make a full expansion.
All I have stated is what Anet has. The Living Story system in conjunction with the DE system IS the PvE end-game which includes Orr and South Sun and it appear the new jumping puzzle in LA that will stay in permanently once Dragon Bash is over.
people need to realize this and not go and get overly excited about it. This is why I ask the question.
Do you enjoy the game?
Because it all appearances this is going to be the status quo for the foreseeable future.

You have an establish game that was fully paid for when the game was launched and sold over 7 million copies. ($350,000,000 high end rough eestimate)
The game is run with an engine that is easy to update. This statement was made more then once in articles with the devs before launch.
You have a cash shop and you place items into that people use real money to buy them. Not everyone exchanged in game gold into gems. These are actually a minority. So you do the math and you can see that the Living Story model is making them a ton of cash.

lol, what? 7 million copies? Where did you get that data from?
You also have no data showing what percentage of people use gold to convert to gems as opposed to buying them with real world money.
Best check your sources. Seriously.
