Hi all recently i’ve been search for all sorts of info on the tengu ( I am hoping that they will become a new race) but i noticed something strange when looking them up
The gw1 tengu’s stand up pretty straight but Gw2 tengu’s hung over?
I wonder why there are no heavy armoured tengu at the gates in lion’s arch :/ would love to see that ^^
What do you guys think if the tengu become playable should they have the same animations based on gw1?
I think it will end up like a charr. Look at how the GW2 tengu is. The armour will look bad on them aswell as shields will be bugged since they are leaned forward. Look how many people plays charr etc. compared to other races.
I think nobody is going to play tengu because of that (If it becomes a new race ofc.)
I like the new Tengu. They have a distinct, instantly recognizable culture and their new physique looks more lean, wary, and polished.
I do, however, hope that the animations are up to par with Talon Silverwing’s from GW1. That would be fantastic.
i like the tengu in the concept art, but concept art always looks way better than the actual thing.
Heavy armor: I suspect it just hasn’t been done yet. I’m kind of hoping for the GW1 BMP tengu weapon skins to come back, except for heavy armor as well this time. It’d be pretty sweet.
I’m pretty sure there’s never been any concept art of tengu in GW2 though, at least not that was ever released. The picture linked above is actually from GW1 EotN.
But anyway, my thoughts on how they compare: eh, roughly even. The actual model art for GW1 tengu was usually not that good (they had an excuse, the whole game had lower detail), but the animations were certainly unique. I kind of figure the run style and backhand-sword thing ought to make a comeback once we see more of them.
GW2 ones so far are probably executed better but I’m not going to argue – the beak does look funny. And between the leaning vs. standing stance, I’d have picked the latter too, given the choice. The model textures are much better though.
I don’t know… the blue and gold macaw one needs to have that lower beak fit into the upper, not jut out past it. They could never evolve with that type of non-functional beak.
Actually it does, those are just very large tusks. Most (though not all) tengu in GW1 had those – they look more like teeth in GW2 though.
I hope they change the Tengu model currently in GW2 because its just the charr model with a different skin. The Tengu in GW1 looks a lot better (imo) and have a cool running / casting animation. I actually wish they would just bring back the class specific casting animations for each class and just put them in the gem store or something.
Hold up a sec. Profession specific animations for the gem store?! Why do people suggest kitten that should be in the game should be in the gem store as if it had a better chance of making it in the game at all…?
Never saw a parrot tengu in GW1.
I prefer the GW2 version.
I prefer GW2 Tengu as well.
As someone who farmed these feathered beauties for years I have to say I would be gutted not to see my old friends again.
Nah, I prefer the GW1 Tengu by far. Now they’re hunched over, anemic looking. Basically just bird heads on hunched normal frames. In GW1 they had feathers coming out all over, had a presence, weren’t hunched over like decrepit vultures, but rather stood proud like an eagle. The GW2 Tengu remind me of the trolls in WoW. They coulda been cool, but instead had this weak look. I’ve never liked the hunched look of characters. It’s feeble, it’s unnatural. I understand a crouched combat stance, but not walking around like a 90yr old. Bring back the proud eagle warriors, not the feeble buzzards they’ve become!

I also said “OR SOMETHING”. Calm your kitten The old class specific animations could have been in game from the start or they could be purchased from an NPC in game kind of like how you purchase stance, running, idle animations and emotes in Aion from an NPC. It wouldn’t surprise me though if they did end up in the gem store if Arena-net even thinks of bringing them back ( which most likely wont happen ).
From the pictures given the gw1 pictures shows them as a more diverse and proud race while the gw2 tengu just look like charr with bird heads. They don’t look complete in gw2 most of them only really differ in feather color.
Topic —→ Hijacked!
IMO the Tengu design will receive a little more TLC when they become playable.
GW2 tengu are reskinned charr. Their posture, idle animation, and bow-holding animation are the same.
Just play a charr if you want to play tengu in gw2, same thing
Tengu became Feral Werebatbirds.
Never saw a parrot tengu in GW1.
Ah, you never played EotN then. Quetzal were definitely parrot-inspired, especially in that they had an inherent ability to mimic shouts.

Haha this made me laugh, but I agree.
