Tequatl
That stinks. For what it’s worth, though, most Tequatl runs, in my experience, don’t have this problem, so I think your experience was more exceptional than normal.
At first I thought it was a DDOS, but it became clear throughout the fight that it was the local node. All I could do was spam 1, every once in a while heal, and hope that when the game decided to show me what was going on I wasn’t dead.
As you can imagine, the map chat explained their displeasure in a much more derogatory manner than I did on here.
Sounds like you had way more functionality than I had during the Karka invasion of LA… ;0
That said, I’ve been getting lag in odd places lately, like during the Chef Lorna(?) griffon egg hunt in Lornar’s, with maybe 5-6 people.
Why u wait 1h to do Tequatl when it does not give you anything? Its waste of time since its not rewording at all.
Fractals 39 was a nightmare with people lagging, dc’ing, creeps exploding and the 3 worse combinations of fractals together. The whole party was experiencing it.
Thief / Mesmer / Elementalist / Warrior / Necromancer / Ranger / Engineer / Revenant
Crystal Desert – Eredon Terrace – Fort Aspenwood – Stormbluff Isle

-cringe-
But, to answer the question, the fight itself can’t take more than 21 minutes, and it’s usually more like 13. I usually get there half an hour early, but organization can start later and be perfectly fine; I just like erring on the safe side, getting my favorite place, and hanging out. So while the whole thing might take an hour, it’s really less than that, and a substantial portion can be AFK or goofing around with other players.
It’s not crazy-lucrative by any means, but it’s enjoyable and reasonably profitable. I meet interesting people and turn a tidy profit.
Seriously ANET, this is absolutely ridiculous. There is a capped number of people allowed in a zone, yet twice in 3 days, a fully organized Tequatl has failed because the server cannot handle the load. The entire map presses abilities and then we usually see our dead corpse about a minute later.
So frustrating. I am already poor in game, and then to lose out on two days of Tequatl is very, very frustrating.
Sigh
Tequatl tonight 11/4/2014 was mad lag!!!! Everyone was dropping and had major amounts of DC’s.

Tequatl gives you 2g, plus whatever loot items drop from the chests. Then there is a shed of karma earned. This has been the best rewarding open world PvE event in the game since it was up-graded last year.

yeah, Teq lags. I’ve been laging in silverwastes and drytop for me too. They must need a server fix.

Disagree, without it I would never have been able to put this look together.
I crashed more than once right a minute before Teq’s death, after waiting 1 hour for the event to start..karma…

I’ve started to learn that the time it takes to kill tequatl in relation to how early you entered the instance has sort of a skewed bell curve with an extra spike.
The 1 hour group generally gets it done, but they aren’t perfect
The 45 min group mostly merges with the 1 hour group but otherwise does slightly better
The 30 minute group tends to be just SO close to instant phase burns but not quite
The 15 minute group usually does it flawlessly with 9 mins to spare
The 10 minute group starts to drop back out of the instant-burn
The 7 minute group fails one of the last batteries and drives completion time down to 20 secs left
The 6 minute group doesn’t fail the battery but still drives it down to 4 mins left
The 5 minute group has about a 50/50 chance of either failing or seriously making almost record time and killing it with nearly 11 minutes left
(In my experience)
Moral of the story, don’t show up an hour early. Aim for about 20 minutes. If you find you’re late to that, give it a try anyway. The less time you wait, the less it hurts when there’s a crash/lagout and the smaller the window for a crash/lagout.
(Extra note: If you recognize my username, you probably have seen me complaining about Tequatl in the past. Now that it no longer takes an hour plus to get prepared, I’m OK with it. I like it even. Maybe one day that will be the story with Triple Trouble.)
