Tequatl's Gloom MADNES
Get into a lower population map. Like, don’t taxi in to a big full one, wait until the event is ~5 mins from starting and then go to a public map. It should be under-populated and disorganised, but that will provide leeway for Teq to use his whirlpools a few times.
iv lost entire 2 days on this madness and is not working im so disappointed iv wasted 6 months to get here and now this kitten
Seriously, just do what was suggested. The issue is entirely in the fact that organized maps burn Teq down too quickly for the pools to trigger, so simply avoiding them is the way to go.
its 2 things u get organized or u get fail maps that cant even touch him there is no middle ground dont you think i have not tried ?
Whirlpools always spawn right at 75% when he goes invulnerable for the first battery defense stage. No exceptions. They’re always there, regardless of how fast the dps is.
They are easy to miss if you’re not paying attention and you need to be quick to get into one. But it is certainly possible.
Whirlpool usually spawn at the end of the first phase (before first battery) regardless of how well the damage is.
Generally near his foot somewhere

Heh I actually got dragged in while doing Teq with TTS a couple weeks ago from not paying attention. They were doing the no defense thing and everyone was under its chin.

do you like me to record a god kitten video to prove to you that they dont spam ? always and yes i know iv read million guides i saw videos and stuff they dont spam if u burn the boss to fast and this week entire week i got the luck fail totaly whit not taking not even 5% of the boss OR or burn it so fast that he skips the whirlpools

They spawn at 75%. the kicker is that the zerg often does enough damage that they 1) don’t spawn at all, or 2) spawn at the same time he flies off. My last 2 Teq events we spawned whirlpools because we had people ask. Odds are good if you get on a populated map and let them know you need the achivo they will slow down dps so the pools trigger in the first phase.
Thursday 11pm PDT is my event. Hit me up anytime or look for Pat Strife, Kenage, or the guys from [TEA]

I suspect this is true.
pve, raid, pvp, fractal, dungeon, world clearing, legendary questing.. Zapped!
Most of the people out there are wrong. A slow dps on tequatl won’t garantee you the whirlpool. There are 2 way to have garantee whirlpools :
- Having Tequatl reach 75% at the same time than he spawn some fingers. If you have very low dps, even to the point of not being able to reach the 75% treshold, you won’t even see any whirlpool at all. At the same time if you reach the treshold a bit after the finger’s spawn and tequatl don’t bother spawning another set of fingers, you also won’t have any whirlpool.
- Having low dps when you burn tequatl to 50%-25%-0%. At this phase if the dps is low and you don’t reach the treshold before the end of the “stun” phase you’ll have garantee whirlpools.
The right move to have garantee whirlpool is to have low dps on a “stun” phase, not seeking the whirlpool on the first one.

I run Teq daily and have for about a year now. They always spawn, every time, no matter how fast you burn him. If he gets burned fast enough to not spawn them by the time he flies off he WILL spawn them at that point. Right when he takes off grasping fingers will appear in the middle of new red fields (you may or may not actually see the whirlpool effect). Stand in one of those fields and you will get pulled under.
Gele try doing n hills defense, I see at least one whirlpool spawn there even on organized maps (usually just before first battery phase)
I have seen the whirlpools appear at 75% even with the elite specs+condition damage buff update. before the world boss health buff (when Teq was burned down really fast)
i have notice large zergs+low effects settings will make the whirlpools only show up as red aoe rings (made even harder to see in the deeper parts of the shallow water)
i just cant do it he don’t spam the stupid whirlpools , i’m frustrated beyond hell .
Are there any plans to fix this to make some different objective or something ?? and im not alone on this many people hate this
Never rage post; it causes premature baldness and… and… baby kittens to explode.
If you’re getting angry, walk away from the keyboard and try again later. It’s not like Teq is dropping a single blue item and 8c for all your troubles. You’ll eventually get it, especially if you do what others are suggesting and join overflow servers (imo on the weekends, so you still have a good shot at beating Teq).

A few other places to stand that almost guarantee you get sucked under is right in front of T3 (where the finger spawns) and/or if in the zerg right in front of his right foot (the one closest to the zerg)

You might want to consider tanking up a bit and hunting down all the red circles in front of him. It can be really hard to tell which one’s a whirlpool vs. poison that hasn’t started clouding yet. But they do spawn; I got mine on a well organized map when he hit 75% or thereabouts… but I had to go hunting for rings.

The whirlpools have the two bones sticking out doing the grabby motion. They are also thinner and and at a different angle from the other tendrils.

It’s not that simple. Even unorganized maps can get Teq into burn phases. What you need is a map good enough to beat Tequatl, but not good enough to do it too well.
Getting to a map with less than 10 minutes to go is probably your best bet. Second best, get to a map 40 minutes or more before hand — for some reason, I always have the bad luck you want, with maps that organize too early (people go AFK and don’t make it back in time, resulting in a rough phase 1).
There’s no easy way for ANet to adjust the difficulty of the fight and forcing the whirlpools on efficient instances would be frustrating to everyone. Similarly, it’s not all that easy to replace the Tequatl’s gloom requirement with something else that fits the theme.
Since finding the buried ‘chest’ at the bottom of a whirlpool is an achievement in its own right, I favor ANet taking a slower, deliberative approach to making that achievement more accessible, without screwing up the fight. Here are some ideas on how they can do that:
- Add 2-3 minutes at the beginning of the fight, where Tequatl flies around, dropping smoke, poison, and yeah, whirlpools.
- Add a minute at the end of a successful fight, where Teq falls into the water, creating a non-tidal wave and the ground swallows the dragon up, creating the whirlpools.
- Instead of leaving all the Fingers to clear during the Defend the battery|etc phase, leave whirlpools that have a healthbar that has to be destroyed.
Another option would be to make a lot more whirlpools spawn (regardless of DPS) as Teq goes jumping off at the start of each battery phase… would make for a more interesting fight too, as a larger part of the zerg would get sucked in and need to swim their way out in order to defend the batteries.

Agreed. That’s (sort of) what I had in mind by my 3rd suggestion.
