I have been trying for 2 days now to get into the “watery grave”, which is accessible only via the whirlpools put down by Tequatl, however the phases in which Teq summons these are being burned so quickly NO whirlpools spawn! this is infuriating, I have everything ready to finally complete my Twilight, all i need is this! If someone has found a way to to this please let me know, thanks <3

Obviously, chose not most populated map (instance).

Ive tried that! either you get a full map, or you get one that cant even get past 90% health (whirlpools only appear past 75%)

Try lfg and put Tequatle gloom Map in heading. Must be a lot of people looking for same

The whirlpools of the first transition phase to the first battery defence cannot be burned through and are easy to get pulled in.

Dps teq normally, when your skills don’t damage him anymore (75% HP) it means he is phasing. At that moment run towards the nearest twin fingers which are spawning like normal fingers would. The whirlpools spawn on theese twin fingers. Get pulled in whirlpool et voilà!

When I was trying to get that achievement I could not find a whirlpool for the life of me. Once I got it, I can’t help getting pulled into the whirlpools every time I got to Teq, even when I try to avoid them. It’s like the game is toying with me. :p

Just tried it and found the whirlpool on the first try.

Whats a twin finger? I have tried twice now and I all see are his four legs and the other tentical fingers.

So I have stood between his front feet, and out in front of him, and even heard the warning about the whirlpool, but I never saw ANYTHING to indicate where it was.

Four attempts now, still no clue how to end up in the whirlpool. I turned my graphics up and thought maybe I saw a whirpool behind him, but nothing but orange circles and death in front of him. Every map I go to gets fully loaded with people and we always win with a ton of time to spare. This was REALLY bad design for a collection item.

Looking at all of the screenshots and videos, they all seem to be pre-HoT, BEFORE they added orange circles, which seem to obscure the already hard to see whirlpools. I don’t see how you know which circle will kill you and which circle will suck you in.

What bugs are you getting a tad hysterical about, I do this fight two or three times a day, I see whirlpools fairly often .. and it seems instead of posting tickets you may be better off learning to use LFG, there are ALWAYS taxis for every Teq. fight, and even more so now as many who would be doing it are off doing Shatterer .. God knows why Anet deliberately create a schedule when two of the three most popular fights ATM are often at the same time.

I too suffered frustration with this for over three weeks, I got it entirely by accident on one character who didn’t need it and tried a long time on another that did.

Not sure what that poster’s referring to, but I’ve seen a whirlpool several times in the same place near a finger …

I always stand in between the two sets of turrets. You’ll know that all around are ‘islands’ which aren’t covered by water, there’s one of these to the right of the reeds (as you’re facing Tequatl) where a Tequatl’s Finger always spawns .. when the fingers spawn they first that appear are those making up the ring which surrounds him, then after a short delay a final one spawns on this ‘island’.

Well, nearly every time I’ve seen a whirlpool it’s spawned right in front of where this single finger spawns (between the finger and Tequatl).

As others have said, it too has an orange disc but there’s no green poison fumes and has two fingers inside the orange disc instead of just one which the normal finger spawn has; also, there’s a female hylek NPC who shouts out about the whirlpools and “they’re sucking people under”.

It happens very quickly, and frankly if you’re not standing right next to .. or in my case now three times on top of .. where it spawns you’re unlikely to be able to run to it.

It’s not much comfort I know, but I see one at least every three fights. I watched the videos and they all seem to show you need to stand right by his feet, I did that many times and only once did a whirlpool spawn there, whereas the location hope I’ve described seems to be far more reliable.

What bugs are you

After getting it of course I now see they’re pretty common and often spawn in the same place, although usually what happens from what I’ve seen in that they spawn and then due to the zerg’s DPS immediately he triggers his first take-off and people just don’t see them.

The whirlpools spawn at the same place that regular fingers do when Teq is phasing. Instead of having one finger spawning at usual, you get 2 fingers sprouting and then twisting before disappearing. The whirlpool apears during that twisting.

You should just follow me… I have the ultimate luck to ALWAYS be there where these kitten whirlpools spawn and I do NOT need to be pulled in at all! It’s really annoying if you’re the one with the commander tag above your head. :C

How hard is to understand that this never happens. Either because the map is full and the players deal so much damage Teq skip this part of the mechanic or there are not enough people and the boss hp dont drop enough…

How hard is to understand that this never happens. Either because the map is full and the players deal so much damage Teq skip this part of the mechanic or there are not enough people and the boss hp dont drop enough…

I understand that normally if the fight gets to the final three phases they’re burned through before he finishes being stunned so he doesn’t do whirlpools in those.
But there’s one set of whirlpools when his health gets to 75%, just before he flies off and starts the first battery defence. It doesn’t matter how much dps is being done, that still happens.

The first set of whirlpools is unskippable and does happen rgardless of the dps when teq reaches 75% health. Just be at the right spot and ready for them.

The later sets (50% and 25%) do indeed rarely happen due to the burn phase going so fast.

However one whirlpool is enough to get the achievement so who cares.

After Teq dies run past the chest and go under water, look for a portal in the underwater cliff. Credit to Coppelia for explaining it to me.

You need to check the dates on the threads — back when this was posted they hadn’t patched in the guaranteed whirlpool and now that they have, the thread is moot. Be careful about necro posting!
