I haven’t gone to lengths to see how much similarity there is between the two games’ respective terrains, but I haven’t noticed much, if any. Obviously, 250 years worth of weather would have changed things all over, but the rising of Orr didn’t flood everything, and even in the real world, castles don’t decay to dust on their own in the space of a couple centuries.

Anyone catch a glimpse of the old Tyria as they run around the countryside? Point me there to reminisce, please?

Well there a lot of races that build in this game so that alone should changes the terrain alot. Look at humans in real life we destroy mountains to get at what we want or to put in a rode etc… we are just one race that dose this on such a large scale but in the land of terrain there at least 4 that dose this maybe more.

Also it seems most ppl can move mountains so some must of tried!

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

There was something about this some time ago on reddit:

Quite some nice screenshots. I think Ascalon is full of this stuff.

Ascalon has some of the most notable spots, especially as you approach the city itself from the south, you can almost see yourself walking up the old road from ashford abbey. The giant crystal in Pockmark Flats is still around in GW2, in fact grawl have taken up around it and worship it like the stoopid monkies they are. Not much is left of serenity temple, but it is still there. The southern shiverpeak area has a few places where you can see some of the old landscape (in fact many of the old buildings are still there like Granite Citadel, but not all of the surrounding areas are the same). The reason Kryta looks so different are 2 major things: obviously the flooding of LA, becuase initially the waters were much higher but they receded some so the landscape was pretty much wrecked pretty far inland; and a good bit of marsh, which is what kryta was mostly back in the day, was drained to make farmland (and I assume subsequently some of the land was scraped/leveled to make suitable areas for planting, ect). You can of course dive down underwater in LA and see the old city, some of it is still discernible, but a lot of the ground was churned up so it’s impossible to map it brick for brick to the old one (there’s a vista down there with an awesome view of the steps with the lion statues too) One big thing to remember though, a lot of the most memorable places from GW1 can’t be accessed yet, so in the future when they open up more we might see more things we recognize in areas that haven’t been so heavily populated and terraformed.

Very little, which is a tiny shame, but could easily just be me missing things as well. The feel of each zone is slightly less distinctive than it was as well, but again it’s a minor gripe and just a bi-product of the game design.

There is a great map out there which overlays GW1 onto the new GW2 map and you can see where things were/are/should be. It’s really interesting to look at.

I spent a lot more time in the Nightfall continent Elona than Tyria, so I suspect if we ever go there, I will be forever noticing little bits.
