Twice today i have been in parties where abuse was thrown at various people for little or no reason… Seems to be getting more like a certain other game with terrible community :-(

1, Lev 2 Frac .. was in a party and hit the Dredge fractal … and this guy didn’t know what to do .. so several of the group called him a noob and started throwing abuse at him .. i did not understand this kind of mentality :-(

2 Arah story mode … this guy asked for help doing his story mode so i and 3 others helped … all through the instannce they called him noob for dying and not knowing what to do… so i told him best leave and him and me made a party and finished the instance together…

What is it with peoples attitudes? Maybe lacking something in real life?

PUGs are subject to bad apples and rage quitters… had 2 groups in Fractals 1 suffer the same last night. The fact that we completed level 1 as a novice 4-man group goes to show the idiot who left was probably the one without skill.

This is the best community i’ve seen in any mmo, believe me you just had a few bad apples.

BTW the dredge fractal is hard to complete, i don’t usually rage if people make mistakes, but they do have to listen to the people that did do it before, if they run of on their own and don’t take advice it’s their fault tbh. (not saying your case was) Community comes from trying to contribute just as wel as coming from teaching others. If one of both doesn’t happen the group fails. Fractals is designed for group coördinated tactics, if you don’t listen to anyone you don’t belong there.

If you are looking for a cozy mature Dutch guild (EU) let me know.

While I agree, calling him a noob is pretty negative and I would be a bit taken back as well, the guy should know what he is doing by now. Lvl 80, doing fractals and arah..it sounds like he was dying a lot. At that point, you should know your class a bit, and how to stay alive. And you should know that if you are traited glass cannon, you will die.

So while noone DESERVES to be put down verbally, this person SHOULD be in a position to avoid it. 80 levels of questing, dungeons, WvW…constant danger, you need to know when and how to get out of bad floor, how to build yourself to survive. Come on.

I have a thick skin when it comes to this. But if I see a player just sitting in front of the boss getting two shotted, not moving.. It is frustrating for the group because its becoming a waste of time and time is a premium for most people.

There is a community in this game? Ok, true I am not a veteran with a huge experience of all aspects of this game, havent even reached 80 yet!

Getting close though, so far, the only evidence I seen of a “community” are rare posts on any map chat (mostly its dead though), 2 completely random guild invites and 1 group invite for a map event. Other then that this feels like a single player game…

Sigh… maybe I picked the wrong server or something,

Yeah. I know a few bad apples can spoil the barrel, but try not to let it get to you. Wherever you go — forums, other mmos, real life — you’ll meet people who are entitled, impatient and rude.

Since we’re swapping stories, a few days ago I was doing a CoE run. We did the second path, we had a guardian with us who reluctantly went along, he had wanted to do first path. He frequently died and obstinately refused to respawn. When he died at the very, very last boss (literally one battle away from completion of the dungeon) he was all “We can’t do this, we need more warriors/guardians and you all need to get better gear” (to a team kitted out with full exotics, including a ranger with a legendary) and left.

Why you would leave at the very last part after that kind of time investment is stupidity of the highest caliber. We replaced him with a much more competent guardian and completed it with relative ease.

This community is pretty good, but since fractals I’m finding way more rude and obnoxious people.
I think the fractal gear grinding caters to the worst audience in the game. Also, grinding is stressing, so people get mad quite easily.
My ignore list was empty before fractals (and I pugged the other dungeons a lot). Now it’s quite long.

The best community I’ve ever seen is the LotRO one, tho. Very polite and mature.

Some people are just stu….

I mean we never done the X dungeon or fractal, some people act like WE MUST KNOW EVERYTHING ALREADY. And if we are new to that and fail do something, there is alot of RAGE in our way.

I started to quit in the middle of dungeons because the insults. Find parties is already hard, and there is some stupid people who act like all “pros”, that doesn’t have patiente for say to others what are we going to do/etc…

I really really really really really hate the actual social side of the game in this aspects.

I see people posting about this a lot, that maps are dead. Yes, the mid level 30-60 maps are lacking but they are far from dead. On my server, I would still see a few players every other minute or so. Theres always someone around, always. Even if they are not spamming map chat like Barrens chat from WoW. They are there. Ive asked in map chat “anyone home”. silence. Im doing a DE event on my own, and here come two players to help me out. Not everyone is a forum poster, not everyone likes to map chat. But that doesn’t mean the community is bad. Stormbluff isle is constantly populated, Jade quarry and janthr are too.

Well, i do agree he should know his class, but it was the 1st time in the dredge level of fractals… (i had only done it once myself) .. but the others had done it before seems many times and knew what to do but gave no explanation of what to do .. so he followed someone he shouldn’t and got abuse for it…
And as for Arah, he did not know what to expect (avoided the other dungeons as not key to story) so was his first dungeon …

Ps .. I think the problem with fractals is that with so diverse areas you can get upto lev 3-4 and still not see all the different ones… so when you get to a new one and no idea what to do or where to go you get the jerks calling you ‘noob’ and ‘ltp’ etc …

Maybe best to play with fun gamers not wannabe ‘leet’ players hehe

Yea ok, I see what you mean. I also see people here and there while leveling but still hardly any communication going on at all. Even standing in Lion’s Arch its silent, ask a question, no reply.Last thing I want is a barren chat but some signs of life would be nice at least.

Guess I will just hang in there and hope it gets better once I get closer to 80.
I dont play a mmo to run around on my own, if I want that I play a single player game or a fps pew pew.

I find you’re much more likely to get obnoxious people in PUGs. I think it’s a combination of people thinking they can get away with it because there’s a good chance they won’t see any of you again and people being forced into PUGs because their attitude dramatically reduces their chances at making friends who will want to play with them again.

That and some people seem to confuse PUGs with runners. They join a random group because it’s quick and easy and seem to think that means doing the dungeon (or whatever) should be quick and easy as well so they have absolutely no patience for any kind of delay. I’m very honest with people and always make it clear when it’s my first time doing things, or I’ve never been part of a group that succeeded before or whatever but I’ve still had people invite themselves into the party and then effectively insist that I should run them through it.

But in my experience (which is entirely on one server – Desolation) they’re still the minority. You might get one kittenhole in a group, but everyone else is usually ok.

I have to agree, I rarely if ever see another person while questing. I have not even seen any guild spam or recived a random invite to one. This feels like a single player game, I am trying to get through as fast as I can but it is slow going alone.

compared to other developers, like for example, the company who name rhymes with ‘wizard’, the gw2 community is already pretty good.

even on the forums, sensitive topics get some real debate going rather than just name calling. people here in general make an effort to think and put their points across as well as they can.

tbh though, the best community i’ve seen belongs to runic games. lucky sobs. i’ve never seen a community so fully supportive of its company.

Yeah we switched out of Kaineng cause there was almost 0 pve community there (couldn’t find dungeon runs at all) and went to Sorrow’s Furnace and loving it now. I never ninja invite people to my guild think it is bad taste without a message to them first. You should probably switch servers

I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised by the community on my home server (Crystal Desert). I’ve run in successful pugs and a couple of unsuccessful ones and have very rarely come across anyone who was just over-the-top rude. I’m sorry for your experiences, OP.

Low level fractals can be very frustrating because of the knowledge difference. There are several small but important tricks that make running each fractal much easier. Those tricks are really only learned as a direct result of experience. So.. at the lower levels when more people are likely not to have that experience, people can get irritated and lash out.

As is true for most MMOs, I’ve found that a good guild is insulation against most of this sort of thing. :-) Mine, for instance, does dungeon night two nights a week and takes anyone who wants to go. They’ve been incredibly patient with my lack of knowledge and have helped me learn several dungeons I would have been otherwise uncomfortable trying.

I don’t know. This is by far the best online gaming community I’ve been a part of. Our map chat almost always has people chatting and I frequently hear people asking for help and others coming to their aid.

I don’t do dungeons but the only rotten eggs I’ve run into are in Lion’s Arch and that hasn’t happened in a while. I guess it’s just dungeons like other people said? I’m kind of dreading having to do that for my story now…

This must be your first mmo then because this community is horrible. And obviously you didn’t read the post because the people who grouped with him were just ripping on the other guy who didn’t know what to do. There was no listening problems. Those people obviously didn’t take a second to explain what to do. This happens a lot more than any other mmo especially with those kicking people when an end boss is about to die.

SWG had the best community ever imo. Sandbox game where the people had to make their own content since there was 0 end game, 0 dungeons, no instances except battlegrounds (but those maybe were up for a week in the beginning then shut down and never got fixed again), no blue, purple or orange loot etc. It only had a few cheesey theme parks but that was it. And no the game wasn’t all that but the community made it a special game.

WoW’s community may have its kids who flex e-peens and just argue at times in trade chat, but overall at least they don’t really do this kind of stuff and I have found a lot nicer people in WoW.

ToR’s community is very good also. Lots of friendly people there.

GW2 is 2nd worst to Terra. The people here act like elitist and remind me a worse version of EQ community.
