Ive had Gw2 since just after launch, stopped playing for a varied reasons.
I recently bought myself a new gaming rig and decided to go back.
Here are my specs

i7 4970k
geforce gtx 980
8gb ram

My framerate in game is wholly inconsistent and drops close to 30fps in some ares while maintaining the 60fps its capped at via v sync most of the time (v sync on or off makes no difference to my framerate so I use it to stop screen tearing). Unless I turn the camera quickly. Bottom line is the gameplay is not smooth, it feels stuttery and the drops don’t seem to coincide with anything in particular.

All other games run amazingly I am extremely impressed with my system, Ive tried the normal etc reinstalling graphics drivers running with no background program etc.
So I dont really know what to do now, I don’t intend to continue playing if this is the performance I can expect from a game that really doesn’t look very good.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

To be honest, your system should run the game outside of WvW and World bosses at 60fps fine unless you are running a ridiculous res (4k+).

I’m not really sure why it wouldn’t except for other services/applications taking up resources or not having updated drivers.

As I said Ive tried all the obvious things like background programs etc. It’s a shame because the game is really fun I just cant get over the inconsistent and unexplainable performance. I play rift like 80+fps on everything max beyond the ultra preset even. Its really not acceptable. Arena net clearly doesnt give two kittens either.

Oddly enough, when I search the forums for “fps” or “frame rate” only my post shows up. That is strange.

Would be much stranger if the search function wasn’t so broken. lol

“broken” seems to be the running theme with Arenanet.
