Am I alone in constantly wrestling with the in-game text window? I’ve never had to deal with a more cumbersome chat window in any game, than the one in GW2. I’m constantly having trouble activating it without opening dozens of windows all over my screen. And I also have a lot of difficulty selecting the right chat channel. This used to be so much easier in GW1. What did they change? Why is this in-game chat window so uncooperative?

I also find it very difficult to read a conversation when I’m whispering someone. Which of the lines were by me, and which were sent to me? When I quickly read over it, I can’t help but feel that it would be so much easier to read, if it said my name in the text.

So instead of it saying:

“From Mister Anderson
To MisterAnderson"

Why not make it say:

“From Mister Anderson
From Mad Queen Malafide"

That would make it SO much easier to read!

I imagine they don’t do it the way you suggested because, if you’re whisper chatting with more than one person, it would soon get very messy and confusing to know if you said something to person X or Y.

Instead of having:

“From Mister Anderson
From John Doe
To Mister Anderson
From Queen Jennah
To John Doe
To Queen Jennah
From John Doe
To Mister Anderson
To John Doe”

You would have:

“From Mister Anderson
From John Doe
From Mad Queen Malafide
From Queen Jennah
From Mad Queen Malafide
From Mad Queen Malafide
From John Doe
From Mad Queen Malafide
From Mad Queen Malafide”

I agree with Tarug. How would you know who you’re talking to?

It would also be nice to color code various whisper conversations though.

I understand that, but frankly I’ve never had any trouble understanding who it was that I was responding to. Even when multiple people are whispering me. But like Lilith Ajit said, a different color would help a lot. Or:

“From me to MisterAnderson:” in a different color than the normal purple.

It’s mostly the double name that throws me off though. Seeing the name MisterAnderson (or any other name of course) multiple times in a row, and one being a received message, and another a sent message by myself. Very confusing.

I get that.

I think the alternative colors thing is a good idea. Or even an option to pop out a certain chat and move it elsewhere.

I just wish they would give us more control over the chat box and UI in general. I wrestle with it constantly myself, and there is really no way to customize it to make it efficient.

It would be a huge QoL improvement if they would let us have some sort of control over the UI and chat windows.
