Thank you for like zero downtime
Yeah, now that you mention it, they’ve been great with downtime! Blizzard, on the otherhand, always screwed me over with that. It always annoyed me and yet there were so many apologists telling us that it’s “necessary”. Turns out it’s not!
The minimal downtime really is amazing. What a smooth launch this has been! My only beef was the trading post.
I really appreciate the work that must have gone into the patching process. I’m home sick and haven’t had to find something else to do during the weekly server maintenance window like I would have had to do with the other online games.
The trading post being down did stink, but I didn’t find it impacted me as much as the auction house troubles Blizzard had with D3 (which I played and enjoyed enough to feel I got my $60 worth even though I’m no longer playing it). There was so much stuff to do in GW2 that didn’t require the TP that it was more of an annoyance than a problem for me.

What would you rather have? A bugged trading post which is slow, where you can lose items or money. Or wait for it a little while and then have a fast working trading post?
I know what I would choose.
Ok, I was a bit dissapointed to but I think it would be more frustrating to get errors than to see the maintenance sign.
I’d rather be able to play 99% of the game and let them fix the trading post when it makes sense.
I think they did a great job with the launch. They shut down non-essential services so the core of the game could be played without issue. They did it with minimal downtime. They brought up non-core parts of the game in an orderly, timely fashion in a sequence that made sense as resources became available and critical issues became less prevalent.
For me, this was a very smooth release.

I share your opinion. It was a very smart move to disable the trading post and mail temporarily. But I don’t think they only shut them down but also improved these parts.

Oh, you are absolutely correct. It was just a LONG time.
The first day of headstart the game was down for three hours. And it’s been up and running ever since. I think they do take it down briefly on occasion to do big patches. But most of what they do they don’t have to take the servers down for. Which is truly amazing. Another reason to love ArenaNet and GW2.
