Hopefully with these big updates they can get rid of the bugs with DR, MF, finally take engineer out of the beta testing phase, and restore the loot to it’s former levels. Preferably in January.

they will never get rid of the DR system, that’s how things are, they need to eat …. they are greedy kittens and leeching their customers to the point where it’s THIS obvious.

They released this whole game when it was NOT ready out of greed, despite their “when it’s ready” policy. clue clue ….. they will still leech a lot of $$$ as they have loads of fanboys and there’s no other new mmo out there at the moment.

I have the same feeling. Big progression was made in the last months. Lost Shores was a bad move but apart from that, the game only got better and better. Even Lost Shores was mostly good except for ascended items and the associated bad communication. Fractals and the Cove are both very nice areas, I just wish a.net hadn’t puppied on the ascended puppy.

When I compare to WoW launch and Aion launch, this game definitely improved, whereas wow only got worse every patch after 1.08. In Aion I didn’t play in the first 2 weeks (queue) and when I finally started playing the game was already dead. In vanilla WoW I was a warlock, in Aion Spiritmaster and now engineer. I sure have a thing for bugged and troubled classes and let me tell you one thing, compared to other games, engineer is working just fine.

So for all the things that are wrong with GW2, it still is the best MMO launch as of yet. Compliments to a.net and good luck on the incremental improvements to the game.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

If anyone thinks the population is growing/ solid they are deluded

The population is decreasing to the normal values. The initial Hype brought a lot of people to play the game that honestly thought that this was the fulfillment of their dreams, that had everything they ever dreamed.

Aside from those that didn’t like the game and left and the doomsday sayers that don’t like it and yet lurch around in the forums, the ones who stays (there are a lot), are solidifying their interest in GW2.

The game is becoming better everyday! Every new update brings it closer to an awesome game.

LMAO that was the funniest thing I’ve read all day, No bugs huh?

Never played any of the classes I supposed because they all have them right now and you’ve very seriously never played the in-the-beta-testing-phase engineer because it’s riddled with bugs.

Not to mention the large number of bugs apparently you can’t seem to see are bugs when dealing with loot, DR, MF, damage ratios, boons, traits not working, enemies being too powerful for their label, level 60 gift mobs popping out in a level 15 zone (that one was my favorite.)

I mean blinders are one thing but seriously that’s just a tad delusional claiming there aren’t any at all.

Unless you were being sarcastic in which case I withdraw this statement and bid you carry on.

Every game loses people (in terms of people playing at max level regularly) in the first three months. Guild Wars 2 is no exception and doesnt seem to be losing any more than any other. There are still plenty of people playing regularly and the population is leveling out (becoming solid).

The only problem I see is that the game experience varies greatly based on your server population, meaning there are a handful of servers that dont feel just right. A few server merges (it is time) to compensate for the natural attrition and things would be fine.

This.

If you had every comment that was positive that would stunt growth or fixes for the game. People should voice out their displeasure with certain aspects of the game, but they should do it in a constructive manner. It does not help when all people do is fan boy faun at the game when there are obvious issues that should be mentioned. The delusional ones are the ones that think everything is perfect when it is not.

The game is fun for the most part. You have accessibility to good gear and armor (aside from ascended which they are working on) once you hit 80. There are things that cater to most people which can take up a good portion of your time.

There are however issues with the game.

-Character balance needs to be addressed. Some professions just outshine others. I am cringing on the notion that ANets is going to look into damage from AoEs.

-Guesting: This was available in the beta (except bwe 3) so why is it not available now? Thankfully dungeons can be done with friends on other servers but for some places (fractals and the holiday instances) you need to be in the same server as the person. This was somewhat doable with LA overflow but what happens to those that don’t have high pop servers trying to get groups for fractals? Wouldn’t making overflows more accessible be a fast fix for this?

-Culling: There are classes in WvW that can cull and it makes them imbalanced. They are trying to fix it with some changes but hopefully they do more.

-DR: What’s the point of this? If you are aggressively pursuing bots and banning them then aren’t the people who are being punished the most legitimate players? This game is about having options to play how you want, why are you punishing those that want to farm for mats to make their ascended back pieces or legendaries by keeping something like DR. I know people will say those are optional and I will agree, but just because they are optional does not mean people should not be allowed to farm for them how they want.

See this is the kind of comment that is helpful. Though I do want to say one thing about your first comment. The TC did give reasons why he felt the way he does, though maybe not as specific as others may want. So why should he not post that he likes the game, when so many others can post why they hate the game, with as much and quite often fewer reasons then the TC gave for liking it, and not only not be called out, but encouraged?

I am enjoying myself at my own pace and just like WoW was at the beginning, I am enjoying it very much. I hope I enjoy it as much as I did WoW the first 4 years, so far so good.

I understand there will be bugs, and hopefully fixes for them as well as class balancing and new and exciting content along the way, as long as I am enjoying myself in the process, which I am.

I do not understand this whole argument about greed. “they’re greedy” No, they’re running a business and a business has to turn a profit, just like every other business in the entire world and to turn as profit you have to have something that brings in cash flow. WoW does it with a subscription fee and selling items/services through the store. Anet just does it through items/services through the store, which are purely optional. You do not have to spend another dime on this game aside from the initial game purchase. So you can’t cry “greed” on something optional.

I agree the game is growing solid. Each month we’re getting tons and tons of content. Playerbase wise, it’s leveling out to a normal level. The bandwagoners that imagined this to be the second coming have left. Other people come, others go, then come back, etc. My point is that GW2 had a strong start, the launch spike of users is over, now Anet’s growing the game through updates. I do think they could better promote their game though (the theatrical trailer was nice but it reminds people of WoW too much to help GW2).

I am still rather saddened about the engineer thing. I started giving stuff away Friday and Saturday and stripped my engineer of his bags and gold. The engineer was my favorite class (I have a thief, ranger, warrior, ele and guardian at 80 as well). I pretty much gave up and went back to the 360.

I however can’t say this game has not been fun for me. I have over 1000 hours played, to say I was not entertained would be disingenuous. I still log on for an hour to talk to my friends and do a dungeon on my ele or warrior, but going forward I think I need a break.

I wasn’t referencing the most recent fix – although that seems to be what’s bothering most.

The issue with Engineers is a lack of polish. That jack of all trades thing, and definitely not a master of any. Some builds are fun, like Tankcat, or Static Discharge – but in it’s current state, Engineer will never be in the spotlight like Warriors, Thieves, Mesmers and Guardians.

Is there something going on with engineers? I was gonna roll one, maybe I shouldn’t now?

Huge amounts of bugs. We have traits that do literally nothing.

RNG everything makes it very frustrating to play, and success often depends more on luck than skill.

Very very poor damage. All our kits and weapons are so bad most Engineers were using Grenades, a ground targeted AOE with no autoattack, for single target damage. Now They nerfed that 35% (despite their policy of “taking small steps”).

Very few (if any) viable builds.

Downed state is LMFAO horrible.

According to ArenaNet’s class balance philosophies, Engineers are “a highly versatile class” but “this extreme versatility comes at a cost in damage on their main hand weapons”. Elementalist’s on the other hand are considered “the king of versatility”, but have no penalty for that honor.

And on top of all that, they’re one of the hardest classes to play, so it’s twice the effort for half the reward.

Disagree on the engineer, extremely versatile class that, like elementalist, demands a very active play style to get the most out of it. Some people realize that and immediately dismiss the class as broken, when in fact it’s more of a learn to play issue.

It does have its share of bugs, but don’t shy away from rolling the class, it rocks.

GW2 is on a buy-to-play model (akin to GW1 and standard video games) and the likelihood of it ever becoming free to purchase in stores like Gamestop and such is slim to none. It’s relatively unlikely for an MMO to go “f2p” unless it had subscriptions to start with, which GW2 never had.

So yeah, I think the ANet devs are better off NOT listening to someone who doesn’t understand something as basic as that.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

enemies being too powerful for their label,

I am curious about that. So you blame the game as the reason why you are failing against some enemy? Well, I myself never encountered a single PvE match I could not get through. If you are talking about soloing champs that are your level, because that’s the only thing too hard that can happen, then I gotta tell you you are doing something wrong.

I am actually looking forward to the Hard Mode. GW1 got it implemented at a point and it was awesome. And I think I read it once that ANet does intend to get something like the Hard Mode in GW2 too.

^ This. Just quit and come back when these terrible and awful game-breaking issues are fixed. Your negativity is not productive.

Actually, comments that provide no context of what specifically Anet did a good/bad job with as well as ad hominem comments are not productive… Like the one I’m currently engaging in.

I did like some of the profession tweaks (those who got them) and some fixes… I think it’s fair to say that we shouldn’t expect any major sweeping changes until the big patch update coming in Jan/Feb.

I am in no way against criticism, as long as it’s constructive. It’s far too common for people to “complain” about an issue in a manner that’s not productive at all. “It’s not what you say, but how you say it,” applies. Perhaps I was feeling particularly fanboi defensive after having spent some time in the Engineer forums. :P There are indeed issues that can be addressed. Particularly the culling, WvW queue times, Engineers, etc.

But I bet you have no problems with people then posting or making threads saying, “This game rocks!” or “This is better then <insert mmo here>”. How are those productive? Or does it only apply to criticism or whichever suits your needs?
