Thank you.
As a returning player, ive been away for nearly a year and i have returned to guild wars 2. Quite looking forwards to staying awhile longer this time and enjoying the world some more. I drifted away in search of another mmo with exploration and excitement, i found a home and then bad management destroyed it. Thus, i returned to guild wars because there just isnt anything else like it out there.
As to the people complaining about ‘lack of content’
I remind you that you have been playing for nearly two years, and that the ‘lack of content’ is not a lack of content, its that you have finished the content.
There is more than enough content here to justify the price tag. Furthermore, if you add up all the living story stuff from the past year and all the new rewards and other such changes, you have tonne of content that was added to the game. Just because it gets added in small chunks at a time that doesn’t make it lacking.
The bigger picture is great overall.
So, thank you ArenaNet. Home sweet home it seems!

I’d agree with you if this wasn’t advertised as an MMO.
I was running out of things to do until I realize I didn’t do half of the content because it don’t give good gold/hour.
I think that’s one of the problem. If the content dont’ give good gold/hour people just don’t do them.

Don’t care about gold/hour.
Here for the adventure. I have over 330 hours in guild wars 2, i probably have less gold than most new players and less gear. Do i care? Nope.

Shall I remind you, MMO: M = Massively(no where does it say the world needs to be gargantuan, just massive, I’d say Tyria qualifies), Multiplayer-check, Online-check…looks like GW2 matches that pretty well.

I probably should say “some” people dont’ do them. Or they wont’ do them “as often” as the more rewarding one.
Hi, I’m a returning player and totally not an old player pretending to be returning just to rip on people complaining about the lack of content.
This game is so great, it has so much content, wow, amazing, thanks for the paycheck.

I agree with Goose, gw2 is a great online game but i’m not sure if it can be called an mmo. GW2 lacks longevity, progression, it just doesnt hold the players after certain amount of time played, while regular mmos can give thousands of hours of replayability. I really hope anet is preparing something big for the beginning of next year, because another year of just living story will not hold the veteran players.

lol this is awesome.
I am not speechless to often but this is great.
You can’t slap people more in the face than that.
It’s like the government starts a research why so many people are unemployed
The research company found the solution.
The reason why so many people are unemployed is because just very few have a job.
This exactly what you say.
There is not too less content, it’s just that you already know all content.
I just have one question….. how is that helping us ????
I think I can sum up what GW2 has become recently — it’s a game for newer players. It has become a clearing house for older veterans who are very familiar with the content and no longer have an interest in it. There’s nothing to keep the veterans hanging around, as Casmurro said.
It seems GW2 has become something similar to an airport transit lounge. New people come in, veterans leave.
Except for the forty or fifty vets in my guild alone who still play almost every day.
OP, I know what you mean. It’s brutal out there. I’ve tried a few of the other new MMOs too, just to see if there was something better than this.
It’s easy to pick holes in any game, but this is still the best option out there…for me anyway.

I think you’d have to concede that it is an MMO by definition. But I thoroughly agree that AS an MMO, the way the game has been handled since release does not live up to the precedent set by other games (an hence many people’s expectations) – which was also Goose’s point, as far as I can tell.

Sure, I agree. This game has veered off from other MMOs in how it does things, but that’s what Anet always claimed they wanted to do. Reinvigorate the MMO space. It gives those of us who don’t like what you find in standard MMOs a place for us. That’s why it’ll remain successful.
There are enough people out there who don’t enjoy traditional MMOs that have found a home here. It’s not the millions of people that play WoW, but it’s certainly enough to keep the game moving forward. And as it moves on it will pick up more people that like this more than traditional MMOs.
For those who prefer traditional MMOs, they’re all still out there. There are far more of them than there are of Guild Wars 2.

It simply depends on what you are looking for in an MMO. Personally, I have always enjoyed a good mix of world exploration and instanced content. I love doing dungeons and raids (in other MMOs I’ve played), especially the more complex ones, but I hate doing them again and again and again just to farm the shinies. I love creating new characters and exploring the game world from their point of view, but I hate that in most MMOs you are pretty much forced to follow where the quest lines take you, with not a lot of alternatives to keep things different or change the pace.
This is where GW2 shines for me. If I feel like dungeon running, I have a multitude of options, from pugging easy paths via lfg, to doing stuff like Arah or highlevel fractals with friends. If I don’t feel like dungeon running, I can choose one of my multitude of alternate characters and go out to explore the world, without the constraints of questlines and leveling paths dictating the area I can explore at the time. And to me, this gives as much replayability as dungeons (and a lot more than world boss farming … I hate world bosses ).
Just because you do not enjoy a large part of the replayable content this game offers, and probably prefer to measure the “worth” of your time spend in the amount of shinies aquired rather than enjoyment of the content you do, does not mean GW2 is less of an MMO than other games. A lot of us enjoy it exactly because to us the worth of an MMO is in the fun of the content we play rather than the shinies we aquire through it, and GW2 is the perfect MMO to keep me busy this way (and already has done so for roughly 5k hours over the last 2+ years).
The lack of progression is killing this game.
I am not talking about increase level cap or gear grinds crap.
I am talking about the idea of horizontal progression.
In three years , the only progression we get are 3 useless traits per class, and some boring agony resistance. Can’t you guys be more creative? I really hope EQN can do better on the so called horizontal progression

“Says it in the title.”
Indeed!
My turn now:
So, thank you to Arenanet 2.0 for the 180 turn on almost everything, the rachitic post-lauch development and for turning Gw2 into a barbie game.
Alslo, thanks for your idleness with pvp. You guys forced me to look elsewhere for a decent maintained pvp game and yep, i found “the” little Gem (still in beta) and sent them the money i was saving for your next expansion.. meh
But don’t worry, for all my kitten and barbie needs (around 0.00$ /year) , gw2 is still the one
GG!

We don’t really have any real data of veterans leaving. I don’t consider myself a veteran because I am not skilled enough yet, but I have played Guild wars for 1 year + now, and I don’t feel bored at all. It is the only MMO that continue to make me feel like playing. I feel that many who complains about the lack of content, feel bored and leave, are those who are burn out with farming the same thing over and over again because it gives the best Gold/hr. A lot of them aren’t really enjoying the content.
I played many MMO since young. Compare GW2 with other MMO, this game is the best. – No cash shop nonsense. I can play competitively without a single cent spent for premium consumables/upgrades. A cash user doesn’t necessarily means he/she can contribute to a dungeon run.
- No grind. I don’t have to see or measure how much time will I get to lvl XX. If I feel like dungeon I go dungeon. If I feel like fractal I go fractals. I don’t need to worry about my % to next level and which map is the best EXP/HR.
- No more standing in 1 spot and press 284638959411111 with 12×10 skill bars. Honestly, it requires no effort. I know people will argue this with champ trains/WvW/World bosses. But try standing in one spot spamming skills in dungeons and fractals. Other than the occasion stacking, most content require actual skills and coordination with party members (e.g Thaumanova Fractals, Dregde Fractals…etc)
Of course, harsh critique and feedback to the developers may help improve the current state of the game but there just so many negativity thrown at the game.
I quit MMO for 5 years. Mainly because of the above reasons. GW2 changed my mind about MMO. Compare to any past trending MMO, (WoW, Rift, Archage, Perfect World…etc) this game offers the best entertainment value.
I like what this person posted sum it up nicely.
It’s easy to pick holes in any game, but this is still the best option out there…for me anyway.
Just my 2 cent.
Since nobody else has done this let me point out the obvious…op said he hasn’t played in a year well of course it seems like there is a lot for you to do. Had you been here since early beta you’d understand what many people have been saying regarding content.
So let me get this straight OP.
You have been away for a year to now return hence you think the games all fantastic and gravy content wise while your busy playing catch up.
Then you have the nerve to state that anyone who has been complaining about the lack of content, mostly players who are actually up-to-date and have valid opinion on the topic, are wrong because because they have played for 2 years, one of which you were busy playing another game, hence they have finished the game so they have had their monies worth and that equates to total nullification of critique in regards to lack of content…
Seriously?
We don’t really have any real data of veterans leaving. I don’t consider myself a veteran because I am not skilled enough yet, but I have played Guild wars for 1 year + now, and I don’t feel bored at all.
My comment was said in representation of people who have been playing this game pretty much since the beta’s and if not then around launch time.
Of course, harsh critique and feedback to the developers may help improve the current state of the game but there just so many negativity thrown at the game.
Or they can stonewall it like they usually do. And no matter how realistic the feedback, negative/neutral feedback is stonewalled, as are any suggestions that aren’t vetted by Anet. The only thing that will warrant improvement of the state of the game is more people leaving, less gem store sales and a sudden urge to wake up out of this fog the Anet people have around their heads. Until then it’s LS and gemstore as usual.
