Thank you Arena Net for putting the bell in the game.

Now I have to play with my game sounds off because you’ve given jerks, trolls and other immature players another noise maker that can spammed over and over to annoy other players. It’s been going on for a long time and I’ve done my best to ignore it, but when people use hot key programs to spam the bell faster than a 1 click per second basis, it’s more than annoying, it’s abuse.

Either take that bell out of the game or put a cool down on it. Or maybe think about things like this before putting them in the game at all.

GG.

Player instrument volume has a slider in sound options. Try that.

There are other players who use their instruments in a mature manner. They shouldn’t be turned down because 1 player decides to act like a jerk.

Your original post says they shouldn’t have put the bell in the game because of multiple players who are using them improperly. But now you say that you don’t want to turn the player instruments down because most players use their instruments in a mature manner?

If it’s just one player..Why dont you simply move away from that particular player ?

If you took the time it took you to type the post to explore the Sound Options in game we both would have nothing to post about.

Because that particular player follows people around spamming that bell and people who play the game as intended shouldn’t have to make way for a troll.

And I’m not going to turn down a master volume and push out other people who play the lute or harp as the dev’s intented. People need to stop giving trolls and other rude players the right of way in this game.

If he’s following you around and spamming his bell, you can report him for trolling/harrassment.

That’s great and all, but as a bell user that likes to play actual music (instead of spamming (8) repeatedly), if there are any players actually playing music, they will stand beside them to drown them out.

It’s happened to me on multiple occasions and I’ve actually seen an amazing harp player in Divinity’s Reach be forced to stop because of it as well.

As a solution (maybe not the greatest), would it be possible to mute the instrument sounds of blocked players?

I did, but the fact remains is that Anet needs to think about this kind of thing before putting it into the game. A simple question of – “Can this be used by immature players to annoy the ever living kitten out of everyone around them until they’re banned?” And if the is yes, then don’t put it in the game.

Not so sure about that.

I don’t care for any of the music being played on in game instruments. It interferes with my enjoyment of the actual soundtrack, sound effects, etc of the game.

Should people who are playing the instruments, some with great skill, have them taken away because their efforts annoy me ?

Not where I said “Immature players.” Meaning trolls that walk around following people creating garbled noise because they thinks it’s funny to be disruptive. If the instrument is being used to create music aka used as intended by the devs, then no.

An invention or feature should not be blamed for its’ potential for misuse. Car crashes are one of, if not THE leading cause of death, especially when you combine them with alcohol. Should we get rid of all cars and/or all alcohol then?

There will always be players who like to troll. Always. Removing an item that has provided a source of fun for a significant chunk of people is not the way to deal with it, removing or educating the trolling player is.

I do think they could handle something like this better; a rightclick option to “Mute [Player]’s instruments” would work wonders in situations like this, as players could make a personal decision to mute someone. But knee-jerking and making the item people have paid gems (and potentially real money) for worse is a bad idea, and the thought of removing it entirely is much worse.

Again, not sure that I can agree completely.

I would want those actively harassing others to receive their just punishment. Perma-ban sounds just about right for those who actively seek to harass or abuse others in game. But, playing your instrument, “to create music aka used as intended by the devs,” may very well be every bit as annoying to me as the tone deaf guy pressing one key on his bell repeatedly is to you.

Then again, I can choose to not listen to your music, much as you can choose to not listen to the tone deaf guy with a bell and a penchant for the number 3 key. And when he moves on, or you do, you can opt to un-mute player music volume.
