Just really looking to hear what people think of it a bit further down the road. Has anyone noticed a significant improvement in drops or are people still thinking they are actually worse?

Still not had an Exotic from bonus chest since I was under 50% magic find. Now I’m 164% MF and I see no bonus from it really.

What are your thoughts on this please? Good stories and bad welcome!

“Let’s tell them that improving magic find will actually give them better drops”!…………..that was the moment the Anet meeting exploded into laughter.

First off, magic find doesn’t effect chests, except in the Silverwastes. It’s primarily drops from killed mobs. If something has a chance of 0.01% then 100% magic find only increases it to 0.02%. This isn’t something that people will easily notice.

I’m at 160 (something)% and I’ve noticed more frequent rares drop from mobs, but not strikingly so.

Well, the other day I did map completion in Straits of Devastation on my guardian with 110% mf. By the time I got 100% map, I had three rares and a couple bags full of blues and greens. Moved on to Malchor’s Leap, but popped mf boosters, mf food, and banners for a total of 210% mf. When I got to 100% map, I had 7 rares, one exotic, and a bag full of blues and greens. On both maps, all I was doing was vistas, POIs, and skill points and only killing what was between me and my objectives. No champs or events or anything like that.

So there was definitely a noticeable increase in rare or better drops; whether that was because of the increase in magic find or simply a good run of RNG luck could be debated, as it’s merely my own anecdotal experience.

You need to be killing mobs to get the magic find. Many people, even myself) run past mobs on the way to do whatever they plan to do. They kills for events but not much outside that. How often do you see people killing every single Moa, skelk, bear, hyena, etc.. that they encounter? If I’m running from node to node or event to event then I don’t kill stuff in my way since I’ve learned most only drop junk or at best a green. But passing up all the mobs means magic find isn’t kicking in.

easiest thing I’ve noticed is I find t5-6 mats more often. exotics I still rarely ever find. Maybe 1-2 a month?

Well personally I just don’t know. Sometimes I feel luckier than others. I do spend time mapping and I kill every mob I come across. I still find I get a LOT of junk. In SW I feel I do better. I have currently been running with about 450% MF (with boosters, etc), and I just don’t think I see that much of a difference, especially in “regular” maps. I can’t even remember the last time I got an exotic drop outside of SW. And it’s not like I just farm these places for long periods, so no DR should be kicking in. I’ve been completing maps on my 80 ranger. She gets garbage 99% of the time.

I guess, maybe, I dunno. I’m around 150% now and I’d say I do seem to get a pretty good number of rares/exotics, but a lot of those might come from bags, which mostly aren’t affected by MF.

There was a thread awhile back where someone was saying they used to get 2 exotics a week and now hardly ever got one. It happened that I got an exotic shortly after I read that thread and I decided to keep a record for awhile.

02/04 Mecha Anchor: SB: chest
02/09 torch: Silverwastes: container
02/15 Phoenix Reborn & Koss’ Legplates: Silverwastes: containers
02/16 dagger: Tequatl: container.
02/22 cleric’s adventure spectacles: dry top: container
02/24 Rockweed Spire & trident: Silverwastes: containers

So this is all the exotics I’ve gotten from 2/4 to 3/8 (not counting from the daily or PvP). As you can see none are drops and almost all are high level maps. In all the time I’ve played the number of exotics from a drop can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
