I just don’t see it… They have big ears, but they flop down on the sides of their heads. The only rodent I’ve found that has 3 toes is the kangaroo rat, but Asura don’t hop around. Their anatomy looks more related to humans. Rodents also have pitch black eyes but the Asura have visible pupils with irises that vary in different colors. The shape of their heads don’t look rodent like either… They’re more round and spherical instead or long. I actually can’t help but get offended when people refer to them as rodents since I often play the Asura, and see it as a racial slur for them… If you have proof or any evidence that the Asura are rodents please share, but as of now I am just unable to see them as such.

Horribly i guess. Humans are mice, Asura are rats, Sylvari are salads, Norn are…norn? and Charr are fur balls.

Honestly, as a charr I’ve never actually lowered myself to about mouse level to check the comparisons. Hard to tell from way up here.

I come from Stoke-on-Trent, which was once the world centre of pottery manufacture thanks to the rich clay soil in this area. Do I get offended by being called a ‘clayhead’? Nope.

In actual fact, I applaud Anet for including some (very light) cultural racism in the game. It exists in far more serious measure in the real world, and if fantasy casual racism offends people here, then it is doing its job right. Better in fantasy than in reality.

Of course the Bookah sometimes refer to us Asura as rodent. Their inferior Eyes and brains just cant tell the difference between Skrit and our Natural beauty. For us it is much easier; Bookah are not unique at all. They are just overgrown Salads, Kittens, and hairless Apes(one being larger, stinkier, and dumber.) It hard for them to understand we are special and not some larger version of another animal or fern.
So forgive the Bookah, they are doing the best they can with the large bodies and small brains they have been given.

I have never heard them called rats. I have heard salad and so on used for the other races but the worst I have heard for asura are tiny and short. I can not name a single NPC that has even commented on their MASSIVE ego.

Bookah was mentioned. That is an imaginary creature invented by the asura as an antagonist. Of COURSE they would use racial slurs if real.

I think they more resemble a monkey. If human evolved from apes, then perhaps Asuras evolved from a chimp or a howler monkey. Less evolved physically, and more mentally perhaps, but hey chimps are smarter than apes. Compare the anatomy and I find a correlation, but hey I like rat too.

In my opinion the asura look like Gremlins (like the 80’s movies), Yoda.

Asura aren’t rodents of any kind. Nor, for that matter, are they earth creatures, since this isn’t earth. We don’t have skelk, skale, dolyaks, grawl, griffons, trolls, ogres, charr, so many species that don’t connect to earth creatures. Why should Asura be unique in that regard.

Asura are Asura, that’s all. But they’re not rodents, they have full mouths of sharp teeth. Rodents have chisel teeth in front, then nothing to the sides, and possibly molars in back.

Of course Asura are mice and Sylvari are talking cabbages. Haven’t you ever idled at the camp in the Silverwastes? :P

The charr call humans mice, so maybe that has something to do with it. To me though, Asura are creepy little gremlin.

Asura are closer to ogres and marmoxes than rats or humans.

I figure Asura are a genetically engineered race. Perhaps they retain some features of distant ancestors, but have become unique due to selective breeding or genetic tampering. The closest reasoning I can figure to them being a designed or constructed race is Stitch/Species 626 from Disney’s Lilo and Stitch. They do look a lot a like.

Um, I think you’ll find Asura are Asura and everyone else is Bookah And other people only think they’re weird and creepy because they’re Bookahs and dumb.

And they’ll die and leave a dumb corpse.

They look like tiny cats for me, never saw someone call them rats or rodents. I think is rude.

That’d be a huge step backwards. Rata Sum has a nice, logical layout with crafting stations radiating around the bank and TP. The Black Citadel is a confusing mess of a ground plan. Kinda odd given their Roman inspiration and how methodically Roman military camps were laid out.

Slurs don’t have to have 100% basis in ‘facts’ — if they did, they probably wouldn’t be slurs.

When I refer to asurans as rats it has nothing to do with their appearance.

For a while I played a charr that had only recently met asura and found them disturbing to be around. He said they looked like a deformed human doll that had ripped the teeth out of a charr and stuck them into its own mouth.

I think that’s an accurate way to describe them.
