Yeah after falling off of that one like 5 times in one night I let it go till the next day. Got it my first try then. I find myself doing that often with jp’s, especially if I run into them after playing for many hours or if it’s late at night…just come back later with a fresh set of eyes and fingers and you can probably do it.

I, too, am an older player that played Pong when it first came out, with failing eyesight and arthritis. Jumping puzzles are hard. Vistas and SPs are optional, but not being able to complete them because they are combined with JPs makes it impossible to do map completion. This isn’t exploration, its not even a puzzle. Its being able to physically complete one of the largest achievements in the game. Its not even about legendaries — there are other obstacles — big ones – associated with legendaries.

Taking away the possibility of map completion for those of us that might have physical or computer limitations takes away one of the points of the game. And, quite frankly, I spend quite a bit of cash on gems. Because, y’know, older, stable job, etc. So they don’t want me to go find a different game. I’m liable to stick around for years given achievements I can achieve.

The Breached Wall is ridiculous and there might be other things that are harder but I can largely ignore JPs when they aren’t tied into map completion. Please, devs, move the vista and SP closer to the beginning.

If you think the Breached wall was bad. Wait till you get to the Vizer tower.

Also, you are not required to get a skill point or vista. They are rewards for you if you did it. If you did not enjoy the difficulty of the challenge, you don’t have to get either of these.

I hope you are joking. Vizer tower was ridiculously easy. The jump puzzles in this game are pretty simple. Only tough one was the Clock Tower.

Oh man. OH MAN. I couldn’t even figure out what the heck were you supposed to do on that tower until I watched a guide and found out you where supposed to jump unto that random branch of a tree which is about 2 mm wide. Then I made the mistake of opening the box that summoned the undead Vizier out before getting the Vista and skill point and had to switch servers and do it all over.

But come to think of it, its stuff like that which made games memorable for me, stuff that was hardcore but perfectly doable (ie, not stuff like those Temple escorts where the Pact troops die in 5 seconds from AoEs you can’t prevent and the NPCs are too stupid to dodge them).

and @ OP they’re supposed to be a challenge. If everything was handed to everyone on a silver platter, then you wouldn’t get a sense of accomplishment fro doing map comp. Also, try doing it with swift active, it makes JPs a lot easier.

Honestly, if you’ve gone to max level and played at least 400 hours, I don’t see how you think you didn’t get your money’s worth.

Well, I’ll go play a RT strategy game…love those, all thinking, no jumping….and try this again if I upgrade my system, it may be my computer is getting old too.

Actually the Breach wall is all about thinking… A ton of the jumps are intentionally misleading. If people having the OP’s problem had watched enough videos on it they’d see where there’s a bunch of components to it where you were could jump off to the side first or go back around behind instead of just trying to nail a series of really Long or precise jumps.

If it took you an entire hour or more then maybe you’re over-estimating your own improvisational cognitive aptitude? (one of which possible processes would yes, be you-tubing it. That’s not always cheating). ….The other thing, not to be a Spoiler here, but even if you HAD nailed that last jump, you wouldn’t have completed the zone. …NOT WITHOUT this other tower over here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JsSl_waYpQ which is several times more frustrating b/c it’s pure control mashing + some really precise leaps with no way to out-think it. (that last jump was probably the worst jump in the entire game for my Norn who’s now completed 90% of all JP’s)

From another aging player…

“I feel your pain”

Yes, there are times when the mind knows exactly what to do but the hands won’t cooperate. Lots of good advice in the posts above so I won’t repeat any of it. The issue at hand may be this particular piece but it really applies more broadly to the entire game, at least for me. At the end of the day, there are some of the things that I can do easily…some things I can do with considerable effort…and some things that are, frankly, probably beyond my ability given my innate skills and time/energy available. That said…two key points.

First, when I approach these types of things, I can usually get a sense pretty quickly whether they are within my ability or not. If, as I screw it up once or twice, I can see my problem…or if I go check out others’ approaches on Youtube and I learn “the trick”…then I persevere. If, however, it becomes clear that I understand what needs to be done but just cannot do it (i.e., jumping puzzle in the lab in Caledon Forest), I shrug and move on.

Second point…the beauty of GW2 for someone like me is that there is very little in terms of content that is “must do.” In seven years of WoW, I learned that it is very sequential. If you do A, B, and C…but cannot do D, then you will not be able to do E, F, G… In GW2, there is very little that you must do in order to do other things. I have been playing since beta…have six level 80s and am having a grand time. I do a variety of things and I am not usually afraid to give new things a shot.. At the same time, I am not the least bit afraid to shrug and move on if it does not work out.

Not sure if this will help or not…but at least you know you are not alone with this issue.

My input. I am 58 years old and every now and then my arthritis kicks in making jump puzzles difficult to do. I suppose 25 years as a heavy duty mechanic had something to do with that! However I have recently completed all the jump puzzles in the game many on my main a human Guardian and the rest with my Sylvari mesmer. The wife at 56 has difficulty with jump puzzles period even though she does not suffer the arthritis issues I do so I have assisted her with hers. My older sister cannot do most so has her son run them for her. So how to do them?

1) Try them but never to the point where you get frustrated. When that frustration kicks in you begin tensing up and missing the jumps so just back away and come back later or the next day.

2) Some races are easier to do some jump puzzles with but not all so try a different sized toon on different jp’s.

3) Do take the advice of people here and watch some of the videos available. Some do show the easiest routes to take.

4) Trait your falling damage mitigation.

5) Be careful where you use speed buffs. If you are using a signet that keeps your buff active remove it. Some jumps are easier with a speed buff, some are more difficult.

6) Use a mesmer if you have one. Set a portal before those difficult jumps so if you miss you can recall back to where you jumped from, wait until your portal recycles and try again. In the Aetherblade “Not So Secret” JP I used this and it saved me. (although the only diving goggles I have left are the ones in there and I stepped away from it until a later date)

7) Again as other people mentioned the last resort for one that you just cannot complete is to have a mesmer port you through to the end. Most but not all are possible to port directly to the end but some will entail the mesmer setting multiple ports.

Hope that helps!

The Breached Wall took me the longest time to figure out but now I can run it almost without stopping. It took a LOT of tries, frustration and falling to get there, though.

The hardest points for me were making the jump from to the beam that stuck out (near the beginning) because if you took your time, you had ghosts popping up behind you and when you got to the other side two more popped up. For some reason in the beginning I kept misjudging that leap but now can do it with every avatar. It is where you line up to make the jump (swiftness can help but isn’t necessary once you know where to stand).

The others were the narrow ledges you had to jump then turn around. Also probably one of the hardest for me were the two arches. I did find you have to get down to where you see sort of a line where the first arch bends down (almost looks like you will fall or slide) and jump from there. If you jump much higher than that you always miss, though, thankfully, there is a ledge underneath which is a blessing because all you have to do is jump a gap and hop back up and try again.

The last jump from the chest, all I can say is I jump from the upper ledge not the lower one. I always missed from the lower one but got it from the upper.

This is one jumping puzzle that you will eventually get better with every attempt as you learn to overcome the places in it that are giving you difficulty. I hated it at first but now I actually enjoy doing this one.

The Necrothreader strikes again! Muahahaha!

I love this jp. When I first started playing the game I think every time I tried it I was either a little drunk or stupidly tired. Or both. Now I can blitz through it without thinking. I don’t recommend that training regimen but its really just practice.

I don’t want to belittle the guys with hand issues though (or anyone else!), that can be rough. I’ve seen it in my family.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

It took me 30-40 tries to get ONE jump right on this **** Breach Wall… It was horrific, especially since it’s more difficult to aim jump with a Charr than it is with a human, for example.

Personally, I don’t like Jumping Puzzles either. To me, they feel a bit out of place and, for an open world, they’re a bit too obviously crafted into the world.

However, I simply choose not to do most jumping puzzles. To me, using a Mesmer portal would ruin it. That crystallizes the idea that I am doing it for the rewards, not for the activity itself. And if I’m doing something for the rewards rather than the activity itself, then I need to reconsider what the hell I am doing.

It only took me two tries to do that one. I knowingly made a questionable jump because I thought I had some ground to fall on that would let me get back on the puzzle where I was, and I missed the edge of that ground after falling off the jump.

Second try, took the other thing that looked like a doable jump and that was the one that led to the end of the puzzle.

That said, vistas/PoIs/skill points should never be placed at the end of jumping puzzles. At the beginning, to mark where the puzzle is or so the vista can give you an overview of it, absolutely. Not at the end.

Lastly, I will offer some advice to those who struggle with jumping puzzles. I know this is a necro but I imagine the OP isn’t nearly the only person that this happens to.

First, stop the moment you get frustrated. Once you’re frustrated you’re no longer playing at the highest level you’re able to, and your inability to complete the parts you were completing before will frustrate you even more.

Look up the solution on youtube or the wiki. The wiki for many of the puzzles has a text guide, as well as a picture guide, as well as a link to search youtube for video guides. Of those I find the picture guides most useful, as I know how to make the jumps once I’m able to find them.

Third, bring a friend or party along. Everything is more fun with fun people around, and you won’t get as frustrated trying to figure out the puzzle in a group.

Finally, and I think this one will be unpopular, just give up the idea of map completion. It is even worth it if it’s not fun? You’re in game to have fun, and if you’re not having fun, you probably shouldn’t do it at all. If the reward is fun but the activity isn’t, same thing. Find an activity that’s both fun AND rewarding instead.
